Vicky Van follows a tense and intriguing mystery set around a dinner party that quickly turns into a crime scene. A seemingly carefree woman hosts the gathering, but when one of the guests is found stabbed in the dining room, chaos ensues. As the investigation unfolds, it becomes clear that not everything is as it seems. The woman disappears, leaving behind conflicting clues and suspicions, and the search for her begins. The narrative delves into the complexities of trust, loyalty, and the moral dilemmas faced by those involved in the case. The disappearance raises questions about the true nature of those around her, as well as their personal motives. The detective assigned to the case faces not only the challenge of solving the crime but also the emotional conflict of uncovering the truth while dealing with his own relationships and conflicting feelings. As the investigation progresses, the story explores the tension between appearances and reality, with characters navigating the difficult path between justice and personal attachment. The pursuit of answers uncovers hidden truths, revealing the intricacies of human emotions and the delicate balance between right and wrong.

In Vicky Swanky Is a Beauty, Diane Williams lays bare the urgency and weariness that shape our lives in stories honed sharper than ever. With sentences auguring revelation and explosion, Williams's unsettling stories--a cryptic meeting between neighbors, a woman's sexual worries, a graveside discussion, a chimney on fire--are narrated with razor-sharp tongues and naked, uproarious irreverence. These fifty stories hum with tension, each one so taut that it threatens to snap and send the whole thing sprawling--the mess and desire, the absurdity and hilarity, the bruises and bleeding, the blushes and disappointments and secrets. An audacious, unruly tour de force, Vicky Swanky Is a Beauty cements Diane Williams' position as one of the best practitioners of the short form in literature today.

This work tells the love story of the royal couple against the changing background of 19th-century Germany. It looks at the differing political sympathies of the couple, revealed through letters, and re-examines the prevailing view that the domineering Vicky never bothered to conceal her distaste for everything Prussian and flaunting her sense of British superiority. In many ways ahead of her time, she was something of a pioneer feminist, refusing to accept the oft-accepted maxim that women were second-class citizens. Insufficient consideration has been given to her health and the possibility that her judgement and reason may sometimes have been affected, albeit mildly, by the family's inheritance of porphyria that led to the 'madness' of her great-grandfather George III.

Trojan Gold: A Vicky Bliss Novel of Suspense
A picture is worth a thousand words . . . but the photograph art historian Vicky Bliss has just received in the mail gives rise to a thousand questions instead. At first glance it appears to be the famous portrait of Frau Schliemann adorned in the gold of Troy. But closer study reveals the picture to be contemporary--which is odd since Vicky knows the Trojan gold vanished sometime around the end of World War Two. And if she needed further proof that something here is terribly amiss, a quick look at the blood-stained envelope the photo arrived in should do the trick.Yet Vicky is not the only expert to receive this mysterious mailing. And the entire circle is gathering for a festive Bavarian Christmas--one, hopefully, to be made even more festive by the rediscovery of an ancient lost treasure. But the celebration could prove to be short--and bloody--courtesy of a very determined killer in their midst . . .
