Alexandra is a story set in a near future that is all-too-possible. Humans are changing the environment and ecology of the planet without thought to the consequences for the planet or human civilisation. Many civilisations have collapsed in the face of environmental change, and our current technology dependent society is also vulnerable despite the hubris of science and technology. The novel follows two young women who learn to cope in a world that changes completely in their lifetimes.

♥ A swoon-worthy nobleman with a dark past♥ A debutante with a flawless reputation♥ A compromising embrace♥ A close-knit, meddling family♥ Sweet Regency romance From New York Times bestselling author Lauren Royal and her daughter comes the first novel in their beloved Regency series featuring the "outrageously funny, loyal, and endearing" Chase family.Lady Alexandra Chase has always liked being the perfect daughter, thank you very much. Why would she bother chafing against society's restrictions when instead she could be basking in the warm glow of its approval? But when her brother's best friend-and secret obsession-returns from a long spell abroad, she begins losing interest in the suitable young lord she's expected to marry. Suddenly, family duty and a flawless reputation seem less important than the chance, however slight, that her girlhood crush might notice her now that she's all grown up...Tristan Nesbitt has done some growing up himself over the last few years, what with moving across oceans, inheriting a title, and facing a devastating scandal. But through it all, he's never forgotten the Chases, the closest thing he had to a family back in his school days. When his old friend Griffin Chase requests a favor, he's happy to oblige, as long as he can maintain enough distance from the family that his infamous past won't tarnish their good name. Unfortunately, one Chase seems intent on getting much closer to him than she should...PLEASE NOTE: This book is a SWEET & CLEAN ROMANCE. Alexandra: A History is a social and political history of one of South Africa's oldest townships. It begins with the founding of Alexandra as a freehold township in 1912 and traces its growth as a centre of black working-class life through the early years before the Nationalist government, through the struggles of the apartheid era and into the present day. Declared as a location for 'natives and coloureds', Alexandra became home to a diverse population where stand owners, tenants, squatters, hostel-dwellers, workers and migrants from every corner of the country converged to make a new life for themselves near the economic hub of Johannesburg. The stories of ordinary people are at the core of the township's history. Based on numerous life-history interviews with residents and previously unexamined archive sources, the book portrays in vivid detail the daily struggles and tribulations of the people of Alexandra. A significant focus is the rich history of political resistance, in which political organisations and civic movements organised bus boycotts, anti-removal and anti-pass campaigns, and mobilised for housing and a better life for the township's residents. But the book also tells the stories of daily life, of the making of urban cultures and of the infamous Spoilers and Msomi gangs. Over weekends Alexandra came alive as soccer matches, church services and shebeens vie for the attention of residents. Alexandra: A History highlights the social complexities of the township, which at times caused tension between different segments of the population. Above all else, despite a long history of hardship and adversity, the community spirit of the people of Alexandra, expressed in a fiercely loyal love of their township home, has repeatedly triumphed and endured.

Four very short stories about the everyday life of a little girl and her mum, by Ireland's first Children's Laureate. Alexandra’s adventures include changing her name, bedtime fears and a plaster disaster. In each story, Alexandra's mum helps her to learn about herself and the world by allowing her to make her own discoveries. These warm stories by Ireland’s first Children’s Laureate were originally broadcast on Ireland's state broadcaster, RTE, and are great for reading aloud to children. Gentle and lovely illustrations create a warm and loving atmosphere between Alexandra and her mum.

Tsarina Alexandra-hauntingly beautiful, melancholy, obsessed with the occult-was blamed by her contemporaries for the downfall of the Romanovs. But her true nature has eluded previous biographers. Using archival material unavailable before the fall of the Soviet Union, acclaimed historian Carolly Erickson's masterful study brings to life the full dimensions of the Empress's singular psychology: her childhood bereavement, her long struggle to marry Nicholas, the anguish of her pathological shyness, and her increasing dependence on a series of occult mentors, the most notorious of whom was Rasputin. With meticulous care, Erickson has crafted an intimate and richly detailed portrait of an enigmatic historical figure. Unfolding against the turbulent backdrop of Russian history in the last decades before the Revolution of 1917, this engrossing biography draws the reader in to Alexandra's isolated, increasingly troubled interior world. In these pages, the tsarina ceases to be a remote historical figure and becomes a character who lives and breathes. Intimate, rich in detail, carefully researched and informed by a generous imagination, Erickson's page-turning account of Alexandra and her times is a gem of biographical storytelling, as vivid and hard to put down as an enthralling novel.
