In May 1896, residents along the Philadelphia Main Line organized a meeting on the lawn of the Devon Inn inviting friends and neighbors to effect an organization for the purpose of holding a Horse Show at Devon. In the aftermath of World War I, the Devon Horse Show incorporated a country fair in 1919 to support a local charity and selected Bryn Mawr Hospital as its beneficiary. Devon Horse Show and Country Fair follows the organization from its humble beginnings as a one-day show for local breeding farmers in the Philadelphia countryside to its rise as a premier international equestrian event. While it draws top competitors from around the world, the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair remains uniquely rooted in tradition and community. More than 2,500 volunteers return year after year, generation after generation, to ensure its success for the benefit of Bryn Mawr Hospital.

Devon gets caught in another gigantic lie when she tries to hide her insecurity from her boyfriend in this laugh-out-loud sequel to Devon Delaney Should Totally Know Better.Devon Delaney cannot believe she’s lying again. But the thing is, she can’t help it! Her new boyfriend, Luke, is talking to his (gorgeous) ex-girlfriend, Bailey Barelli, every single day in mock trial. They get along great for people who are broken up, but Devon is certainly not jealous—or worried that Luke still likes Bailey as much as Bailey seems to still like him. To prove how cool she is with everything, Devon invents an ex-boyfriend of her own: Greg. So, everything’s great because both she and Luke have exes they’re completely normal about, and Devon isn’t being clingy over her first boyfriend. What could go wrong? Devon really should’ve remembered how quickly lies spiral out of her control. Can Devon come clean in time to keep the guy—or will she lose everything over another lie?

The book Devon in Heaven was written because one of the most devastating circumstances in a parent's life is the death of their child. At no time is a word of encouragement more needed. This book contains a fairly lengthy poem designed to provide support and healing for parents, knowing that not only is their child in heaven but also is having a much-better time (even a lot of fun) with God and the angels. The author has included several enjoyable moments, which show happiness and joy in heaven, while he is - chasing a moonbeam but sliding on a heavenly rug; - chasing a puppy he loved; - listening to beautiful flowers, which call his name and sing; - getting food from the heavenly kitchen, along with ice cream and cake, including seconds; - petting lions, tigers, bears, and other animals in a zoo, which needs no bars; - climbing trees more easily as he grows bigger; - enjoying heavenly kindergarten; - fishing and catching frogs; - saving money, along with a friend, to buy a heavenly sled; and - enjoying the Holy Spirit, a real cool guy. Words of encouragement are also included for each of us to receive Christ into our hearts and to help others. Everything in the book is to encourage any parent in this time of need.

Devon and Cornwall The Class 47 Years

Devon and Cornwall The Class 47 Years

The year 2002 saw a radical change on the railways of Devon and Cornwall: it was the last year of daily locomotive hauled passenger trains (other than the overnight London sleeper). These remaining workings were in the capable hands of the ubiquitous Class 47 diesel locomotives, which had plied their trade on the rails of the south-west for almost four decades. `Devon and Cornwall—The Class 47 Years’ is a book of two halves: the first documenting the locomotives’ daily work on all manner of trains and lines in the area from 1966 onwards and the second providing a detailed examination of 2002—their last year in front-line passenger service in the West Country—with a glimpse of some of the other automotive power seen in that year. All of this is now history, a snapshot back in time. Over 180 colour photographs, all captured by the author, take the reader on a chronological trip with much nostalgia and a host of unrepeatable scenes that showcase many of the stunning locations to be found in the two counties.

Investigative journalist, Dan Morris, was a man on a mission. He had already disrupted the illegal drugs trade in Bristol and was now determined to uncover a so-called County Lines gang operating in South Devon. Anecdotally, huge amounts of cocaine and other drugs were flooding into Devon by land, sea and air.

This, the first of two volumes covering the railways of Devon, follows the routes of the two main lines that enter the county from the east. Firstly, the former Western Region line is examined as it runs from Whiteball Tunnel in the Blackdown Hills and down along the attractive Culm and Exe Valleys to the county town of Exeter. It then takes the reader over the former Southern Region line from Axminster through rolling countryside to Exeter where the two routes meet. In addition, the book explores the branch lines that are still open in this part of the county; firstly, the one to Exmouth, which runs beside the Exe estuary for half of its length, and then by way of a contrast, the line to Barnstaple, which penetrates the rural heart of Devon to reach the county's north coast. Finally, a look is taken at the Okehampton branch, which has just been acquired by Network Rail and is about to have its passenger service reinstated. Illustrated with over 180 colour photographs, only a few of which have been published previously, this volume records many of the changes that have taken place over the last 35 years to both the infrastructure and trains. Coverage is mainly of service trains, but a number of special workings are also included. It depicts some of the older locomotive classes in their final days as well as the traction that provides today's services.
