Obiorah wears his heart on his sleeveThere are poems which elude the readerThere are poems that connect and the reader baths in meaning, context and imagery that perhaps the author didn't even envisage"So far Away", the anthology, has all of the former and latter and more. The theme of loss, lost life, lost lives, regrets, sorrow and pain pervades the works - and yet, yet there is also hope, a light glimmers in the gloom.Cry the Beloved Country is not a prerogative of the Transvaal; it is strongly felt by Obiorah... regret for the path his beloved country has been dragged down. Therein there is a yearning and a desire for change, hope, hopes and triesLost, lost, trapped, futile, confused, why-why-why - An aching wish... Obiorah's poetry is cathartic - get it out, ignore the gossip-gossip, leave it behind, look to the future and grasp those embers of hope...A message for us all- Joseph M P BRADLEY. Geologist, Total Upstream Companies Nigeria Limited.

In this striking novel about an unforgettable childhood, four Nigerian brothers encounter a madman whose mystic prophecy of violence threatens the core of their close-knit family Told by nine-year-old Benjamin, the youngest of four brothers, The Fishermen is the Cain and Abel-esque story of a childhood in Nigeria, in the small town of Akure. When their father has to travel to a distant city for work, the brothers take advantage of his absence to skip school and go fishing. At the forbidden nearby river, they meet a madman who persuades the oldest of the boys that he is destined to be killed by one of his siblings. What happens next is an almost mythic event whose impact-both tragic and redemptive-will transcend the lives and imaginations of the book's characters and readers. Dazzling and viscerally powerful, The Fisherman is an essential novel about Africa, seen through the prism of one family's destiny.

A heartbreaking story about a Nigerian poultry farmer who sacrifices everything to win the woman he loves, by Man Booker Finalist and author of The Fishermen, Chigozie Obioma. It is more than a superb and tragic novel; it's a historical treasure.-Boston Globe Set on the outskirts of Umuahia, Nigeria and narrated by a chi, or guardian spirit, An Orchestra of Minorities tells the story of Chinonso, a young poultry farmer whose soul is ignited when he sees a woman attempting to jump from a highway bridge. Horrified by her recklessness, Chinonso joins her on the roadside and hurls two of his prized chickens into the water below to express the severity of such a fall. The woman, Ndali, is stopped her in her tracks. Bonded by this night on the bridge, Chinonso and Ndali fall in love. But Ndali is from a wealthy family and struggles to imagine a future near a chicken coop. When her family objects to the union because he is uneducated, Chinonso sells most of his possessions to attend a college in Cyprus. But when he arrives he discovers there is no place at the school for him, and that he has been utterly duped by the young Nigerian who has made the arrangements... Penniless, homeless, and furious at a world which continues to relegate him to the sidelines, Chinonso gets further away from his dream, from Ndali and the farm he called home. Spanning continents, traversing the earth and cosmic spaces, and told by a narrator who has lived for hundreds of years, the novel is a contemporary twist of Homer's Odyssey. Written in the mythic style of the Igbo literary tradition, Chigozie Obioma weaves a heart-wrenching epic about destiny and determination.

A sweeping, heart-racing, mystical novel about a university student in Lagos trying to save his brother, and himself, amid the chaos of Nigeria's civil war--a story of love, friendship, and personal triumph by the two-time Booker Prize finalist and "the heir to Chinua Achebe" (New York Times) "A wondrous novel."--Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, author of Chain-Gang All Stars, finalist for the National Book Award "Chigozie Obioma is that rare thing: an original. His world is a mix of the real and the folkloric, and his writing sounds like no one else's."--The Wall Street JournalLonglisted for the Dublin Literary Award, the Joyce Carol Oates Prize, and the New American Voices Award - Named a Best Book of the Year by The Boston Globe, The Economist, and Kirkus Reviews The first images of the vision are grainy--like something seen through wet glass. But slowly it clears, and there appears the figure of a man. Set in Nigeria in the late 1960s, The Road to the Country is the epic story of a shy, bookish student haunted by long-held guilt who must go to war to free himself. When his younger brother disappears as the country explodes in civil war, Kunle must set out on an impossible rescue mission. Kunle's search for his brother becomes a journey of atonement that will see him conscripted into the breakaway Biafran army and forced to fight a war he hardly understands, all while navigating the prophecies of a local Seer, he who marks Kunle as an abami eda--one who will die and return to life. The story of a young man seeking redemption in a country on fire, Chigozie Obioma's novel is an odyssey of brotherhood, love, and unimaginable courage set during one of the most devastating conflicts in the history of Africa. Intertwining myth and realism into a thrilling, inspired, and emotionally powerful novel, The Road to the Country is the masterpiece of Chigozie Obioma, a writer Salman Rushdie calls "a major voice" in literature.

Yeshua Is His Name: The Name of the Savior Is Given Only by God
The work Yeshua is His Name offers a theological exposition to the loss of the name of the "Savior" in translation down through the ages. The narrative searches the contours of recorded history, contextualized in Scriptures, shedding light on how the correspondence of the Savior's immutable name undermines the sanctity of our faith. The book challenges the age-old orthodoxies of biblical language adaptation and creates a spiritually healthy space for understanding the implication of calling Him by a name given by man and not God. What the book does not endorse is the denial of the wisdom of Christian sages. It also does not demand condemnation of the English name Jesus. However, the book presents an opportunity for dialog and a sense of re-discovery and renaissance about the immutable name of the son of God bestowed only by the Father, Adonai. Recorded history suggests the earliest lost gospel writings about the Savior (original Hebrew Papyri scrolls) hold the key to any clear understanding of what name the Savior was called by his Jewish community, and the disciples. While we may never know with absolute certainty what specific Hebrew/Aramaic name He was called, we know without a doubt that canonized scripture shows He was called Yeshua. It is the mission of this book to show the proof and the facts as they are. Variations of discovered parchment scrolls (1947-56, i.e. deuterocanonical texts, Jewish-Christian gospels) present theo-historic narratives, as does the present-day Bibles that leave significant trails, precedents, and prophetic declarations of the name given by God to His begotten son. Other writings external to scripture also show how the name was lost in translation.
