Calculus teachers recognize Calculus as the leading resource among the "reform" projects that employ the rule of four and streamline the curriculum in order to deepen conceptual understanding. The Sixth Edition uses all strands of the 'Rule of Four' - graphical, numeric, symbolic/algebraic, and verbal/applied presentations - to make concepts easier to understand. The book focuses on exploring fundamental ideas rather than comprehensive coverage of multiple similar cases that are not fundamentally unique.

The medical specialty of paediatric gastroenterology is focused on problems and disorders within the gastrointestinal tract, liver and pancreas of children from infancy until age eighteen. This inspirational compilation provides information on current research and clinical practice regarding the psychosocial aspects of paediatric gastrointestinal conditions, with contributions from international specialists and experts in the field. The chapters in Part I act as an introduction to understanding gastrointestinal disorders and consider key theoretical aspects and central issues. Part II investigates management and intervention concerns and includes patient narrative, offering unique insights for professional reflection. Part III looks at the unique characteristics of the anatomy and physiology of normal development and the maturation of the digestive system in infants. It also includes a compendium of assessment measures and a highly practical toolkit containing flow charts, clinical interview schedules, handouts and leaflets designed specifically for parents. It offers health professionals, students and trainees a muchneeded multidisciplinary perspective on the psychosocial considerations of children and young people with gastrointestinal disorders and their families. 'The series has a deliberately international focus, which reflects the paediatric psychology community and brings together material that is otherwise unavailable in this form. An inspiring and reliable resource for day-to-day paediatric practice'. From the series introduction by Angela Southall and Clarissa Martin

It was a story so bizarre it defied belief: in April 1974, twenty-year-old newspaper heiress Patricia Hearst robbed a San Francisco bank in the company of members of the Symbionese Liberation Army - who had kidnapped her a mere nine weeks earlier. But the robbery - and the spectacular 1976 trial that ended with Hearst's criminal conviction - seemed oddly appropriate to the troubled mood of the nation, an instant exemplar of a turbulent era. With "Patty's Got a Gun", the first substantial reconsideration of Hearst's story in more than twenty-five years, William Graebner vividly recreates the atmosphere of uncertainty and frustration of mid-1970s America. Drawing on copious media accounts of the robbery and trial - as well as cultural artifacts from glam rock to "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" - Graebner paints a compelling portrait of a nation confused and frightened by the upheavals of 1960s liberalism and beginning to tip over into what would become Reagan-era conservatism, with its invocations of individual responsibility and the heroic. Trapped in the middle of that shift, the affectless, zombielike, 'brainwashed' Patty Hearst was a ready-made symbol of all that seemed to have gone wrong with the sixties - the inevitable result, some said, of rampant permissiveness, feckless elitism, the loss of moral clarity, and feminism run amok.By offering a fresh look at Patty Hearst and her trial - for the first time free from the agendas of the day, yet set fully in their cultural context - "Patty's Got a Gun" delivers a nuanced portrait of both an unforgettable moment and an entire era, one whose repercussions continue to be felt today.

Patty Jane Dobbin should have known better than to marry a man as gorgeous as Thor Rolvaag, but she was too smitten to think twice. Yet nine months into their marriage, with a baby on the way, Thor is gone. It s a good thing Patty Jane has her irrepressible sister, Harriet, to rely on. For it s been said that a fine haircut can cure any number of ills, and before long the Minnesota sisters have opened a neighborhood beauty parlor complete with live harp music and an endless supply of delicious Norwegian baked goods. Patty's Toxicology Mini Set Volumes Four, Five, Six, and Seven - Organics
These volumes are arranged according to the complexity of the organic compound. In Volume 4, the chapters begin with simple organic compounds, the aliphatic hydrocarbns, proceeds to alicyclic hydrocarbons and then goes on to the aromatic hydrocarbons. Many of the contributors to Volume 4 are well recognized for their research in the area of organic compounds. Volume 5 continues the complexity of the organic compounds with chapters on halogenated hydrocarbons, aliphatic carboxylic acids, ethers and aldehydes. These chapters have been updated from previous Patty's editions. Volume 6 contains chapters on ketones, alcohols, esters, epoxy compounds and organic peroxides. Volume 7 continues the coverage of the toxicology of organic compounds including polymers, polyurethanes, glycols, organic sulfur compounds and organophosphate compounds (pesticides). All chapters are significantly revised and updated from previous Patty's editions.
Patty's Toxicology, 5th Edition, 8 Volume + Index Set, 5th Edition
PATTY'S has become one of Wiley's flagship publications in occupational health and safety, and the toxicology volumes give proof to the growth and development of the field of toxicology. What began as a single volume devoted to the field with the first edition (1948) of Patty's has now mushroomed into eight. This Fifth Edition will permit us to bring about many badly needed changes to the format and organization of the toxicology volumes. In addition to standardizing the format and sequence in which toxicologic data is presented for all of the compounds, the compounds will be organized according to logical groupings, e.g., the metals will be covered in 23 separate chapters making up Volumes II and III; Vol. IV will contain four chapters on aromatic hydrocarbons and 7 chapters on organic nitrogen compounds; Vol. V will contain eight chapters on organic halogenated hydrocarbons and four on aliphatic carboxylic acids; Vol. VI will feature three chapters on ketones, two on alcohols, and five on esters; and Vol. VII will include four chapters on epoxy compounds, two on gycol ethers, and eight on synthetic polymers. The reorganization of chapters in Volumes II through VI by itself will vastly facilitate information searching and retrieval. Volume VIII, like Volume I, does not cover compounds but rather other major issues in toxicology assessment or other forms of toxic agents.

Completely reorganized, this new edition encompasses eight core volumes and a cumulative index. For the vast majority of chapters that focus on individual compounds or classes of compounds, a standardized format will be adopted to provide core identifying information for each compound, such as CAS Registry numbers, RTECS number, physical and chemical properties, threshold limit values, permissible exposure limits, maximum workplace concentrations, and biological tolerance values for occupational exposures.
