True-life spine-chilling encounters with disembodied voices throughout history and in the present day. THEY KNOW YOUR NAME! Voices are calling us—voices without an attached form. Encounters with these disembodied voices warn us, haunt us, confuse us, inspire us, and scare us. For good reason. Explore spine-chilling, true stories from investigations and real occurrences throughout history that expose disembodied voices. Objectively and thoroughly presented, the evidence and theories shine light on possible reasons and agendas for these voices and where they might originate. Gain insight into what they are and what we may be able to learn from them. Sometimes they inspire great acts; other times they lead us astray. Are they forgotten woodland deities? Is it an ancient evil from the days of Eden? Is there a single intelligence behind them all, or perhaps we shouldn’t look too deeply . . . or else. Famous reports from history as well as never-before-published reports of disembodied voices from the everyday lives of common people are discussed. But what about you? When the voices call, will you answer? Hair-raising conclusions found here will make you think twice.

Gillian Marchenko

"I stand on the edge of a cliff in my own bedroom." Gillian Marchenko continues her description of depression: "I must keep still. Otherwise I will plunge to my death. 'Please God, take this away,' I pray when I can." For Gillian, "dealing with depression" means learning to accept and treat it as a physical illness. In these pages she describes her journey through various therapies and medications to find a way to live with depression. She faces down the guilt of a wife and mother of four, two with special needs. How can she care for her family when she can't even get out of bed? Her story is real and raw, not one of quick fixes. But hope remains as she discovers that living with depression is still life.

In 1957, at the age of 9, Susan's brother was in an adult unit - a unit treating very seriously ill mental patients. In 1985, Susan's brother took delivery of an Aston Martin DBS V8. The intervening 28 years hold a remarkable story about a man who grew and prospered as a successful engineering professional, but started out as a dyslexic 'slow starter', unwanted by his parents and sister. Set in a Middle England which is recovering from the war, damaged buildings and infrastructure have to be repaired, but also damage people and damaged lives. This is based on a true history, a history that gives hope, a history that demonstrates how simple acts of kindness by friends and neighbours can help someone overcome tremendous handicaps, identity denial and family abuse to become a success both as a person and a parent. There is also a message about those who learn to abuse as children and continue that abuse into adulthood with their own children, and also about those in the extended family who turn a blind eye out of a misplaced sense of family loyalty. This book has some dark moments, but it is a book written to uplift. As it was related to James, by Susan's brother: "I want this book to show that ordinary people, doing ordinary things, can help someone get through the most appalling difficulties. If it wasn't for the Tolhursts, I wouldn't be here today"

First published in 1998. This is an examination of corporate social responsibility in Britain and Italy. There is a growing interest in businesses rendering themselves more socially active and becoming more involved in addressing social problems. A number of British companies have been adopting many of the community practices that have characterized corporate life in America since the early 1960s. Corporate responsibility is defined as a business engagement in the wider community in order to contribute towards the general well-being of society. This study employs a hybrid methodology using a variety of sources including historical texts, secondary studies and detailed case studies of corporate social programmes. Businesses studied include Shell, BT, Unilever, and BAT Industries in Britain, and Fiat, Olivetti, ENI, IRI and Dioguardi in Italy. The study aims to provide a qualitative explanation of why companies go beyond their commercial remit to become engaged in communitarian and philanthropic action. Ultimately, the book aims to present a socially and politically informed analysis placed in its historical and political context, taking into consideration economic forces.

When Rebecca receives a mysterious note from an unknown source, she has no idea how it will change her life. Twenty-year-old Rebecca Veritas is used to being different, but has never felt extraordinary. She is a Dreamer, living in a world of poetry intermixed with the antics of her unique family and eccentric best friend Adriana. When she meets Peter, a young student from Canada who seems somehow to understand her from the start, her perception changes. With "Intermission", the single word in that mysterious note, as inspiration, the two writers embark on an incredible journey to a new world in the form of a story that will ultimately parallel their own lives. Yet, as the story progresses, events remain ever more shrouded in mystery. When unexpected circumstances in the real world throw their lives in disarray, it will be up to Rebecca to find the true meaning of "Intermission" before the curtain closes on the final act.
