These are the stories that represent a bond between father and son that even death couldn't break. They are stories of a form of after-death communication that helped me survive and cope with the death of my only son. Losing a child is a traumatic experience that is unnatural in the order of things and something you never "get over," you just learn to cope.

You don’t have to outrun the bear … you just have to outrun the other guy. Often in business we only have to run a bit faster than our competitors to be successful. The same is true in risk management. While we would always like to anticipate and prevent risk from happening, when risk events do occur being faster, flexible, and more responsive than others can make a world of difference. Supply Chain Risk Management: An Emerging Discipline gives you the tools and expertise to do just that. While the focus of the book is on how you can react better and faster than the others, the text also helps you understand how to prevent certain risks from happening in the first place. The authors detail a risk management framework that helps you reduce the costs associated with risk, protect your brand and reputation, ensure positive financial outcomes, and develop visible, predictable, resilient, and sustainable supply chains. They provide access to a cloud-based, end-to-end supply chain risk assessment "Heat Map" that illustrates the maturity of the chain through the various stages. It should not come as a surprise to anyone that the world is a riskier place than it was just 15 years ago. A survey used to calculate the Allianz Risk Barometer recently concluded for the first time that supply chain risk is now the top concern of global insurance providers. For most organizations this new reality requires major adjustments, some of which will not be easy. This book helps you understand the emerging discipline called supply chain risk management. It explains the relevant concepts, supplies a wide variety of tools and approaches to help your organization stay ahead of its competitors, and takes a look at future directions in risk management—all in a clear, concise presentation that gives you practical advice and helps you develop actionable strategies.

Has your life ever felt out of balance? Has it ever seemed to you that society is imbalanced, with racial and economic disparities unfairly affecting people's lives-and maybe even your own? More importantly, in the face of these inequalities, where can you turn for answers and solutions? In 50/50: Finding Life's Balance for All Human Beings, author Gregory L. Doctor explores the history of social inequality and oppression, sharing his own story and showing you how to discover that there is something more to your life. God has a message for you, and by listening to this valuable lesson, you can learn how to be your brother's keeper and live powerfully and in balance. The key is to embrace the fifty-fifty rule: be a well-informed learner for one part of your life, but become a knowledgeable teacher for the other half. By blending the two together, you can live a completely balanced life and be in a position to help someone younger live a complete and balanced life too.

The Geometry of Minkowski Spacetime

The Geometry of Minkowski Spacetime

This book offers a presentation of the special theory of relativity that is mathematically rigorous and yet spells out in considerable detail the physical significance of the mathematics. It treats, in addition to the usual menu of topics one is accustomed to finding in introductions to special relativity, a wide variety of results of more contemporary origin. These include Zeeman’s characterization of the causal automorphisms of Minkowski spacetime, the Penrose theorem on the apparent shape of a relativistically moving sphere, a detailed introduction to the theory of spinors, a Petrov-type classification of electromagnetic fields in both tensor and spinor form, a topology for Minkowski spacetime whose homeomorphism group is essentially the Lorentz group, and a careful discussion of Dirac’s famous Scissors Problem and its relation to the notion of a two-valued representation of the Lorentz group. This second edition includes a new chapter on the de Sitter universe which is intended to serve two purposes. The first is to provide a gentle prologue to the steps one must take to move beyond special relativity and adapt to the presence of gravitational fields that cannot be considered negligible. The second is to understand some of the basic features of a model of the empty universe that differs markedly from Minkowski spacetime, but may be recommended by recent astronomical observations suggesting that the expansion of our own universe is accelerating rather than slowing down. The treatment presumes only a knowledge of linear algebra in the first three chapters, a bit of real analysis in the fourth and, in two appendices, some elementary point-set topology. The first edition of the book received the 1993 CHOICE award for Outstanding Academic Title. Reviews of first edition: “… a valuable contribution to the pedagogical literature which will be enjoyed by all who delight in precise mathematics andphysics.” (American Mathematical Society, 1993) “Where many physics texts explain physical phenomena by means of mathematical models, here a rigorous and detailed mathematical development is accompanied by precise physical interpretations.” (CHOICE, 1993) “… his talent in choosing the most significant results and ordering them within the book can’t be denied. The reading of the book is, really, a pleasure.” (Dutch Mathematical Society, 1993)

Who has the highest single season average in American League history? Napoleon Lajoie Who had a major league baseball team named after him? Napoleon Lajoie Who received more Hall of Fame votes than the immortal pitcher Cy Young? Napoleon Lajoie Napoleon who? As fire engines roared and whistles blew, the city poured onto the street to get a glimpse of their "Poli." the man they knew was the greatest baseball player on the planet. When Napoleon Lajoie came home to the small industrial city of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, the delirious city was prepared to show its love for its champion. No devotion burned stronger that day in 1910 that that of the young boy envisioning himself as Napoleon Lajoie doing battle with spitballer Big Ed Walsh. Thirty years later, the boy would travel to baseball's first Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cooperstown. If most had come to cheer for Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Connie Mack, he had come to honor the emperor who had captured his imagination of so many years ago. Before the Babe, the Emperor: Napoleon Lajoie is a youth coffee table book with a plot, a mix of baseball history and memorabilia, driven by the universal tale of a young boy who refuses to abandon the hero who still reigns in his heart.
