Student-friendly introduction to the Gospel of John This up-to-date introduction to John's Gospel is the first volume in the Discovering Biblical Texts series, which encourages students to engage deeply with the biblical writings by alerting them to key issues and questions raised by the text. In Discovering John Ruth Edwards covers the structure, content, theological concerns, key interpretive debates, and historical reception of the Gospel of John. Does John still have meaning for the church and contemporary society? Does it need to be reinterpreted for today's world? Is it anti-Semitic? Edwards expertly guides readers through these questions and others, helping those interested in this provocative, sometimes enigmatic Gospel to discover the answers for themselves.

A constructive attempt to examine the traditional problems of the philosophy of religion in light of recently developed philosophical tools of analysis, concepts, and philosophical perspectives. This is the most important of my books, and the one by which I most hope to be remembered! Amelia B Edwards, 1877. A chance visit to Egypt in 1873 by Amelia B. Edwards changed the future of British Egyptology forever. Her travelogue, A Thousand Miles Up the Nile, would inspire generations after her to take up her message to support and promote Egyptian cultural heritage. While the way this is done has changed a lot, her legacy remains strong in the institutions she founded. This reprint unites previously unseen archival material with Amelia's famous text to bring her journey back to life. A new introduction reflecting on Amelia’s life and its legacy in Egyptology today provides much-needed context to the narrative - an essential companion to her text! The work is complimented by colour images of Edwards’s artwork, which have only previously been reproduced as black and white engravings. The new Introduction is by Carl Graves, Director of the Egypt Exploration Society, and Anna Garnett, Curator of the Petrie Museum of Egyptian and Sudanese Archaeology at UCL. "Finally, a chance to meet the real Amelia B. Edwards. A must buy for the introduction and cover alone!" Heba Abd El Gawad, Egyptologist

So many of our African-American youth have very little knowledge of their parents' and grandparents' childhoods. MY BLACK SOUTH is an attempt to give glimpses of African-Americans growing up and living in rural and segregated communities during the 1930's through the 1960's.. These vignettes are light-hearted, comical, sad and somewhat factual. A few have been embellished. Most have been passed down from generation to generation. I will continue to collect these and share them in the future. Hopefully, you will share this collection with youth in your family. I assure you that they are informative and thought provoking.

'If modern Egypt is so far away that it takes three weeks to get there, ancient Egypt is infinitely more distant.' So wrote novelist, journalist, traveller and Egyptologist Amelia Edwards (1831–92) in this, the last published work of her career. Having first travelled to Egypt in 1873, in 1889–90 Edwards was invited to lecture in the United States, campaigning for the Egypt Exploration Fund, of which she was joint honorary secretary. In five months she addressed 100,000 people at over 110 meetings in sixteen states. First published in 1892, a month before her death, this book is a collection of her lectures, containing substantial illustrations, additions, notes, and references. Exhibiting both Edwards' ability to make abstruse subjects come alive without losing factual correctness, and the humour and enthusiasm with which she recounted her experiences, this book marks the culmination of twenty years' research and exploration.
