When Addison Gerhardt’s best friend, Devin Velma, begs for his help, Addi knows he’s in trouble. After all, Devin wants to hit it big on the internet by pulling a stunt at an NBA game - one the entire nation will be watching. Addison can’t turn Devin down, but he can barely manage talking to his teachers without freezing up. How’s he supposed to handle the possibility of being a viral sensation? Addi’s not sure why Devin is bent on pulling off this almost-impossible feat. Maybe it has something to do with Devin’s dad’s hospital bills. Maybe it all goes back to the Double-Barreled Monkey Bar Backflip of Doom. Or maybe it’s something else entirely. No matter what, though, it’s risky for both of them, and when the big day finally comes, Devin’s plan threatens more than just their friendship.
The daring and passionate MacKade Brothers return in these two classic stories The Heart of Devin MacKade Sheriff Devin MacKade has always known his destiny was to serve and protect the small town of Antietam, Maryland--and for a long while he thought that future would include Cassie Connor. The Fall of Shane MacKade Shane MacKade is used to getting what he wants, especially when it comes to women. So it comes as a shock when he is rebuffed by the brilliant Dr. Rebecca Knight. The PhD-toting academic takes Shane completely off guard with her intelligence and wit while she conducts a research experiment at his family's ancestral farm. Rebecca is too busy to make any time for romance, but she can't help but succumb to the MacKade charm. Shane's days as a bachelor might just be coming to an end... Previously Published.

Created from official military reports, research, and dozens of interviews with family members, fellow soldiers, friends, and community members, Shieldmaiden captures the life and times of Sgt. Devin A. Snyder, the only female soldier from Western New York killed during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Snyder was part of a military police battalion assigned to train Afghan National Police in peacekeeping duties in order to prevent the return of the Taliban and other Islamic Fundamentalist groups. She and four others were killed when an IED struck their convoy on June 4, 2011. The shockwave from that blast traveled ever outward, tearing through the military and sending a wave of grief into the small town where Devin grew up. Though the people of Western New York did not expect the Global War on Terror to come to rural America, it did. The Snyders have come through despair and hopelessness and now are convinced that Devin's spirit watches over them like the bald eagle that circled the skies above her funeral. In order to turn a personal tragedy into a public service, the Snyders started the Sgt. Devin A. Snyder Memorial Foundation, which supports veteran's service organizations and local law enforcement. They hold a motorcycle rally each year to raise money and work to keep their daughter's memory alive. Bearing their grief hasn't gotten much easier, but they have come to know that the best way to honor the dead is to try to live a good life.

It's 1962 and all across America barriers are collapsing. But when Natalie Marx's mother inquires about summer accommodations in Vermont, she gets the following reply: The Inn at Lake Devine is a family-owned resort, which has been in continuous operation since 1922. Our guests who feel most comfortable here, and return year after year, are Gentiles. For twelve-year-old Natalie, who has a stubborn sense of justice, the words are not a rebuff but an infuriating, irresistible challenge. In this beguiling novel, Elinor Lipman charts her heroine's fixation with a small bastion of genteel anti-Semitism, a fixation that will have wildly unexpected consequences on her romantic life. As Natalie tries to enter the world that has excluded her--and succeeds through the sheerest of accidents--The Inn at Lake Devine becomes a delightful and provocative romantic comedy full of sparkling social mischief. "A punchy little comedy of manners. . . . Think Jane Austen in the Catskills." --Chicago Tribune"A tale of delicious revenge." --USA Today "A funny, knowing novel about how love really does conquer all. . . . Thanks to Lipman's deft touch, the novel . . . rivals her own best work for its understanding of the way smart, opinionated people stumble toward happiness." --Glamour "Delightful. . . . [A] witty romantic comedy." --The New York Times Book Review
It's 1962 and Natalie Marx is shocked when her mother receives this reply to her enquiry about summer accommodation in Vermont: 'Our guests who feel most comfortable here, and return year after year, are Gentiles.'It was not complicated, as her mother pointed out. 'They had a hotel; they didn't want Jews. We were Jews.' For the intrepid twelve-year-old Natalie, the words are an infuriating, irresistible challenge. She manages to wangle an invitation to join a friend on holiday there - and, as her obsession begins with the family that has excluded her, she sets in train events which will change her life, and which will tie her forever to the eccentric family who run the Inn at Lake Devine
