ClusterPhuck Have you ever wondered why politicians, executives, teachers, your boss, or perhaps your neighbors, do and say things that leads to a disaster? Have you been caught up in the middle of the disaster? This book not only provides you with why and how ClusterPhucks happen, but how you can better predict, prepare, and prevent, the next scam, incompetent boss, and corrupt politician, BEFORE you cast your next vote. Imagine being able to know whether a person is lying or not by just asking a few questions, or if your boss is displaying competent leadership traits, or bad traits that will lead the company into bankruptcy and jeopardize your employment. Get ahead of the game This book is also perfect for aspiring executives, business owners, and politicians. Reduce your risk of being that person that shakes their head AFTER a ClusterPhuck has severely disrupted or destroyed your life, and caused you to lose your money, your job, reputation, spouse, and all of the other things in life that you once felt was safe from harm.
Topology, Geometry and Gauge fields

Topology, Geometry and Gauge fields

This is a book on topology and geometry and, like any books on subjects as vast as these, it has a point-of-view that guided the selection of topics. Naber takes the view that the rekindled interest that mathematics and physics have shown in each other of late should be fostered and that this is best accomplished by allowing them to cohabit. The book weaves together rudimentary notions from the classical gauge theory of physics with the topological and geometrical concepts that became the mathematical models of these notions. We ask the reader to come to us with some vague notion of what an electromagnetic field might be, a willingness to accept a few of the more elementary pronouncements of quantum mechanics, a solid background in real analysis and linear algebra and some of the vocabulary of modern algebra. To such a reader we offer an excursion that begins with the definition of a topological space and finds its way eventually to the moduli space of anti-self-dual SU(2) connections on S4 with instanton number -1. Iwould go over both volumes thoroughly and make some minor changes in terminology and notation and correct any errors I find. In this new edition, a chapter on Singular Homology will be added as well as minor changes in notation and terminology throughout and some sections have been rewritten or omitted. Reviews of First Edition: “It is unusual to find a book so carefully tailored to the needs of this interdisciplinary area of mathematical physics...Naber combines a knowledge of his subject with an excellent informal writing style." (NZMS Newletter) "...this book should be very interesting for mathematicians and physicists (as well as other scientists) who are concerned with gauge theories." (Zentralblatt Fuer Mathematik)

A study of topology and geometry, beginning with a comprehensible account of the extraordinary and rather mysterious impact of mathematical physics, and especially gauge theory, on the study of the geometry and topology of manifolds. The focus of the book is the Yang-Mills-Higgs field and some considerable effort is expended to make clear its origin and significance in physics. Much of the mathematics developed here to study these fields is standard, but the treatment always keeps one eye on the physics and sacrifices generality in favor of clarity. This second edition has replaced a brief appendix in the first on the Seiberg-Witten equations with a much more detailed survey of Donaldson-Witten Theory and the Witten Conjecture regarding the relationship between Donaldson and Seiberg-Witten invariants.A large number of exercises are included to encourage active participation on the part of the reader.Review from first edition:"It is unusual to find a book so carefully tailored to the needs of this interdisciplinary area of mathematical physics...Naber combines a knowledge of his subject with an excellent informal writing style."SIAM REVIEW

A History of Alcatraz Island Since 1853

As one of America's most notorious prisons, Alcatraz has been a significant part of California's history since 1853.The small island known in sea charts by its Spanish name Isla de los Alcatraces or "Island of Pelicans" laid essentially dormant until the 1850s, when the US military converted the island into a fortress to protect the booming San Francisco region. Alcatraz served as a pivotal military position until the early 20th century and in 1934 was converted into a federal penitentiary to house some of America's most incorrigible prisoners. The penitentiary closed in 1963, and Alcatraz joined the National Park Service system in 1972. Since then, it has remained one of the Bay Area's most popular attractions as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.Gregory L. Wellman, a California-based consultant, reveals in these images the evolution of Alcatraz. The island's startling transformation comes alive through the photographic collections of the Alcatraz Alumni Association, the Golden Gate National Archives, and other private collections from around the country. This stirring imagery documents the evolution of one of America's most renowned and memorable landmarks.

Being continually featured in popular movies and music, Irish music is as popular as ever. Compiled by Gregory Mahan, an Irish whistler for over 16 years, this collection offers a wide variety of jigs, from well-known favorites such as The Cliffs of Moher and Munster Buttermilk to tunes which may not be as well known at your local pub, such as I Buried My Wife and Danced on Her Grave and Sean-Tiobraid rann. The sheet music in this book is suitable for any lead line instrument typically used in Irish music, such as fiddle, flute, tinwhistle, and uilleann pipes. Also includes notes on playing in the Irish style as an added bonus.
