Revisit the "mean streets" of MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN with this tale about two cousins, both of whom grew up back in the day on those very same mean streets of South Brooklyn, who team up against a powerful bully who will stop at nothing to defeat a foe. One cousin is Al Forte, a highly competent and fair-minded attorney. The other is Mick Forte, a "semi-reformed" Mafioso. Cousin Al is not so sure about the extent of cousin Mick's reformation. The bully is Gordon Gilbert, the brilliant, former head of the powerhouse law firm he built, who is now a Deputy Mayor and remains as power-hungry and ruthless as ever.Al is retained by a desperate Mary Woodley to sue Gilbert whom she says impregnated her and fathered a child he refuses to acknowledge and support.Despite having little litigation and no family law experience, Al readies himself to sue Gilbert for child support. Mick warns Al that the real battle will be not in the courtroom, but on the streets, Mick's turf, as Gilbert and his goons will surely resort to "dirty tricks" to thwart Al's efforts.Al initially rejects Mick's offer to help, fearing such a loose cannon will undermine his legal battle against Gilbert. Al reconsiders after he finds himself in jail, where he awakens to the nature of the adversary he is up against. Will Al, even assisted by Mick and his considerable street smarts, be a match for devious Gilbert and his superior resources? Will justice for Mary be achieved in the courtroom or on the streets--if at all?

Follow the adventures of Andee (Andrea/angee) as she discovers boys, and then marries young to a computer nerd, breaking out of that to head into other dysfunctional yet joyful relationships, fueled by drugs, mostly marijuana. After divorce, she couples up with, among others, an artist whose alcohol addiction comes first, a flirtatious Russian major living with his parents, and a bass player who shares a nickname with his dog. Eventually, Andee decides to leave the Midwest for southwestern pastures, seeking...new vistas...new men? Through it all, her love for The Rolling Stones a constant, Andee talks about how their front man, Mick Jagger, relates to these pairings over time. Never meeting, just encountering Mick as part of the up-close audience, at publicity events and in media coverage, in her imagination, he represents her wilder, unconventional side and spurs it on.

Alamo Hero: The Life and Times of Micajah Autry: Volume 1: Mick and Marie

Volume I of a trilogy, this historical/magical realism novel is a meditation upon the life and times of Micajah Autry, the author's ancestor who died at the Alamo. Starting with the narrative's frame set in winter 1915, the novel flashes back to the hero's youth when he served with General Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans. The exciting action includes encounters with Marie Laveau, voodoo queen of New Orleans who becomes Micajah Autry's soulmate and major love interest, a duel with the pirate Jean Lafitte, the painful separation of the lovers, Marie's imprisonment by Pierre Lafitte, her meeting with the depressed and dying Napoleon Bonaparte. The frame of the novel concerns the journey from Beaumont, TX, to San Antonio made by the dying daughter of Micajah Autry in 1915 when she wishes to perform one final ceremony at the Alamo for her heroic father. Along the way she and her care-taker nephew encounter a cast of con artists including claimants to the legend of Jesse James, aspirants to sports stardom, and a man of the cloth. This work is as much homage to writers such as Mark Twain, William Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, and W.P. Kinsella as to the heroes of the Texas Revolution as it weaves the satiric, poetic, minimalist and magical realism of these writers into a story which moves in time from the War of 1812 to the New Orleans of our day. The myths and legends clash with the facts as the truth evades us like so many fireflies on a spring evening. This volume contains a prologue and chapters 1-16. Volume II called "The Hero's Return," contains chapters 17-34. Volume III called "Thirteen Days," contains chapters 35-49 and an epilogue. These last two volumes will come out shortly after Volume I.
