The fourth edition of Constitutional and Administrative Law: Text with Materials provides students with a complete introduction to Public Law, covering all the core topics on LLB courses. With a wide selection of essential materials drawn from both legal and non-legal sources such as official publications, integrated with clear and lively commentary, this book serves as an invaluable portable library and reference source for students. Drawing from their considerable teaching experience across the UK and Europe, the authors recognise that the eccentric and complex nature of the UK's constitutional system can sometimes be inaccessible for students with little prior knowledge. The book therefore guides students through constitutional and administrative law within the context of its historical development and its current political environment, making effective use of topical events to explain the difficult underlying theoretical issues, without loosing the essence of the law in a welter of detail. Online Resource Centre The fourth edition is accompanied by a website that provides ongoing updates to judicial and legislative developments since the publication of the book, ensuring students are kept informed of the latest key legal developments. It also serves as a research portal, providing a wealth of links to useful websites and materials available online.

As a first baseman and then manager of the legendary Kansas City Monarchs, O'Neil witnessed the heyday of the Negro leagues and their ultimate demise. In I Was Right on Time, he charmingly recalls his days as a ballplayer and as an African-American in a racially divided country. Whether he's telling of his barnstorming days with the likes of Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson or the day in 1962 when he became the first African-American coach in the major leagues, O'Neil takes us on a trip not only through baseball's past but through America's as well.

Discovering American Regionalism

Discovering American Regionalism

Regions are difficult to govern – coordinating policies across local jurisdictional boundaries in the absence of a formal regional government gives rise to enormous challenges. Yet some degree of coordination is almost always essential for local governments to effectively fulfill their responsibilities to their citizens. State and local governments have, over time, awkwardly, and with much experimenting, developed common approaches to regional governance. In this revolutionary new book, authors David Miller and Jen Nelles offer a new way to conceptualize those common approaches: Regional Intergovernmental Organizations (RIGOs) that bring together local governments to coordinate policies across jurisdictional boundaries.RIGOs are not governments themselves, but as Miller and Nelles demonstrate, they do have a measure of political authority that allows them to quietly and sometimes almost invisibly work to further regional interests and mitigate cross-boundary irritations. Providing a new conceptual framework for understanding how regional decision-making has emerged in the U.S., this book will provoke a new and rich era of discussion about American regionalism in theory and practice. Discovering American Regionalism will be a future classic in the study of intergovernmental relations, regionalism, and cross-boundary collaboration.

Innovation is central to business success, yet no other aspect of business is as frustrating and out of control. Instead of occurring in fits and starts and strokes of genius, innovation needs to become an all-the-time event that‘s measurable, reliable, predictable, streamlined, and effective. Structured innovation is a key goal for every organization whereby they more effectively meet the needs of customers and operate more efficiently. Insourcing Innovation demonstrates how to transform business using the theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ) along with applicable tools and techniques. Providing a practical framework, this book presents the tactical and strategic aspects of TRIZ, its methodology, and its components. Real-world case studies illustrate how TRIZ can be applied in an organization. It also discusses how structured innovation is part of total performance excellence, examining key aspects of business excellence and how they are related.
