Ihmisen ääni oli WSOY:n kirjasarja, jossa ajan maineikkaat kirjailijat kuvasivat työtään ja elämäänsä. Kilven vuonna 1976 julkaistu teos on sarjan rehellisimpiä: kirjailija kuvaa siinä masentuneisuuttaan, yksinäisyyttään ja häviämisen tunnettaan hyytävän lakonisesti. Ihmisen ääntä kirjoittaessaan Kilpi oli 48-vuotias vanha sielu. ”Tunnustuksellista tekstiä on vaikea kirjoittaa olematta avoimesti itsekeskeinen.” Eeva Kilpi (s. 1928) on Espoossa asuva kirjailija ja runoilija. Hänen runsaasti käännettyyn tuotantoonsa kuuluu mm. romaaneja, novelli- ja runokokoelmia ja omaelämäkerrallinen trilogia. Yksi Kilven tunnetuimpia teoksia on Elämä edestakaisin (1964), jossa hän tarkastelee evakkoutta. Evakkokarjalaisuuden lisäksi Kilpi on tunnettu myös ihmissuhde- ja luontoaiheistaan. Hän on näyttänyt suuntaa seksuaalisuuden ja vanhenemisen kuvaajana. Hänet on palkittu monipuolisesta ja yhteiskunnallisesta tuotannostaan mm. SKS:n palkinnolla ja Pro Carelia -kunniamerkillä.

This book covers the period from the first arrival of European and American fur traders in Tlingit territory to the establishment of a permanent Russian presence in the Pacific Northwest.
