This volume offers up-to-date translations of all 21 epistles of Ovid’s Heroides. Each letter is accompanied by a preface explaining the mythological background, an essay offering critical remarks on the poem, and discussion of the heroine and her treatment elsewhere in Classical literature. Where relevant, reception in later literature, film, music and art, and feminist aspects of the myth are also covered. The book also contains an introduction covering Ovid's life and works, the Augustan background, the originality of the Heroides, dating, authenticity and reception. A useful glossary of characters mentioned in the Heroides concludes the book. This is a vital new resource for anyone studying the poetry of Ovid, Classical mythology or women in the ancient world.

The Life of a Dreamer: Transitioning from the Pit to the Palace. Remaining steadfast in adversity when what's in you intimidates those around you
God given dreams are more than simply images to casually dismiss as passing moments of inspiration. When the Lord provides revelation through dreams, it is as just as impactful as audible instruction. It is therefore imperative that a person understand when and how God is speaking or has spoken to them though dreams. Moreover, it is just as important to know what to do when He speaks this way. When God wants to show a person his purpose and plan for their life, He will sometimes reveal it to them in a dream. God often dealt with men of God and the prophets of old in the form of dreams. Joseph, Daniel and Ezekiel are just a few of the men whom God communicated with through dreams. Also, whenever there is a dream, there will always be an interpreter. When God gave Nebuchanezzar a dream, he already had Daniel in place. When he gave the Butler, the Baker, and Pharoah a dream, he already had Jospeh in place to reveal to them the interpretation. God is not interested in keeping men in the dark as it relates to their future and destiny, but wants their understanding to be fruitful.Life of a Dreamer empowers individuals to recognize divine dreams, understand the purpose of dreams, and to cultivate the truths dreams contain. Skillful and deliberate handling of God-given dreams, consistently manifests life-changing results, and shows forth the perfect will of God in a glorious fashion.

Behavioral Ecology of Tropical Birds, Second Edition provides the most updated and comprehensive review on the evolution of behavior in tropical landbirds. The book reviews gaps in our knowledge that were identified twenty years ago when the first edition was published, highlights recent discoveries that have filled those gaps, and identifies new areas in urgent need of study. It covers key topics, including timing of breeding, movement ecology, life history traits, slow vs. fast pace of life, mating systems, mate choice, territoriality, communication, biotic interactions, and conservation. Written by international experts on the behavior of tropical birds, the book explores why the tropics is a unique natural laboratory to study the evolution of bird behavior and why temperate zone species are so different. A recent surge of studies on tropical birds has helped to reduce the temperate zone bias that arose because most avian model species in behavioral ecology were adapted to northern temperate climates. This is an important resource for researchers, ecologists and conservationists who want to understand the rich and complex evolutionary history of avian behavior.

Health and social care professionals are constantly exhorted to work collaboratively. This book reports on research which examines interprofessional work with families in which mothers have a mental health problem and where there are also concerns about child protection. Breakdowns in interprofessional collaboration, issues of risk and relevant resources are all addressed. Mothers' views and experiences are contrasted with professional perspectives. Child protection and mental health services: · reports on a survey of 500 practitioners working in health, social services and the voluntary sector; · presents data from in-depth interviews with mothers with severe mental health problems; · identifies weaknesses in interprofessional coordination in this area of work; · suggests a new model for work with families where mental health problems and child protection concerns co-exist. All those involved in child protection or mental health work with families will find this book a stimulating read. This book will be of interest to practitioners, managers and policy makers as well as students studying health and social care.

EDUCATING PHYSICIANS The current blueprint for medical education in North America was drawn up in 1910 by Abraham Flexner in his report Medical Education in the United States and Canada. The basic features outlined by Flexner remain in place today. Yet with the past century's enormous societal changes, the practice of medicine and its scientific, pharmacological, and technological foundations have been transformed. Now medical education in the United States is at a crossroads: those who teach medical students and residents must choose whether to continue in the direction established over a hundred years ago or to take a fundamentally different course, guided by contemporary innovation and new understandings about how people learn. Emerging from an extensive study of physician education by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, Educating Physicians calls for a major overhaul of the present approach to preparing doctors for their careers. The text addresses major issues for the future of the field and takes a comprehensive look at the most pressing concerns in physician education today. The key findings of the study recommend four goals for medical education: standardization of learning outcomes and individualization of the learning process; integration of formal knowledge and clinical experience; development of habits of inquiry and innovation; and focus on professional identity formation. Like The Carnegie Foundation's revolutionizing Flexner Report of 1910, Educating Physicians is destined to change the way administrators and faculty in medical schools and programs prepare their physicians for the future.
