This assumption stems from the idea that the brain consists entirely of material particles and fields, and that all causal mechanisms relevant to neuroscience can be formulated solely in terms of properties of these elements. Contemporary basic physical theory differs from classic physics on the important matter of how consciousness of human agents enters into the structure of empirical phenomena. Forsvarets Efterretningstjenestes arkiver er næsten tomme. Den pensionerede Kommandørkaptajn Jørgen Knudsen, tidligere afdelingsleder i FE, indkaldes til afhøring hos FE. Men fortæller han hele sandheden? Vi går tilbage i tiden. 1945. Krigen er forbi. Jørgen Knudsen har først været frihedskæmper, derefter i den hemmelige danske efterretningstjeneste i Stockholm. Men hvem er nu ven, og hvem fjende? Tilbage i Søværnets Efterretningssektion skal han snart finde ud af, at tyskerne kan blive til venner, og russerne og de danske kommunister til fjender. Tyskerne kan hjælpe genopretningen af den danske flåde med viden om ubåde og torpedoer. Et uformelt samarbejde med den spirende, hemmelige tyske efterretningstjeneste kommer i stand. Hans chef kan berolige MI6, kvinden er Kirsten Henriksen, underdirektør i et selskab, som tilhører Knudsens kone. Men chefen har sine særlige ideer om, hvad det kan føre til i forhold til den kommunistiske trussel. 1950. I et par år har efterretningstjenesten arbejdet med danske ”stay-behind” grupper, hvis Russerne skulle besætte landet, men nu siger en ny topchef fra. Det synes Jørgens chef og Jørgens yngre kollega Peter Larsen ikke om. Men de vil vel adlyde? Jørgen bliver sat på en umulig opgave, da hans chef opdager, at Russerne kender grupperne og deres skjulesteder. Jørgen, Peter og Kirsten mødes på en lille, øde havn ved Svanekes fyr for at finde en løsning. 1990. FE afslutter samtalerne med Jørgen Knudsen og skriver en kort rapport. Men hvem venter uden for porten? Nye afsløringer kommer frem under en frokost på Restaurant Lumskebugten.

This is the first systematic source which tries to explain how and why the 233-year old and the World's oldest merchant bank went into bankruptcy in a few days. It includes three parts with 10 chapters. Part I first describes what happened, then traces back the birth and historical glory of the Barings bank and family, and finally describes how it was sold to the Internationale Nederlanden Groep (ING). As many terms of financial derivatives are used in the first part, we try to provide an easy and systematic way to clarify the related financial derivatives products in Part II. This part first gives a general discussion of financial derivatives and a brief review of the historical development, growth, and magnitude of the financial derivatives markets. It then concentrates on futures and options in two chapters. Finally, we explain the hedging and speculating functions of financial derivatives and how they can be used in combination to achieve particular objectives. Part III provides necessary information on the Japanese financial markets and then analyzes how a single trader could have so much power as to bring about Barings fall. Finally, we try to provide the lessons from this event.
