Central Bank Policy: Theory and Practice analyses policies and practices adopted by central banks globally, as well as the institutional arrangements underlying the principles of good governance in policymaking. Discussion focuses on philosophical and conceptual theories that have key implications for central bank policy making and findings are supported by relevant quantitative analyses and case studies reflecting recent issues with respect to centralized financial policy making, including the adoption of the Inflation Targeting Framework in Indonesia. The book bridges the gap between theory and practice within the central bank policy framework by going beyond the rapidity of theoretical developments to address lesser known and understood policy practices, such as the Flexible Inflation Targeting Framework and macroprudential policy. With wide ranging scope and in-depth materials presented, alongside the authors' extensive experiences and involvement in the policymaking process at Bank Indonesia, Central Bank Policy is a vital practical tool and reference aid for policymakers, practitioners and academic researchers in the area of financial, banking, and monetary policies.

A practical guide for scholars ready to write beyond the academy. Public scholarship should not be reserved for celebrity intellectuals or tenured faculty at elite institutions. It's designed for anyone who wants to share their academic work and engage with the public beyond the classroom or conference panel. In The Public Scholar, historian and journalist David M. Perry offers a clear, candid, and practical guide to writing for public audiences. Rather than debating whether academics should write for the public, Perry focuses on the practical details of how to approach public scholarship. How do you pitch a piece to an editor? What counts as evidence in a 900-word op-ed? When should you follow or ignore the rules of the genre? And what happens once your piece is out in the world? Covering the full life cycle of public writing, Perry walks readers through pitching, writing, editing, publishing, building a platform, and navigating the real-world risks and rewards that come with stepping into the public sphere. As the author of multiple best-selling books and over five hundred essays, Perry shares insights that are direct, hard-won, and refreshingly honest. He explains how public-facing work can support an academic career, how it can provide leverage for tenure and promotion, and, importantly, how it can also live outside traditional institutional paths. Perry's accessible approach invites scholars at all stages to consider what public engagement might look like in their own lives. Whether you're hoping to write for major newspapers, connect with communities beyond your discipline, or simply make your research more visible, The Public Scholar offers the right tools to help you get started.

William James's Naval History is one of the most valuable works in the English language on the operation of the Royal Navy during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. James corresponded widely with the survivors of the events he describes. By carefully evaluating and balancing conflicting reports and testimonies, he achieved an accuracy often lacking in later studies. The original five volumes were published in 1822 -- 24, with a six-volume edition appearing in 1826. Previously, the work has only been available to scholars through specialist libraries. This new hardcover edition, with an introduction by the noted naval historian Andrew Lambert as well as an index for each volume, provides both scholars and maritime enthusiasts an accessible and affordable edition of this important work. Illustrated with charts, diagrams, and images, the work remains an essential source for all those who are interested in the operation of the Royal Navy in this period.

Cocaine's Impact on Affect, Activity & Reward is Dose-Dependently Impacted by Age

This book examines the impact of different doses of cocaine on three interrelated measures related to affective behaviours between adolescent and adult mice in order to assess the range of affective and rewarding responses, measure of despair, activity, and reward were used. Such methods included the forced swim test (FST), motor activity (MA), and the conditioned place preference (CPP) tests, respectively. Cocaine was selected, in part, because of its robust psychostimulant properties, its use by millions of substance abusers world-wide, and its well understood mechanism of action. This study may help explain some of the neurobiological underpinnings of these finding because cocaine was especially effective in reducing despair-related behaviour in adolescence compared with adults, yet less effective in as an euphoric agent.
