Anyone who has attended an American public high school can identify with The B.G. It is written in three parts: school year, suicide, and abuse of teenagers. Part one portrays a normal year in high school, following some students and their attendant tribulations and triumphs. The second part deals with two young women who have never been loved...both Tori and Dawn consider suicide. Years later some of the teens in the first part attend a class reunion in the final pages, having matured and outlived their perilous teenage years. The final part, Save the Dogs, presents a parallel between feral dogs and feral adults, the dogs attacking farm animals, and the adults targeting teenagers. The end of the book brings together the first two parts and provides a positive solution-wrapping up a "normal" American high school. The bottom line: kids matter.

The life and work of American director John G. Avildsen is thoroughly examined in this detailed filmography and critical study. Each of the most significant films made by the Oscar-winning Avildsen is given a separate chapter, including such critical successes as Joe and Save the Tiger, and box-office blockbusters Rocky and its sequels and the Karate Kid series. The authors' observations on these and other titles--some well known, others less familiar--are enhanced by extensive production notes, and by commentary from John G. Avildsen himself. Cinema historian Jean Bodon of Sam Houston State University provides a foreword.

As of early 2010, more than two million U.S. troops have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Yet the American public is neither much engaged in the issues of these two wars nor particularly knowledgeable about the troops’ experiences, which have ranged from positive and energizing to searing and debilitating. Based on scores of interview--some culled from the Library of Congress Veterans History Project and others conducted by the author himself--Through Veterans’ Eyes presents a composite narrative of the experiences of U.S. service personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan. Minear quotes more than 175 veterans by name and includes a dozen of their own photos from the conflict theaters. Thematic chapters cover duty and service, politics, cultural and ethical challenges, relationships to local populations, and reentry into American society. Neither pro-war nor anti-war, Minear’s approach encourages veterans to express their views on issues critical to the nation. What has motivated U.S. military personnel to enlist? What specific challenges have they faced in Iraq and Afghanistan? What have been the impacts of deployment on their families and communities? Is their experience changing their views of their country and the world? What lessons may be learned from their stories? Veterans’ candid responses to these and other probing questions deserve pondering.

In the year 2270, the Lyceum Mechaniska laboratory has produced androids-part robot, part human-called "InOrganics." Marigold is one such creation, built with the purpose of assisting individuals who have experienced emotional or physical trauma. However, Marigold has been acting strangely, even aggressively. When Marigold is accused of murder, she is in danger of being terminated. Despite what scientists believe, she is innocent of her crimes and is now on a mission to stop a virus from being released and adhere to the last words of a dying man by finding "the Pink Bunny." Detective Chabox Brignadoc has long been suspicious of Lyceum and the company's behind-the-scenes behavior. Brignadoc must determine if Marigold is actually guilty of murder or if she's the victim of conspiracy. In an adventure that spans two continents, both Marigold and DCI Brignadoc are in a race against time to expose a deadly secret that could change the face of humanity forever.
