This book introduces a comprehensive and mathematically rigorous controller design for families of nonlinear systems with time-varying parameters and unstructured uncertainties. Although the presented methodology is general, the specific family of systems considered is the latest, NextGen, unconventional fixed-wing unmanned aircraft with circulation control or morphing wings, or a combination of both.The approach considers various sources of model and parameter uncertainty, while the controller design depends not on a nominal plant model, but instead on a family of admissible plants. In contrast to existing controller designs that consider multiple models and multiple controllers, the proposed approach is based on the ‘one controller fits all models’ within the unstructured uncertainty interval.The book presents a modeling-based analysis and synthesis approach with additive uncertainty weighting functions for accurate realization of the candidate systems. This differs significantly from existing designs in that it is capable of handling time-varying characteristics. This research monograph is suitable for scientists, engineers, researchers and graduate students with a background in control system theory who are interested in complex engineering nonlinear systems.

This book is about the ways in which experiments can be employed in the context of research on learning technologies and child–computer interaction (CCI). It is directed at researchers, supporting them to employ experimental studies while increasing their quality and rigor. The book provides a complete and comprehensive description on how to design, implement, and report experiments, with a focus on and examples from CCI and learning technology research. The topics covered include an introduction to CCI and learning technologies as interdisciplinary fields of research, how to design educational interfaces and visualizations that support experimental studies, the advantages and disadvantages of a variety of experiments, methodological decisions in designing and conducting experiments (e.g. devising hypotheses and selecting measures), and the reporting of results. The murals of the Battle of the Milvian Bridge and the Vision of the Cross in the Sala di Costantino in the Vatican, named after the fresco-cycle conceived by Raphael and executed by Giulio Romano, are regarded by scholars as originating from an intense study of antiquity in Raphael’s circle, followed by a desire to achieve an historically accurate approach to ancient art. However, Raphael was recognised already by Giorgio Vasari, Ludovico Dolce and Annibale Carracci, not only for his expertise on antiquity, but also for his poetic qualities as an outstanding history painter. Based on the motto anticamente moderno e modernamente antico, with which Pietro Aretino describes Giulio Romano’s ideal synthesis of ancient and contemporary art, Michail Chatzidakis analyses the difference between historical and poetic methods of representation in order to determine more precisely the relationship between archaeological precision and poetic creativity in the work of Raphael and his circle in the Sala di Costantino.
