Conrad's Decentered Fiction

Conrad's Decentered Fiction

Johan Adam Warodell

What are the fingerprints of Joseph Conrad's fiction? This richly illustrated book argues that Conrad's vibrant details set him apart as a writer and brings them from the margins to the center for study. With recently discovered primary sources - including drawings and maps in Conrad's own hand - this book travels widely across Conrad's fiction and explores its interest in marginal voices, characters and details. It produces a new picture of Conrad as a writer, and the first picture of Conrad as an amateur sketch artist. Introducing new critical vocabulary and applying new names from art history to Conrad studies, the book ranges across cartography, fashion, analytic philosophy, manuscript studies, and animal studies to discover Conrad as an artist operating across and between different media. Offered as a complement to the abstract approaches of much literary theory, this detail-driven and margin-focused monograph mirrors the characteristic granular nature of Conrad's fiction.

Conrad's Eastern Vision

Conrad's Eastern Vision

A. Yeow

Palgrave Macmillan
2009
nidottu
This book traces the dialogic relation between Conrad's Eastern fiction and other histories, arguing that it is in the intersections of art and history that we locate Conrad's irony. In a direct response to the visual culture of his times, Conrad sets up his fictional world as a hallucinated mirage stressing the veracity of his own Eastern vision.
Conrad and Masculinity

Conrad and Masculinity

A. Roberts

Palgrave Macmillan
2000
nidottu
This timely study offers a radical re-reading of Conrad's work in the light of contemporary theories of masculinity. Drawing on gay studies, feminism, film theory and literary theory, Roberts shows how Conrad's fiction, even as it reflects certain assumptions of its day about the role of men in society, offers striking insights into the instability of the 'masculine'. The book explores the relationship of masculinity with colonialism, modernity, the visual and the body in a wide range of Conrad's major and lesser-known fiction.

The Poetic Thoughts of Conrad T. Evanoff
My father was a story teller and liked to turn his stories and memories into poems. His poetry is about his history, childhood, family, life views and advise in general. His dying wish was to see his poetry in a printed book. We compiled over 60 of his poems for this book and got it printed just three weeks before he passed. It gave him a lot of joy at the end of his life, we hope you enjoy his work.
