"I'M A HUGE FAN OF LORA LEIGH'S BREED BOOKS." --Nalini Singh, New York Times Bestselling Author of the Psy/Changeling Novels There's a fine line between animal instinct and human desire--and in the newest book in her "highly erotic saga" (Fresh Fiction) of the Breeds, Lora Leigh crosses it. Lion Breed and enforcer Rule Breaker has a few rules he doesn't break. But having sex with a woman outside his own breed, even a human woman, is not one of them. Especially when it's Gypsy, the party girl who's determined to lead him on a merry chase. But she won't be able to outrun the lion--or the man in hot pursuit. What he suspects is mating heat may not be that at all. Just his animal instincts rioting, pacing, irritated whenever he's away from her. What ensues is a fiery affair that breaks all the rules of mating heat and will eventually endanger his mate with the very rules designed to protect the Breeds--for she's possibly been working against them...

If God is good, why does He allow evil and suffering? How can we reconcile a good God and the present existence of evil that we see around us?These questions are less about the evil that inhibits the earth and more about the kind of God who allows it to exist and continue. In many ways, when people ask these questions, they are saying to God, "How could You? How dare You? Why would You allow this to happen?"With all the evil in the world, it's easy to find someone to blame for suffering.Yet, the world that we see, with all its suffering and evil has an explanation. In "Putting Man on Trial: Proofs for the Existence of God" by Lora Ziebro, readers will: Delve into why God allows evil and suffering to exist Understand what "God" means in the first place and how our perception of Him defines and shapes all that we do, say, and thinkUncover intrinsic truths about God, His character, and His being, as well as how His love transcends our fallen conditionDiscover how Jesus is incomparable to even the greatest of men and women and see that He alone is the answer to the judgment, evil, and ruin that encompasses this universeLearn about the ONE thing that hinders and blinds people to sufficient and reasonable evidence for God's existenceFind the answer to two of mankind's greatest questions, "Why am I here?" and "What is my purpose?"These are just some of the things that Lora Ziebro will cover in this powerful book. She examines the age-old issues of suffering, pain and the existence of an Almighty God and weighs all the evidence to finally deliver the verdict of who is guilty for all the chaos in this world. This book will take you down a journey that puts mankind, not God, on the witness stand. Migrant Teachers

Migrant Teachers

Migrant Teachers investigates an overlooked trend in U.S. schools today: the growing reliance on teachers trained overseas. This timely study maps the shifting landscape of American education, as federal mandates require K-12 schools to employ qualified teachers or risk funding cuts. Lora Bartlett asserts that a narrowly technocratic view of teachers as subject specialists has spurred some public school districts to look abroad. When these districts use overseas-trained teachers as transient, migrant labor, the teachers have little opportunity to connect well with their students, thereby reducing the effectiveness of their teaching.Approximately 90,000 teachers from the Philippines, India, and other countries came to the United States between 2002 and 2008. These educators were primarily recruited by inner-city school districts that have traditionally struggled to attract teachers. From the point of view of school administrators, these are excellent employees. They are well educated, experienced, and able to teach in areas like math, science, and special education where teachers are in short supply.Despite the additional recruitment of qualified teachers, American schools are failing to reap the possible benefits of the global labor market. Bartlett shows how the framing of these recruited teachers as stopgap, low-status workers cultivates a high-turnover, low-investment workforce that undermines the conditions needed for good teaching and learning. Bartlett calls on schools to provide better support to both overseas-trained teachers and their American counterparts. Migrant Teachers asks us to consider carefully how we define teachers' work, distribute the teacher workforce, and organize schools for effective teaching and learning.
Kansas Murals

Kansas Murals

Travelers in Kansas in search of fine art needn't restrict themselves to the state's many excellent museums. They need look no further than the walls of their own communities to discover a remarkable array of murals - artistic creations that are striking, democratic, and easily accessible. Depicting Civil War history, the fruits of agriculture, Kansas' diverse cultural roots, and much more, these long-neglected works are now the subject of Lora Jost and Dave Loewenstein's fine new book. Jost and Loewenstein, artists themselves, have crisscrossed Kansas researching and documenting over 600 murals to promote, preserve, and celebrate this vibrant public art. Theirs is the first and only book devoted exclusively to Kansas murals - a striking visual travelogue that offers a new perspective on the state's culture and history. From unique small-town creations like Dennis Burghart's ""The Saga of the Santa Fe outside the Offerle Cafe"" to the world-famous John Steuart Curry painting of John Brown in the state capitol, murals constitute an enormous public art gallery. Some are socially compelling or were once the focus of intense controversy. Many are group projects in which artists have served as coordinators; these murals represent true expressions of their communities. All show the state as it has been seen through the eyes of Kansas artists over the past hundred years. The authors focus on ninety exemplary murals - including mosaics and friezes - organized by region and featuring full-color photographs, brief descriptions, and notes on the artists. From Sacred Heart Cathedral to the Early Childhood Center on the Potawatomi Prairie Band Reservation, the artworks selected represent some of the most enduring and powerful images to be found throughout the state. The book also provides regional locator maps for travelers and a list of all 600-plus murals with their locations. A unique resource that attests to the rich diversity of the mural tradition, this book is an open invitation to visit the open-air museum of Kansas murals and appreciate the stories they tell and their place in public life. They may be tucked into urban landscapes or require travel to out-of-the way locales; some may even be stained by years of exposure to the elements; but these expressions of public art are there for the viewing - and now, thanks to this book, there for the finding.

Two Lands, Two Languages, Two Lives

Two Lands, Two Languages, Two Lives

This book tells the extraordinary story of a life spent in extraordinary circumstances. The author was born in Moscow and grew up in a Russia still adjusting to the post-Stalin era. An eventful enough life spent in the stability and certainty of Cold War Communism was thrown into turmoil when the great Soviet experiment drew to an end during the late 1980s. In the chaos that replaced it the author, together with her infant daughter, left the land of their birth and headed for England, on the other side of the recently withdrawn Iron Curtain. And so began the second phase of the author's life with a new family, in a new land, requiring new work and facing new challenges. This moving and fascinating account is revealed as a rich tapestry into which are woven threads of adventure and excitement, humour and pure joy, as well as those of fear, despair and tragedy. It is a tale of two lives within two countries across two cultures throughout which pervades an unwavering instinct for survival and a mother's unquestioning love. The book will appeal to a wide audience. For advanced level students of Russian (and for Russian-speaking students learning English) its dual-language format will be of particular interest - a story of two lives across two lands in two languages.
The Ideology of Progress, World Culture, and Animal Protection
The organized protection of animals and the necessity of meat in the human diet are grounded in an ideology of progress that had clearly emerged by the eighteenth century. Stone examines the changing status of animals, increased meat consumption, the nation-state's role in animal protection, and the emergence of non-governmental organizations dedicated to animal protection. This work emphasizes that animal protection and increased meat consumption occur with the expansion of world-level culture and that culture's ideology of progress. This world culture defines animal protection, including the alleviation of pain and suffering, as a necessary value and a goal of a progressive culture and its citizens. Yet, this same culture defines meat consumption, which is perceived as a dietary necessity and indicative of socio-economic development, as another characteristic of a progressive culture and its citizens. While this work examines the dual consumption and protection of animals, Stone also directs attention toward the human population growth and patterns of food production, distribution, and consumption.
