Asking Questions serves as a practical, introductory guide to questionnaire design. This classic book, first published more than 35 years ago, has been an essential tool for students and professionals on how to ask the right questions. The overall format and structure of the third edition will follow previous editions; however, significant updates and improvements will made throughout, making this the new edition up-to-date on the latest survey trends and more classroom friendly. Included are new chapters on 1) web surveys and multimode surveys and 2) polls and polling. There will also be new or expanded coverage on important survey design issues, such as integrating mode choice and sequencing of modes, cognitive models of response including satisficing, additional examples of questionnaires for different situations and contexts, new guidance on effective testing of survey items and how to ask demographic questions, and dis greater discussion and detail on using basic scalar questions. All illustrative examples, including most figures, will be updated. Student-friendly pedagogy, such as learning objectives, summary, key terms, and review questions, and web-based resources, such lecture slides and a test bank, will all be new to the third edition.
This book offers an innovative, trans-diagnostic approach to enhancing self-control in adolescents based directly on personality and social psychological science. It thus fills a void. While several books address specific disorders such as ADHD, poor school performance, and aggression, this is one of the first books to translate social and personality psychology research into a set of generally applicable treatment strategies. This literature as a whole is not well known to cognitive behavioral therapists or other applied mental health professionals and will be a valuable addition to their clinical knowledge base. Because the interventions described in the book target the underlying processes common to self-control (rather than to specific diagnostic entities), clinicians do not have to master a treatment manual for each individual disorder. Instead, they are provided with treatment tools that they can modify and use flexibly with the large number of adolescent referred because of problems with self-control, who typically present with a range of symptoms and co-morbid disorders.

Jean Crystal is held captive on a laboratory table by a motion sensitive laser directed toward her central nervous system. Unaware of her invisible prison, upon awakening from a narcotic sleep induced by Dr. Natas, she attempts to move and finds herself wracked with a mind numbing pain. By astrally projecting herself she is able to overcome the pain and investigate her circumstances. George Martinez, her husband, has already been assassinated and while awaiting her own demise, George pays Jean a visit in the lab, assuring her of their eternal vow to each other. Dr. Natas has developed a school run by robots and computers and Jean and George have discovered the use of a protein computer chip fed to the children at his school. After Jean is assassinated their spirits reunite to plan their return. They agree upon a place, a time and a signal by which they can find and identify each other in their next lifetime. They plan to meet on the first Monday of October, 2024 outside the UCLA Computer Science building. She'll find him sitting under a tree with a guitar strumming and singing "Imagine". The reunion takes place 20 years later, but not without a hitch.
