Eric Parry is an architect who draws. This book is about the interaction and relationship of those two practices – of drawing as design tool, and as a way of engaging with the world in which buildings exist and which they play a part in shaping The text comprises a dialogue between Parry and Owen Hopkins, Senior Curator at Sir John Soane’s Museum, London, which is the venue for an exhibition of Parry’s drawings in spring 2019. The dialogue is arranged across ten episodes relating to themes and ideas that emerged over a series of conversations during the creation of the exhibition. At once self-contained and part of a broader whole, these episodes meditate on the meaning, medium and culture of architectural drawing. An essay by David Leatherbarrow, Professor of Architecture and Chairman of the Graduate Group in Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, offers a counterpoint, providing both a detailed analysis of Parry’s drawing practice and context for the preceding dialogue.

Stover and Erdmann deal with the crises confronting today's world and argue that solutions will come not from new technology nor in retreating to an idealized agrarian past, but by overhauling the beliefs that structure society. They link the dilemmas facing civilization to a fundamental rift running through society—one between religion and the humanities, rooted in subjective experience, and science, which emphasizes objective knowledge. They suggest a promising way of closing this rift found in the work of Nobel Laureate and neuroscientist Roger W. Sperry.They examine Sperry's lifework, including his famous split- brain research and show how it led him to propose a theory of consciousness that challenged science's dismissal of subjective experience as irrelevant. By seeing consciousness as an emergent, causal property of brain function, Sperry reinstated subjective experience into the scientific worldview, laid the foundation for the cognitive revolution that has since swept through psychology, and created a means by which science can help create ethical systems better able to deal with today's challenges. Volume 6 of the Collected Works of Eric Voegelin offers the first translation of the full German text of Anamnesis published in 1966. The previous English edition, translated by Gerhart Niemeyer, focused largely on the sections of Anamnesis dealing directly with Voegelin's philosophy of consciousness. It omitted some of the extensive historical studies on which the philosophy of consciousness was based. To properly understand Voegelin's work, however, it is essential to give equal weight to the empirical as well as the philosophical aspects. This complete version of Anamnesis captures the full integrity of his vision. It is at once scientific, in the sense of fidelity to the demands of historiographic scholarship, and philosophical, in exploring the significance of the texts for the meaning of human existence in society and history. Anamnesis is a pivotal work within Voegelin's intellectual odyssey. Alone among Voegelin's books, it reveals an author looking back and taking stock of his growth rather than customarily forging ahead into new regions and new problems.
