Business Excellence and Total Quality Management (TQM) models provide a means of measuring the satisfaction of customers, employees and shareholders simultaneously. A number of such models currently exist, but, the author argues, none of these address all dimensions of TQM. This book introduces the principles of TQM, and establishes their use in measuring Business Excellence in an organisational environment. It comparatively evaluates various TQM and Business Excellence models, and discusses the complexities of measuring success. Presenting important, innovative work by one of the most eminent scholars in the field, this book is essential reading for both academics and professionals working in quality management.

Japan began to fascinate the West after the account of Marco Polo's sojourn in China. This set off an interest in the oriental world. The Portuguese, being the first, arrived in Japan in 1543 which was followed by others. The experience Japan had with Europeans put upon itself isolation for about 200 years. After the forceful opening by Mathew Perry in 1853, many Westerners again began to arrive in Japan. Later during the 1980s, there was an influx of migrant workers which become a hot topic of debate. The book throws much light onto the historical background as well as the events that lead up to the present state of affairs in relation to issues of discrimination, crimes and problems related to foreigners.
The spatial and material dimensions of communication have changed dramatically over the past three millennia in South India. The historical and contemporary trajectories of these changes are revealed, explored, documented, critiqued and examined in this work. This book is comprehensive in its engagements with three locations—spatiality, materiality and communication, in the contexts of Tamil Nadu, South India. The book takes a multidisciplinary approach to communication and media studies. It leverages the multifaceted knowledge seeking spirit of the ancient philosophers of Tamil Nadu for understanding the contexts of spatialities, materialities and communication. Across four sections on historical trajectories, everyday lives, public communication and media materialities, its 20 chapters on diverse topics offer unique engagements of the spatial journeys of people, rulers, philosophers, men, women, as well as their material objects, occupations and media during the past three millennia in South India, with a focus on Tamil Nadu.
Multiprocessor Execution of Logic Programs addresses the problem of efficient implementation of logic programming languages, specifically Prolog, on multiprocessor architectures. The approaches and implementations developed attempt to take full advantage of sequential implementation technology developed for Prolog (such as the WAM) while exploiting all forms of control parallelism present in logic programs, namely, or-parallelism, independent and-parallelism and dependent and-parallelism. Coverage includes a thorough survey of parallel implementation techniques and parallel systems developed for Prolog. Multiprocessor Execution of Logic Programs is recommended for people implementing parallel logic programming systems, parallel symbolic systems, parallel AI systems, and parallel theorem proving systems. It will also be useful to people who wish to learn about the implementation of parallel logic programming systems.
The Fourth Edition of Dr. Gopal B. Saha’s Physics and Radiobiology of Nuclear Medicine was prompted by the need to provide up-to-date information to keep pace with the perpetual growth and improvement in the instrumentation and techniques employed in nuclear medicine since the last edition published in 2006. Like previous editions, the book is intended for radiology and nuclear medicine residents to prepare for the American Board of Nuclear Medicine, American Board of Radiology, and American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine examinations, all of which require a strong physics background. Additionally, the book will serve as a textbook on nuclear medicine physics for nuclear medicine technologists taking the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board examination. The Fourth Edition includes new or expanded sections and information for:* PET/MR, including the attenuation correction method and its quality control tests;* accreditation of nuclear medicine and PET facilities;* solid state digital cameras;* time of flight and scatter correction techniques;* CT scanners and attenuation correction in SPECT/CT;* partial volume effects;* quality control of CT scanners;* ion chamber survey meters, proportional counters, and G-M counters.
One-eyed Men is a sequel to the author's earlier novel, Dasaratha's Son, which dealt with Raghu's personal life. The current novel describes his rise and fall in the corporate world of opportunities, challenges and intrigues. From being the number two in a medium-sized plant in a small town, Raghu is catapulted to the position of the Corporate Planner in a Multinational. Soon, he is made the CEO of the largest manufacturing unit of the company in India. The trials and vicissitudes undergone by an honest and naive Raghu in the hands of unscrupulous politicians and self-seeking officials, to which he ultimately succumbs, form the rest of the story. The cultural shock of an orthodox Tamil Brahmin, with a traditional value system, while coming into contact with a 'dog-eat-dog' corporate world, is vividly illustrated in the novel. It also describes the typical rituals, beliefs, practices and procedures adopted in such companies and gives a bird's eye view of the functioning of the various arms of a large company, often working at cross purposes. The novel makes an interesting study of the qualities required to rise to the top in any organization and explores the paths of a few talented persons among the mediocre lot. Some eventually become kings while a few do get lynched on the way. Written in a forceful and racy style, full of wit and sarcasm, it shows the ultimate triumph of values over expediency. This is a work of fiction. Arasu Industries Limited, Tiruchi, Universal Power Products (India) Inc, New Delhi, Boilers and Pressure Vessels Limited, Shiva Nagar, Chennai and Shiva Nagar itself exist only in imagination. Names of a few public figures appearing in the novel and specific dates ascribed to some of the news items unconnected to the story are, however, real. If any character or incident or date gives the reader a feeling of d j -vu, then it speaks of the realism in the novel.
