This book investigates gender issues in Nadine Gordimer's selected novels. The way she manipulates them allows me to assume that for her, gender is inclusive, interdependent, collaborative, partnership-based, and it seeks the welfare of men and women. My work gets deeper in the connection between literature and social phenomena in ways that may escape the common reader's attention. I am indeed dealing with gender through works rather known for their exposure of apartheid. Gender refers to the sociocultural definitions of the concepts man or woman. This book is trying to deconstruct gender discourse in Gordimer's novels in order to show that a number of critics have judged her novels in different ways. That Gordimer has deconstructed gender in her novels is one thing, but this book aims at analysing how female and male characters in her novels selected for this study live gender relations, and check whether these relations contribute to women's empowerment. In short, my concern is to see how male and female characters experience gender and see how her novels may, eventually, frame gender evolution.

Meine Arbeit vertieft die Verbindung zwischen Literatur und sozialen Ph nomenen auf eine Weise, die dem gew hnlichen Leser vielleicht entgeht. Ich besch ftige mich in der Tat mit dem Thema Gender in Werken, die eher f r ihre Auseinandersetzung mit der Apartheid bekannt sind. Gender bezieht sich auf die soziokulturellen Definitionen der Begriffe Mann und Frau. In diesem Buch wird versucht, den Gender-Diskurs in Gordimers Romanen zu dekonstruieren, um zu zeigen, dass eine Reihe von Kritikern ihre Romane auf unterschiedliche Weise beurteilt haben. Dass Gordimer das Geschlecht in ihren Romanen dekonstruiert hat, ist eine Sache, aber dieses Buch zielt darauf ab, zu analysieren, wie weibliche und m nnliche Charaktere in ihren f r diese Studie ausgew hlten Romanen die Geschlechterbeziehungen leben, und zu pr fen, ob diese Beziehungen zur St rkung der Frauen beitragen. Kurz gesagt, mein Anliegen ist es, zu sehen, wie m nnliche und weibliche Charaktere das Geschlecht erleben und wie ihre Romane letztendlich die Entwicklung der Geschlechterverh ltnisse gestalten k nnen.

Que Gordimer ait d construit le genre dans ses romans est une chose, mais ce livre vise analyser comment les personnages f minins et masculins de ses romans s lectionn s pour cette tude vivent les relations de genre, et v rifier si ces relations contribuent l'autonomisation des femmes. En bref, mon souci est de voir comment les personnages masculins et f minins font l'exp rience du genre et comment ses romans peuvent, en fin de compte, encadrer l' volution du genre.
