The third volume in The Adriatic Islands Project, The work utilises, essentially, the same research methodologies developed for survey on Hvar and Brae. The continuing reliance of project staff on complex computer technologies to store and analyse the large project databases also remains, and the impact of the increasing sophistication of these technologies for display of data can be seen in this publication. This book, covering prehistory to medieval times, is divided into two parts, reflecting the diverse nature of the areas under study.

Multigrid Methods for Process Simulation

Multigrid Methods for Process Simulation

Wolfgang Joppich; Slobodan Mijalkovic

nidottu
It was about 1985 when both of the authors started their work using multigrid methods for process simulation problems. This happened in dependent from each other, with a completely different background and different intentions in mind. At this time, some important monographs appeared or have been in preparation. There are the three "classical" ones, from our point of view: the so-called "1984 Guide" [12J by Brandt, the "Multi-Grid Methods and Applications" [49J by Hackbusch and the so-called "Fundamentals" [132J by Stiiben and Trottenberg. Stiiben and Trottenberg in [132J state a "delayed acceptance, resent ments" with respect to multigrid algorithms. They complain: "Nevertheless, even today's situation is still unsatisfactory in several respects. If this is true for the development of standard methods, it applies all the more to the area of really difficult, complex applications." In spite of all the above mentioned publications and without ignoring important theoretical and practical improvements of multigrid, this situa tion has not yet changed dramatically. This statement is made under the condition that a numerical principle like multigrid is "accepted", if there exist "professional" programs for research and production purposes. "Professional" in this context stands for "solving complex technical prob lems in an industrial environment by a large community of users". Such a use demands not only for fast solution methods but also requires a high robustness with respect to the physical parameters of the problem.
Simplicial Complexes In Complex Systems: In Search For Alternatives

Simplicial Complexes In Complex Systems: In Search For Alternatives

For the last few decades researchers from different fields gather their findings and knowledge trying to give a shape to the new science of complex systems. To address this problem, new tools and methods have to be established. A new, or more precisely an alternative, framework for the characterization of complex system was proposed. In this book we will introduce the applicability of applicability of simplicial complexes in the science of complex systems. After introducing the main definitions and properties of simplicial complexes necessary for representation and analysis of complex systems, we will illustrate the usefulness and versatility of tools and concepts related to the simplicial complexes.
Eigenspaces of Graphs

Eigenspaces of Graphs

Dragos Cvetkovic; Peter Rowlinson; Slobodan Simic

Cambridge University Press

Current research on the spectral theory of finite graphs may be seen as part of a wider effort to forge closer links between algebra and combinatorics (in particular between linear algebra and graph theory). This book describes how this topic can be strengthened by exploiting properties of the eigenspaces of adjacency matrices associated with a graph. The extension of spectral techniques proceeds at three levels: using eigenvectors associated with an arbitrary labelling of graph vertices, using geometrical invariants of eigenspaces such as graph angles and main angles, and introducing certain kinds of canonical eigenvectors by means of star partitions and star bases. One objective is to describe graphs by algebraic means as far as possible, and the book discusses the Ulam reconstruction conjecture and the graph isomorphism problem in this context. Further problems of graph reconstruction and identification are used to illustrate the importance of graph angles and star partitions in relation to graph structure. Specialists in graph theory will welcome this treatment of important new research.
An Introduction to the Theory of Graph Spectra

An Introduction to the Theory of Graph Spectra

Dragoš Cvetkovic; Peter Rowlinson; Slobodan Simic

Cambridge University Press
2009
sidottu
This introductory text explores the theory of graph spectra: a topic with applications across a wide range of subjects, including computer science, quantum chemistry and electrical engineering. The spectra examined here are those of the adjacency matrix, the Seidel matrix, the Laplacian, the normalized Laplacian and the signless Laplacian of a finite simple graph. The underlying theme of the book is the relation between the eigenvalues and structure of a graph. Designed as an introductory text for graduate students, or anyone using the theory of graph spectra, this self-contained treatment assumes only a little knowledge of graph theory and linear algebra. The authors include many developments in the field which arise as a result of rapidly expanding interest in the area. Exercises, spectral data and proofs of required results are also provided. The end-of-chapter notes serve as a practical guide to the extensive bibliography of over 500 items.

Spectral Generalizations of Line Graphs

Spectral Generalizations of Line Graphs

Dragoš Cvetkovic; Rowlinson Peter; Slobodan Simic

Cambridge University Press
2004
pokkari
Line graphs have the property that their least eigenvalue is greater than or equal to –2, a property shared by generalized line graphs and a finite number of so-called exceptional graphs. This book deals with all these families of graphs in the context of their spectral properties. The authors discuss the three principal techniques that have been employed, namely 'forbidden subgraphs', 'root systems' and 'star complements'. They bring together the major results in the area, including the recent construction of all the maximal exceptional graphs. Technical descriptions of these graphs are included in the appendices, while the bibliography provides over 250 references. This will be an important resource for all researchers with an interest in algebraic graph theory.
Neutron Scattering By Ferroelectrics

Neutron Scattering By Ferroelectrics

This book presents the recent theoretical and experimental developments of neutron scattering by ferroelectrics. A Model description of lattice dynamics of structurally unstable crystals (self-consistent phonon approximation, pseudo-spin formalism, coherent potential approximation etc.) is formulated. The effects of nonlinear excitations and lattice defects in neutron scattering are also discussed.

2. dorađeno i prosireno izdanje knjige "Daleko je Sibir" --- Svi oni izleti, mini ture biciklom ni putovanja automobilom nisu mogli nadomjestiti ono pravo putovanje kakvim sam ga ja zamisljao.
