This is a biography of Elvis's top 290 comic moments. The King of rock and roll is for the first time revealed as the King of humor. Girls, guns, guitars, morgues, one-way mirrors, fleets of gifts, duping the U.S. President, chimpanzee sex, charade assassins, and water pistol fights are the deepest insights into the real Elvis. Presley had a thoughtful, comprehensive sense of humor, as detailed in the first chapter 'The Psychology of Elvis' Humor'. The best comic moments of his life follow. What Others Say about Elvis Presley's Humor: -"I wish we had a full-length documentary of the way we all carried on at these locations. It would be a heck of a comedy." - Sonny West (bodyguard) -"Elvis, as much as anybody I've ever known in my life, loved to laugh. His whole life was built around trying to find humor in things." - Ronnie Tutt (drummer) -"Whether it was a whoopee cushion placed on one of the guy's chairs or dried red peppers poured on someone's eggs, there was always a prank ready to be played." - Peggy Lipton (model, girlfriend) -"Elvis was an impulsive guy. And when you mix impulse, temper, and pills, you're going to have some interesting situations." - Marty Lacker (Memphis Mafia) -"Elvis had no parameters. He moved the lines of behavior wherever he wanted them and if he went too far, he moved them out farther." - Lamar Fike (stage lighting, MM)

“Outstanding pop-culture history.” —NewsdayThe “smart and zippy account” (The Wall Street Journal) of how Las Vegas saved Elvis and Elvis saved Las Vegas in the greatest musical comeback of all time. Elvis’s 1969 opening night in Vegas was his first time back on a live stage in more than eight years. His career had gone sour—bad movies, mediocre pop songs that no longer made the charts—and he’d been dismissed by most critics as over-the-hill. But in Vegas he played the biggest showroom in the biggest hotel in the city, drawing more people for his four-week engagement than any other show in Vegas history. His performance got rave reviews; “Suspicious Minds,” the song he introduced there, gave him his first number-one hit in seven years; and Elvis became Vegas’s biggest star. Over the next seven years, he performed more than 600 shows there, and sold out every one. Las Vegas was changed, too. By the end of the ‘60s, Vegas’ golden age—when the Rat Pack led a glittering array of stars who made it the premier live-entertainment centre—was losing its lustre. Elvis created a new kind of Vegas show: an over-the-top, rock-concert extravaganza. He set a new bar for Vegas performers, with the biggest salary, the biggest musical production, and the biggest promotion campaign the city had ever seen. He opened the door to a new generation of pop/rock artists and brought a new audience to Vegas—that Vegas depends on for its success to this day.

A Classic Rock book of 2020"I had to leave town for a little while--" with these words, Elvis Presley truly came home to rock and roll. A little over a month earlier he had staged rock’s first and greatest comeback in a television program, forever known as "The ’68 Comeback Special." With this show, he resurrected himself--at the age of 33, no less--from the ashes of a career mired in bad movies and soundtracks. So where to go from here?Like a killer returning to the scene of the crime, Elvis came back home to Memphis, where it had all begun. Eschewing the fancier studios of Nashville and Hollywood, he set up shop at the ramshackle American Sound Studio, run by a maverick named Chips Moman with an in-house backing band now known as "The Memphis Boys," and made the music of his life. The resulting work, From Elvis in Memphis, would be the finest studio album of his career, an explosion of mature confidence and fiery inspiration. It was the sound of Elvis establishing himself as a true rock and roll artist--and proving his status as a legend.

ELVIS IS BACK...AND FIGHTING CRIMEFrom J.R. Rain, the international #1 bestselling author of over ninety novels, comes the epic standalone mystery noir that asks the question: What if Elvis faked his death? It's tough being the King.Which is why in 1977 Elvis faked his own death and endured massive facial reconstruction surgery, and disappeared from the limelight to live a normal life as the unassuming Aaron King. Unfortunately, leaving fame behind also meant leaving his fortune behind, too, and now Elvis finds himself broke and living in near poverty in a small apartment in Los Angeles. Luckily for him, it turns out he's a pretty good private investigator. Now in his seventies and contemplating a return to music (discreetly, of course), Elvis is hired to solve a baffling missing person case. The King digs deeper, and soon finds himself surrounded by the seedier elements of Los Angeles, from nefarious Hollywood producers who prey upon the young, to twin brothers with a very dark secret. And as Elvis pieces the bizarre puzzle together, he slowly makes his singing comeback-and will be reunited on stage with someone even the King himself never dreamed possible. For fans of Robert B. Parker, Robert Crais, and Sue Grafton Elvis Has Not Left the Building is a standalone mystery thriller with over 100,000 copies sold and counting The #1 bestseller in Mystery, Private Investigations, and Hard-Boiled Fiction ★★★★★ "Imagining that Elvis faked his own death, lives as a PI in Los Angeles, and is tortured by not knowing his daughter is a fantastic premise for a book. Having grown up on Elvis movies and music, I loved the idea that the King still lives. Rain tells the tale beautifully, sets up a mystery expertly and is as fun to read as Elvis was to watch. Even if you never heard of Elvis and live in a cave in Siberia, you'll be thoroughly entertained by Elvis Has Not Left the Building. I'm hoping this is a series..." ―Amazon reviewer★★★★★ "Loved it This is definitely a crazy good 'can't-put-down-until-your-finished' kind of book I absolutely adored this book If you haven't read this, it's a must If your not already a fan of J.R Rain, he's a must, too Everything Mr. Rain writes has me turning pages and not accomplishing much until I'm finished No spoilers here... but I will say it's a super fun story Well worth it " ―Amazon reviewer★★★★★ "Elvis Lives As an Elvis fan, I loved this quirky book... just to imagine Elvis reappearing after thirty years as an incognito Private Detective is a blast I think that the author captured Elvis's personality and was able to 'write him' into this fun plot. If you love Elvis, you will get a kick out of this book." ―Amazon reviewer★★★★★ "The premise is that Elvis is not dead, but alive and with a surgically altered appearance, has become a private investigator. While it seems quirky, it really works, and is a fun part of the story. I enjoyed this read, and would buy it again " ―Amazon reviewer★★★★★ "When I started to read this book I had no idea I would get so hooked. I read it in two days and loved it. The idea that Elvis is alive and working as a private investigator is mind blowing. The ending was very touching and I loved it. J.R. Rain is an incredible writer and I enjoy reading all his novels." ―Amazon reviewer★★★★★ "Let it rain J.R. Rain that is I recently discovered this fabulous author and can't stop reading his books They are smartly written and have a great slice of humor. I can't wait to read everything J.R. Rain puts out " ―Amazon reviewer
Elvis in Vegas: How the King Reinvented the Las Vegas Show
The story of how Las Vegas saved Elvis and Elvis saved Las Vegas in the greatest musical comeback of all time. The conventional wisdom is that Las Vegas is what destroyed Elvis Presley, launching him on a downward spiral of drugs, boredom, erratic stage behavior, and eventually his fatal overdose. But in Elvis in Vegas, Richard Zoglin takes an alternate view, arguing that Vegas is where the King of Rock and Roll resurrected his career, reinvented himself as a performer, and created the most exciting show in Vegas history. Elvis's 1969 opening night in Vegas was his first time back on a live stage in more than eight years. His career had gone sour--bad movies, and mediocre pop songs that no longer made the charts. He'd been dismissed by most critics as over the hill. But in Vegas he played the biggest showroom in the biggest hotel in the city, drawing more people for his four-week engagement than any other show in Vegas history. His performance got rave reviews, "Suspicious Minds" gave him his first number-one hit in seven years, and Elvis became Vegas's biggest star. Over the next seven years, he performed more than 600 shows there, and sold out every one. Las Vegas was changed too. The intimate night-club-style shows of the Rat Pack, who made Vegas the nation's premier live-entertainment center in the 1950s and '60s, catered largely to well-heeled older gamblers. Elvis brought a new kind of experience: an over-the-top, rock-concert-like extravaganza. He set a new bar for Vegas performers, with the biggest salary, the biggest musical production, and the biggest promotion campaign the city had ever seen. In doing so, he opened the door to a new generation of pop/rock performers, and brought a new audience to Vegas--a mass audience from Middle America that Vegas depends on for its success to this day. A classic comeback tale set against the backdrop of Las Vegas's golden age, Richard Zoglin's Elvis in Vegas is a feel-good story for the ages.

Hundreds of books have been written on the life and career of Elvis Presley. When he began writing "Elvis in Arkansas," author Joe Walker set about focusing on the historical Elvis and his dozens of trips across Arkansas from those earliest days to a visit just months before Presley's untimely death."Elvis in Arkansas" offers a fresh perspective on those early days when Elvis and his band mates, Scotty Moore and Bill Black first ventured west out of Memphis with the trio crisscrossing the Ark-La-Tex, performing in hundreds of shows across Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. And when they weren't playing a show in Arkansas, they were driving back and forth across the state weekly, sometimes eating at a local diner, or visiting friends they had made along the way. You'll read the stories from those who were there, not realizing they were witnessing the birth of Rock 'n Roll. For them, they were witnessing something, they just weren't sure what. Among the stories you'll read: -The night Elvis' original pink Cadillac burned alongside an Arkansas highway.-The Arkansas gymnasium floor that collapsed while Elvis was performing.-Elvis' fear of flying caused by his plane nearly crashing over western Arkansas. -Elvis being inducted into an Arkansas college fraternity.-Elvis singing before a crowd of only thirty-four people at an Arkansas show. -Elvis' attempt at purchasing a 11,000 acre duck hunting farming operation in Arkansas.-The auto accident where the authorities wouldn't take his check because they had no idea who Elvis Presley was."Elvis in Arkansas" is a one of a kind Arkansas perspective on the birth of Rock 'n' Roll. This is not just another Elvis book.
Elvis: Behind The Legend: Startling Truths About The King Of Rock And Roll's Life, Loves, Films And Music
It's time to look at Elvis Presley from the inside out. Elvis: Behind The Legend uncovers stunning secrets about The King of Rock and Roll's life, loves, films and music. Elvis: Behind The Legend is a collection of over 30 succinct articles revealing surprising facts and discoveries about The King - some light-hearted and fun, and some striking at the core of Presley's heart and passions. With topics covering the full span of Presley's life, it also explores some of the myths in the Elvis legend. Elvis: Behind The Legend explores the inner motivations and desires of the man crowned The King of Rock and Roll, and reveals how Presley's success actually conflicted with many of his own personal passions. Elvis Presley's public image as The King of Rock and Roll was constantly at war with his inner desires: the rock and roll revolutionary who wanted to be a mainstream pop star, the teen heartthrob who wanted to be a serious actor, the defiant rebel who dutifully served in the military, the sex god who released religious gospel records and the anti-establishment symbol who proudly shook hands with President Nixon. Similar to Bob Dylan, Presley was ultimately assigned a title and image that he never aspired to. While Dylan abruptly left the musical genre of folk music that made him famous to freely pursue his other musical passions, Presley was never allowed to escape his rock and roll image. Many rock and roll fans wondered why Elvis had changed so much over the years and some even criticized him for it. Elvis was forever compared to his 1950s image of sex, defiance and rebellion which in many ways led him to be misunderstood. Startling revelations about Elvis Presley include: His hidden speech impedimentHow he truly felt about rock and rollThe famous outfit Elvis hated to wearHow Elvis learned to bump and grindWhy serving in the army terrified himHow Elvis launched his career by accidentThe woman who stood between Elvis and PriscillaWhat his ultimate ambition in show business really wasWhy he sang with a professed hater of rock and rollWhy Elvis was willing to give up his careerThe acclaimed Elvis film that was surprisingly a flopWhat really happened when Elvis met The BeatlesThe tragic backstory to Jailhouse RockWhy Elvis never attended any of his movie premieresThe real reason Elvis went to meet President NixonHow Elvis designed his own gravesiteWho was bigger - Elvis or The Beatles? Plus, for the first time in print, a complete list of Elvis Presley's movies ranked by box office earnings and the full list of Elvis Presley's and The Beatles' certified record sales (albums, singles and EPs). The book includes an 8-page photo section. By looking beneath the surface, this book gives music fans an insight into The King of Rock and Roll like never before.

Out of the millions of photos contained in the U.S. National Archives, the image of President Richard M. Nixon and Elvis Presley shaking hands in the Oval Office in Washington D.C., on Dec. 21, 1970, is the single most-requested. The meeting between Presley and Nixon may not be significant as political history, nor did it benefit the president. It's certainly interesting as cultural history in the sense that it captures a moment of early 1970s America, as the country was so taken with the changes being wrought by the counterculture. Here was Elvis, who used to be such a hero to young people, having aligned himself with the Nixon White House on the side of the squares. Presley got what he wanted - a special assistant's badge, now in Graceland's archives. It was an important moment in his life. I'm not sure how much humor he would find in that or not.
