April, is a young girl who awakens to find that she has memories from two different pasts, fifty years apart, both of which ended tragically when eight years old. She feels different. She is different, but, how is she ALIVE? Li-Ming has been assigned by Professor Askew to be April's 'educator'. She is dispassionate towards April and is a a harsh disciplinarian, although as April develops, she softens. April is warned by 'Travis' - someone who resides inside her head, to trust no-one. He teaches April various mental skills, albeit with reluctance. April has to be moved from the secret research site in California to one that is in Maryland, at the other side of the country. But, because of restrictions in the way April can travel, she is taken across America in a specially adapted RV (the CatV), they meet Jack, who befriends them, seeming to only appear when they are in trouble. The journey allows April to discover more about herself, and experience life from the places they travel to and the people she meets. Shadowing the CatV are government agents, who are supposed to keep a covert eye on April and Li-Ming. Also following the CatV are the Chinese, who want to abduct April. Through one reason or another, each planned attempt they make is thwarted, until they get their chance by Lake Erie. Following the botched surveillance work done by the government agents, the U.S. military, led by Colonel Gillian Forrest, take over the final leg of the journey. When they finally reach their destination at the Waterstone military base in Maryland, April finds out who she truly is, and of her previous life/lives. Unfortunately, Colonel Forrest is not impressed by April, and her inability to carry out particular military tasks and seeks permission to have her killed off. By chance, a secret military tribunal involving Li-Ming takes place at the Waterstone complex. April has the chance to make use of the skills she has learned and the special abilities she has attained since she gained consciousness if she is to survive and prevent Colonel Forrest from executing her plans for April. This science fiction story may be closer to reality than you think

Acclaimed historian and New York Times bestselling author Craig Shirley delivers a compelling account of 1945, particularly the watershed events in the month of April, that details how America emerged from World War II as a leading superpower. In the long-awaited follow-up to the widely praised December 1941,Craig Shirley's April 1945 paints a vivid portrait of America--her people, faith, economy, government, and culture. The year of 1945 bought a series of watershed events that transformed the country into an arsenal of democracy, one that no longer armed the world by necessity but henceforth protected the world by need.At the start of 1945, America and the rest of the world were grieving millions of lives lost in the global conflict. As President Roosevelt was sworn into his fourth term, optimism over an end to the bloody war had grown--then, in April, several events collided that changed the face of the world forever: the sudden death of President Roosevelt followed by Harry S. Truman's rise to office; Adolph Hitler's suicide; and the horrific discoveries of Dachau and Auschwitz. Americans doubled down on their completion of the atomic bomb and their plans to drop them on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the destruction ultimately leading the Japanese Empire to surrender on V-J day and ending World War II for good.Combining engaging anecdotes with deft research and details that are both diminutive and grand, April 1945 gives readers a front-row seat to the American stage at the birth of a brand-new world.
