The Small German Courts in the Eighteenth Century
First published in English in 1958, this book charts the history of the small states which emerged in Germany from the chaos of the Thirty Years War. A period which has been neglected by English historians, this book covers both the German principalities generally and specifically a study of The Duchy of Württemberg and the County of Montbéliard. It builds up a world of eccentricity, documenting little-known facts about palaces and princes.

Selective Toxicity

Selective Toxicity

Adrien Albert

Chapman and Hall

This book is about selectively toxic agents. That is to say, it is about those substances that affect certain cells without harming others, even when they are close neighbours. Toxicity need not be fatal. It can be made easily reversible, as is the case with general anaesthetics. Selective toxicity covers an immense field: most of the drugs used for treating illness in man and his economic animals, as well as all of the fungicides, insecticides, and weed killers that are used in agriculture. Essentially, this book is a discussion of the physical and chemical means which contribute to selectivity, and this is the basis of molecular pharmacology. _Selective Toxicity began as a course of lectures that Professor F. G. Young encouraged me to give in University College London, in 1948 and again in 1949. The first edition appeared in 1951, as a very small book because little was then known about the factors that provide selectivity. Since those early days, the subject has undergone tremendous development. At first, industry was un receptive to the word 'toxicity', however qualified! Yet the market was being supplied with biologically powerful substances of which several had the potential to cause harm. This aspect was brought to light by two events of the early 1960s. The first of these was the discovery that a sedative, thalidomide, administered to expectant mothers, after what was then considered to be adequate testing, had caused permanent deformities in about 10000 children.

The novel "Tasting Droplets of the Unforgettable Rain" is a work of (" 'Adult']-Literary")-fiction by the author Adrien L. Montgomery. The novel presents the profile of an individual residing in the "Minneapolis"-urbanzone in the years 2003 and 2004. The work presents a dramatic tale of a man who strives to fulfill all aspects of the agenda he's chosen for himself to ultimately finalize as an individual requiring he complete all necessary stages in a philosophical perspective on "Self-Enlightenment"--a course of direction in life he trusts will ultimately lead him to a higher level of "Spirtual Wisdom." Over the course of the dramtatic presentation, the character exhibits to readers a unique compulsion to attain what he trusts will be a level of enlightenment which is, heretofore, unseen in the human world for any individual residing on earth. Readers will find delight in the character's daring actions as he attempts to fulfill all necessary aspects of the "Philosophical Perspective on 'Self-Enlightenment' " which he's striving to complete for himself while residing in the state of Minnesota in the years 2003 and 2004 in order to attain a higher level of "Spiritual Knowledge", which he will, then, choose to bestow upon others who approach him in order to obtain such a level of enlightenment for themselves in the world as well. The readers will also be amused by the rare comedic approach which the protagonist utilizes in his attmept to vividly portray the world around him as he leads the audience on hand through the voyage he's embarking upon towards what he trusts will ultimately amount to a higher level of "Spiritual Knowledge" for himself once he finalizes all necessary stages in the persepctive on "Self-Enlightenment" he earnestly strives to complete for himself.
The Failure of the United Nations Development Programs for Africa

The Failure of the United Nations Development Programs for Africa

Adrien M. Ratsimbaharison

This study attempts to explain why the two major United Nations (U.N.) development programs for Africa in the 1980s and 1990s, Unpaaerd and Unnadaf, failed to promote economic and social development. Additionally, this study systematically analyzes the two development programs and identifies the internal and external causes of their failure by focusing on the processes of their formulation, adoption, implementation and evaluation within the U.N. General Assembly and discussing their formation and implementation within the context of the late 20th century world economic order.
