NOVELLA. New Edition. Maggie Harrison always dreamed of owning her own place and now those twelve acres of rich Texas soil located just outside the picture-perfect town of Bradbury were hers. Along with her husband Travis, and daughter Maisy, Maggie begins to realise her dream of self-sufficiency, putting the land immediately to work, growing enough to eat and selling the excess at farmers' markets. Under the watchful eye of Silas Crutch, a farmer whose land shares a boundary with Harrison's Patch, Maggie learns the secrets to successful pumpkin growing, and as their first harvest approaches, the Harrison's must take on extra help. But when a professor from the local university uncovers evidence of a horrific crime - a crime he believes was perpetrated on their land during the Civil War - the Harrison's disregard his pleas and ignore his warnings of a terrible curse. As Halloween approaches; as the pumpkins ripen, and a large oak tree in the centre of the patch begins to spread its boughs, the professor becomes more convinced the curse is about to be unleashed. Will the residents of Bradbury be forced to atone for the sins of their ancestors? Is there any truth to a condemned man's curse? And why are the pumpkins out at Harrison's Patch - their seeds and their flesh - turning blood red?

How do Christians keep from losing their faith when they discover that other faiths are as justified as their own? Mark McLeod-Harrison draws on his training in analytic philosophy and his knowledge of Christian mysticism to provide a compelling analysis of, and unique solution to, the problem religious diversity poses for Christians. In Repairing Eden, McLeod-Harrison describes this dilemma as an existential problem internal to the Christian faith. He suggests that Christian humility and Christian mysticism can provide a joint path toward a kind of metaphysical certainty - the mystic path, the path of bearing one's own cross - that can become a means of more deeply knowing God. Repairing Eden weaves theology, philosophy, and pastoral concerns into a spiritual-philosophical solution to a deeply important challenge to Christian faith.

What happens when the wrench of evolution is dropped into the hopper of Christian theology? Written by a philosopher, Saving the Neanderthals takes evolution as its foil and shows what might have to change in Christian theology in order to make theology compatible with evolution. If the Christian faith is shown consistent with what Mark S. McLeod-Harrison calls “hard evolution,” then the softer versions will also be compatible. Indeed, that is exactly what the book argues, specifically for the Christian doctrines of sin and salvation. These doctrines typically rely on some fairly strong realist version of essentialism, which hard evolution denies; but McLeod-Harrison proposes an approach to sin and salvation that is compatible with the anti-essentialist claims of hard evolution.

Throughout the 20th century, planning and planners were central to our understanding of cities and regions. Today, however, planning is facing powerful challenges – professionally, intellectually, practically – in ways arguably not seen before. Recent developments and trends are raising fundamental questions about how we plan regions. Planning is no longer solely the domain of professional planners but has been opened up to a diverse group of actors, each with their own interests. The study of cities and regions was traditionally taught in planning schools and geography departments, but this link with place and space disciplines is being steadily eroded as research increasingly takes place in and through interdisciplinary research institutes. Against this backdrop, Regions in Evolution provides the first comprehensive account of a hitherto untold history of regions and planning. Told through the unique lens of regional studies, the authors bring to light the role of key individuals, groups and disciplines in shaping research agendas and debate. It reveals voices which were marginalised, planning ideas which were lost, approaches that keep coming back, and challenges that persist. Believing passionately in the values and purpose of regional planning, while sceptical of the one-size-fits-all institutional form that Regional Planning often adopts, the authors develop an argument for planning regional futures based on a multitude of approaches, methods and strategies that might still require someone to make sense of it all.

This book brings together ideas about narrative from a variety of contexts across the social sciences and synthesizes understandings of the field. Rather than focusing on theory, it examines how narrative research is conducted and applied. It operates as a practical introductory guide, basic enough for first-time researchers, but also as a window onto the more complex questions and difficulties that all researchers in this area face. The authors guide readers through current debates about how to obtain and analyse narrative data, about the nature of narrative, the place of the researcher, the limits of researcher interpretations, and the significance of narrative work in applied and in broader political contexts. This new edition includes updated references and a greater focus on digitality throughout. It addresses social justice and decoloniality more explicitly, centrally and consistently, drawing on examples around Black Lives Matter, #MeToo, climate change and Extinction Rebellion, and Covid and pandemic narratives.
