Carol, who tasted her first success in holding an audience in a high-school play, and Julia Gregg, a classmate as stage struck as herself, join Phyllis Marlowe's apprentice group in New York. In this setting, Carol beings to learn about herself as an actress. Phyllis Marlowe's criticism of her first performance is hard to take, but not half as painful as Mike Horodinsky's ruthless verdict. Mike is one member of the apprentice group whom Carol thoroughly dislikes. Their antagonism flames into open warfare when Mike almost succeeds in getting Carol away from the stage altogether. However, when the real test comes, these young students meet it with such ingenuity and perseverance that even Carol and Mike forget their differences in the common bond of the theater.

Fresh and eager from the success which she scored in her small parts at the Winasset summer theater, Carol Page comes down to Broadway determined to find a part. She is ready to take anything, even the lowliest walk-on, for her dander is up: her father has taunted her with the remark that she will "go bust in two months." The story of Carol's and Julia's adventures on Broadway and the story of what the theater grudgingly gives to them has the true ring, the warmth and the color, which the reader expects of a Helen Dore Boylston story. This book is perfect for every girl who ever dreamed of "going on the stage."

Carol's stage career enters a very exciting and interesting phase. It takes her out over the country on the hardest yet most colorful assignment of "show business." Carol goes "on tour." But not before the play in which she earned her first big part proved a smash hit on Broadway and she was on her way to losing her head from the resulting publicity. Her friends, Julia Gregg and caustic but devoted Mike the assistant producer, manage to prick the balloon for her and Carol comes down to earth solidly enough to accept a role in Miss Marlowe's production of The Merchant of Venice. It means more hard work and travel with no let-up from city to city as well as learning the new discipline of playing Shakespeare, but Carol accepts the challenge to develop her talent under the master playwright of them all. Carol's adventure in the theater is sure to inspire her readers to follow their dreams and reach their goals.

Carol's Fantastic Universe: Starships, Aliens, Other Dimensions And Science Fiction Concepts
AN ALL COLOR COLLECTION OF FUTURISTIC, UFO, FANTASY, HORROR AND SCI FI ART FROM THE COLLECTION OF CAROL ANN RODRIGUEZ . . . A FEW WORDS FROM THE PUBLISHER AND COLLEAGUE TIMOTHY GREEN BECKLEY For a brief period in the Seventies, I represented the publisher of "Peter Max's Paper Airplane Book". I always loved Peter's use of vibrant colors which often utilized a dazzling "psychedelic" patterns of stars. I personable perceive a similarity in the art of the very talented Carol Ann Rodriguez whose work we are privileged to be premiering in her first art collection. This is also our first full color book It is a book for ages and makes a perfect gift for fans of Sci Fi and the arcane. I have been fortunate to know Carol for many years. I first made her acquaintance through a mutual friend, Walli Elmlark, the "White Witch of New York." Carol was very much interested in the occult and UFOs - especially in anything related to outer space and alien beings. She attended many workshops and lectures at the New York School of Occult Arts and Sciences over which I presided. We hooked up to venture out into the world and traveled to the Yucatan to investigate the possibility of an ancient alien influence on the culture. Carol assisted greatly in the organization and the running of numerous conferences that I organized in several states. But above all else I was greatly impressed with the dedication and the many hours she put into developing her art work. A major portion of her energies went into the creation of colorful portraits of extraterrestrials, multi-dimensional beings and an occasional character right out of the pages of some horror classic. We used her work in our many publications - UFO Universe, Front Page Disasters, Angels and Aliens - you name it. The colors she uses are not duplicated by any other artist on the scene today. We consider it an honor to be able to publish this portfolio which is our first full color book. AND FROM THE ARTIST -- As a child I was always interested in the idea of space aliens, far distant worlds, time travel other dimensions and beings that are dreamed about, but we are told could not possibly exist. To me, the supernatural is very natural. Nothing is too fantastic to be envisaged. I can sometimes close my eyes and "imagine" a vast universe that to most people remains unseen, but to me I am right there among the stars. I hope I have helped others to see the invisible cosmos hidden all around us. My philosophy is that the main purpose of my art is to decorate a good story or to make a cover "come alive." I invite you to travel with me to far distant realms where we are free to believe in that which in our everyday lives is often said to be "unrealistic."

Since she was a child, the beautiful Carol Lynley graced television and movie screens from 1956 until 2002. She successfully progressed from child model, to teenage idol, to ingénue in such hit films as The Light in the Forest, Blue Denim, Return to Peyton Place, Sand Under the Yum Yum Tree. Then her cool beauty was put to perfect use as the bewildered blank-faced mother searching for a missing daughter who may or may not exist in the cult mystery thriller Bunny Lake Is Missing. This propelled Lynley to adult leads where she excelled playing the lady in peril culminating with her most famous role as terrified pop singer Nonnie in The Poseidon Adventure. Carol Lynley: Her Film & TV Career in Thrillers, Fantasy and Suspense highlights Carol's appearances in the titled genres. She has been terrorized on screen by everything from psychotic relatives to werewolves and the Blob, from murderous convicts to rampaging beasts and sinking upside down ocean liners. Most fans of these genres do not realize how prolific Carol was, going from theatrical features (The Shuttered Room, The Cat and the Canary, Blackout), to made-for-TV movies (The Immortal, The Night Stalker, Death Stalk), to television guest appearances (Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Invaders, Night Gallery, Fantasy Island, Tales of the Unexpected) and back again for over thirty years. Peppered with comments from Carol Lynley specifically for this book and past published sources, it also features fascinating behind-the-scenes tales from her co-workers including Arledge Armenaki, Stephan Chase, Matt Dotson, John Goff, Howard Kazanjian, Harry Langdon, Jr., Alan J. Levi, and Tina Sinatra. Tom Lisanti goes beyond The Poseidon Adventure to shine a light on Carol Lynley's underrated work in the thriller/fantasy/suspense/horror genres with this meticulously researched and well-illustrated tribute book.

Carol Bove presents new work by “sculpture’s woman of steel,” as coined by Randy Kennedy in The New York Times. Her new sculptures expand on her investigations of materiality and form.Characterized by compositions of various types of steel, Bove’s ongoing series of “collage sculptures,” begun in 2016, amalgamates theoretical and art-historical influences across time periods and disciplines. To create these lyrical and abstract assemblages, Bove pairs fabricated tubing that has been crushed and shaped at her studio with found metal scraps and a single highly polished disk. Luminous color is applied to parts of the composition, transforming the steel—more commonly associated with inflexibility and heft—into something that appears malleable and lightweight, like clay, fabric, or crinkled paper.Bove’s new works are smaller in scale and elaborate on the “collage sculptures,” with more complex forms that twist, fold, and bend into postures that belie their material construction. Bove manipulates steel to varying degrees, rendering gentle folds in some, and extreme, almost anthropomorphic contortions in others. Their contrasting textures—matte, glossy, or rough—create a further sense of visual play, heightening the surface tension throughout. The publication features a new interview with the artist by Johanna Burton. Published on the occasion of the artist’s solo exhibition at David Zwirner, Hong Kong in 2019, Carol Bove is available in both English only and bilingual English/traditional Chinese editions.

Carol Bove: Collage Sculptures presents an extensive look into the contemporary artist’s work over the past five years and her ongoing exploration of scale, color, material, and artistic traditions of the twentieth century. Bove’s recent work engages the conceptual concerns of mid-century sculpture, such as spontaneity, industrial materials, and the potential of painted sculpture. However, within this space of familiar sculptural traditions, Bove has discovered new approaches that lead to places previously unknown. Bove’s “collage sculptures” are created from scrap metal and stainless steel that has been carefully worked into sinuous forms and are frequently painted. Considering the hard rigidity of the steel, the works possess an appearance of almost impossible softness, as if steel could become as pliable as clay. Such works range from small pedestal sculptures to large, imposing compositions. Bove’s interest in scale and how a viewer’s understanding of an artwork shifts depending on its context are explored through a selection of small works from the collection of the Nasher Sculpture Sculpture. Published by the Nasher Sculpture Center, the catalogue features beautiful reproductions of Bove’s work and an introduction as well as an essay by curator Catherine Craft on the development of the collage sculptures and their relationship to other artists and traditions of modern sculpture. Also included is an essay by Lisa Le Feuvre that explores Bove’s complex work by means of a thematic alphabet related to the artist’s interests.

Carol Henning Steinbeck, writer John Steinbeck's first wife, was his creative anchor, the inspiration for his great work of the 1930s, culminating in The Grapes of Wrath. Meeting at Lake Tahoe in 1928, their attachment was immediate, their personalities meshing in creative synergy. Carol was unconventional, artistic, and compelling. In the formative years of Steinbeck's career, living in San Francisco, Pacific Grove, Los Gatos, and Monterey, their Modernist circle included Ed Ricketts, Joseph Campbell, and Lincoln Steffens. In many ways Carol's story is all too familiar: a creative and intelligent woman subsumes her own life and work into that of her husband. Together, they brought forth one of the enduring novels of the 20th century.

Carol, The Ancient Yuletide Troll is the first in a series of stories about Carol, a good troll who serves as a Santa figure for monsters. It introduces Carol, and explains how she became Santa’s helper for delivering toys to the monsters. When Carol sees that the other monsters don’t like her because she’s the only one who receives presents from Santa (as she is the only monster who is “nice”), Carol pays Santa a visit. Santa encourages Carol to be the one to help turn the monsters around and get them on his nice list too. Carol tries, but the other monsters just ignore her, inspiring her to take matters into her own hands. She begins secretly giving toys to the naughty monsters instead of continuing to try and turn them into nice ones. Despite her good intentions, will Carol’s actions go against Santa’s wishes and put her on the naughty list as well? This fun, original story will not only teach children the importance of good behavior, but will teach them a great lesson in friendship, kindness, and sharing. Carol, The Ancient Yuletide Troll shows children the true spirit of Christmas in a new way from a not-so-scary monster named Carol.
