A book targeted at Small Business Owners who want to leave nothing to chance. It is an easy read and takes about an hour and a half to finish reading it. The insights in the book are from outside of The USA and Canada and therefore makes for a good read for the person who wants to learn from outside his or her usual world view. The global recession, taught us, that other parts of the world such as Australia and Africa, never felt the full impact of the meltdown perhaps because, they do things differently.Like a simulated experience, this book, enables you to learn from the safety of your seat, to better perceive the fundamentals at play in varying business environments and situations. This vital information keeps you away from experimenting and hence allowing you to apply business wisdom. As you go about your business, someone elsewhere, is preparing to compete with you. This competitor is not within your geographical location, but globalization through the internet, air transport and a mix of today's technology, makes him impact on your bottom-line just as if, he were next door. Available research, confirms to us, that business growth is rapidly shifting to regions that understand your region better than you do theirs. For instance, Brazil, Russia, India and China, are growing faster than the USA, Canada and the rest of Europe, because their awareness of the latter countries is at a higher level than the former countries awareness of them collectively. Africa is beginning to show strong signs too and cannot be ignored. If you are a first world citizen, then this book is for you as it cross-pollinates rather than inbreeds your knowledge, to give you a unique way to handling your business issues.Every topic in the book, covers what you would otherwise engage a consultant to tell you. So why not be the consultan

Every new business owner and aspiring entrepreneur will face one common challenge as they set out on their exciting journey - SALES; finding the right customers and getting them to part with their cash and buy. Like anything in life, you can do this the hard way or the easy way. You can delay, procrastinate, and wait for the telephone to ring or for business to come through the door. It may happen, but then again it may not! Alternatively, you can take control and get proactive - get selling and get SALES. Otherwise, stalemate, stagnation or decline - no sales, no customers, no business!Successful Selling for Small Business will: - help you 'get' sales; - help you develop a logical, 'can-do' approach to selling which fits your values, your business, you; - give you a sales habit or process for life, not just a quick fix; - demystify the selling process and remove any negative myths or perceptions; - help you grow your business and achieve your personal goals and ambitions. Small Business Entrepreneurship: Stories of Grit, Risk, and Reward from Startup to Success
If you want to become your own boss, this book is a must read. Not a dry how-to manual, it is instead a collection of stories, offering the real-life experiences of those who have gone before you, and succeeded. Self-described serial entrepreneur Allan Woolway tells here how his own background and experiences helped him navigate business opportunities, balancing risk with perseverance and a positive attitude. But he has also chronicled the experiences of others, each with a unique entrepreneurial story. The book offers real-life examples of how small-business owners handled the many questions start-ups face - when and how to invest, borrow, commit, hire, fire, quote, get leads, exercise exit strategies, form partnerships, outsource, and buy or sell. There is much to learn from their adventures, both from what worked, and what didn't. While a number of the stories focus on the technology industry, where Woolway spent most of his career, the rest tell the tale of entrepreneurs engaged in a diverse group of business operations, restaurants, sports gear, logistics management, and warehousing among them.Follow the stories of those who have gone before you, the successful strategies they employed to overcome the pitfalls they faced, and get ready to take the plunge.
The Success and Failure of Small Business in West Virginia
Small businesses are the backbone of the U.S. economy and represent the primary job source for American workers. Research exists on small business at a national and an international scale but a limited amount of region-specific information exists in the literature. The problem in this research was that owner-operated small businesses have a high fail rate, with less than half surviving more than five years and these survival rates have persisted in a relatively stable fashion for at least a decade, with policies appearing unable to increase the longevity of new businesses. The purpose of the research is to explore the relationship between social capital and the failure or success of twelve owner-operated businesses in West Virginia. The theoretical framework for this study is social exchange theory. This qualitative study used interpretive phenomenological analysis as the chosen research design because of the capability to query their lived experiences.
