Flint is proud of his flame. He can toast the best marshmallows But one morning, his fire disappears. How can he be a dragon without it? Determined to find answers, Flint sets off on an adventure. Along the way, he meets a squirrel with a crooked leg and a mole afraid of the dark. Together, they discover that being different doesn't mean being less. Through teamwork, bravery, and kindness, Flint learns that true strength isn't about fire-it's about heart. Perfect for ages 4-7, Flint the Fireless Dragon is a gentle, uplifting picture book that reminds children that we don't need to be like everyone else to shine.

'A comic masterpiece' Patrick Gale, GuardianPillar of society and stern upholder of Victorian values, god-fearing Norfolk merchant John Barnard presides over a large and largely unhappy family. This is their story - his brandy-swilling wife, their hapless offspring and their changing fortunes - over the decades. Sylvia Townsend Warner's last novel, The Flint Anchor gloriously overturns our ideas of history, family and storytelling itself.'A novel created with solidity and subtlety of feeling, a fusion of warmth, wit and quietly biting shrewdness that are reminiscent of Jane Austen' Atlantic Review'As a sustained work of historical imagination, it has few rivals ... one of the most acute and intelligent writers of her age' Claire Harman
Mizzis Horrocks' class of seven year olds is about to perform their nativity play at Flint Street Junior School for the proud mums and dads - and the occasional social worker. Squabbles arise when Gabriel wants to play Mary, the Star grumbles he's not a proper star like they have at NASA, Herod won't stop waving to his mum and dad and the subversive Innkeeper is determined to liven up the traditional script. And then the stick insect escapes...The children are played by adults, who later play their parents so the set changes to reflect the difference in scale. This warm, witty play is an ideal alternative to the usual Christmas fare with original lyrics set to the tunes of Christmas carols.
Fenicus Flint, a gold dragon, is frustrated by life in Berathor Valley; not only does his personal tormentor harass him on a daily basis, but it appears as though his parents have forgotten all about his 109th hatching day celebration. While these trivialities feel like an unbearable weight bearing down upon the young dragon, they are nothing compared to the turmoil and responsibility that are soon thrust upon him. After Fenicus awakens from a terrible accident that leaves him injured and unable to fly, he limps home to find Berathor in ruins and deserted. His only clues to the fate of his kin are a trail of dragon and human footprints and a silver ring. Fearful of being the last of his kind, Fenicus reluctantly abandons the comfort of his homeland to seek out his loved ones and those responsible for their disappearance. Along the way, Fenicus finds companionship in the unlikely forms of both a humpback whale and a young boy whom help him when life is at its bleakest. But can the redemptive heart of a tormented wizard and the gift of a magical amulet help Fenicus save his fading race from the clutches of a blood-thirsty warlord? This updated edition includes a sneak preview of book two of the Blood Curse Legacy, Fenicus Flint & the Dawn of Ragnarok.
Between the Nebraska border and Osage County, Oklahoma, are the Flint Hills of Kansas, and growing on those hills the last of the tallgrass prairie that once ranged from Canada to Texas, and on those fields of bluestem, cattle graze - and tending the cattle, someone like Jim Hoy, whose people have ranched there from, well, not quite time immemorial, but pretty darn close.Hoy has always called the Flint Hills home and over the decades he has made a study of them - their tough terrain and quiet beauty, their distinctive folk life and cattle culture - and marshaled his observations to bring the Flint Hills home to readers in a singular way. These essays are Hoy's Flint Hills, combining family lore and anecdotes of ranching life with reflections on the region's rich history and nature. Whether it's weaning calves or shoeing horses, checking in on a local legend or a night of high school basketball in nearby Cassoday, encountering a coyote or a badger or surveying what's happened to the tallgrass prairie over time, summoning cowboy traditions or parsing the place's plant life or rock formations, he has something to say - and you can bet it's well worth hearing. With his keen eye, understated wit, and store of knowledge, Hoy makes his Flint Hills come alive, and in the telling, live on.
Although much has been written about Neolithic enclosures and long mounds, there has been little discussion about the third form of early monument - the flint mine. Drawing on nineteenth-century antiquarian investigations, unpublished excavation archives and recent fieldwork and excavation, Miles Russell has produced the first full account of the subject.

"Chancy Flint" tells the story of a twelve-year-old boy who is suddenly forced to accept adult responsibilities in Civil War era Kentucky. His mother is kidnapped by an evil Shawnee war chief. His father sets out to rescue her, leaving Chancy to care for his five-year-old brother, the family farm, and all the animals. Chancy faces many challenges at which most grown-ups would cringe. But we see him grow up straight and strong, tempered by adversity, not defeated by it.
Chancy Flint: Cowboy is the second in a series of five novels following the life of a young man from age twelve into his thirties. Chancy becomes a cowboy who is good with horses, cattle, and guns. Honest, courageous, hard-working and loyal, Chancy is a man to ride the river with. Right after the Civil War Chancy and his partners ride into South Texas and round up and brand over 3,000 unbranded mavericks and 365 horses. They then drive the herd up the Shawnee Trail to the railhead at Sedalia, Missouri. Along the way, they must deal with violent weather, floods, stampedes, hostile Indians, and rustlers. Chancy faces life's challenges with courage and resourcefulness. Over the five novels we watch him grow up straight and strong, tempered by adversity, not defeated by it.
