Shea butter is a vegetable oil. Shea butter is a tiny yellowish or ivory-colored fat extracted from the nut of the African shea tree. It is widely used in cosmetics as a moisturizer, salve or lotion. It is edible and is used in food preparation in Africa. One problem associated with the use of neat shea butter is its relatively high viscosity (80 mm2/s at 50oC). Possible process for the reduction of viscosity is splitting off of glycerol backbone thorough transesterification. Due to toxicity, methanol is not suggested to use in transesterification of shea butter. In this study, transesterification of shea butter, a highly viscous vegetable oil was carried out to reduce its viscosity, allowing its convective transport at room temperature. The study was aided by describing the kinetic behavior of the transesterification process of the shea butter, in order to facilitate the handling of bioester produced, according to its characteristics of low viscosity to be used in cosmetics application. This laboratory scale study was antecedent to possible industrialization of the bioester production technology.

Agroforstsysteme sind kosysteme, die mit einer nachhaltigen Landwirtschaft vereinbar sind, da sie nur geringe Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt haben und wichtige Dienstleistungen f r l ndliche Gemeinschaften erbringen. Die vorliegende Studie wurde von Juli bis September 2015 in der Gemeinde Sav (Departement Collines) in Zentralbenin durchgef hrt. Ziel der Studie war es, die Vielfalt und Bedeutung der kosystemleistungen von Shea-Parks zu bewerten. F nf D rfer, eines in jedem l ndlichen Bezirk der Gemeinde, wurden f r die Durchf hrung der Umfragen ausgew hlt. Es sind die D rfer Ouoghi-gare, Alafia, Gob , Gb r und Founfoun. Anhand einer zielgerichteten Stichprobe, die auf der ethnischen Gruppe, der Religion und dem Bildungsniveau basierte, wurden 100 f r das Untersuchungsgebiet repr sentative landwirtschaftliche Produzenten ausgew hlt, mit denen Interviews gef hrt wurden. Die Erhebungen zeigten, dass die Shea-Parks in der Gemeinde Sav 18 Arten von kosystemleistungen aufweisen.

Ecosystems provide a wide range of services and benefits to many people around the world. Agroforestry systems are ecosystems compatible with sustainable agriculture because they have negligible impacts on the environment and provide important services to rural communities. The present study was conducted from July to September 2015 in the commune of Sav (Collines department) in central Benin. The purpose of the study was to assess the diversity and importance of ecosystem services provided by shea parks. Five villages, one in each rural district of the commune, were chosen to conduct the surveys. These were the villages of Ouoghi-gare, Alafia, Gob , Gb r and Founfoun. A purposive sample based on ethnic group, religion, and level of education was used to select 100 agricultural producers, representative of the study area, with whom interviews were conducted. The surveys showed that the shea parks in the commune of Sav have 18 types of ecosystem services.
