All profits from this international anthology of poetry published by Bennison Books will go to The Book Bus, a charity which aims to improve child literacy rates in Africa, Asia and South America by providing children with books and the inspiration to read them. Published and previously unpublished poets from around the world have contributed to this anthology including the award-winning Carol Rumens, who also wrote the foreword. In total, the work of about 40 poets from a number of different countries worldwide is featured in this anthology. They include the Forward Prize finalist, Beverley Bie Brahic; the inaugural winner of the John Knight Memorial Poetry Manuscript Prize, Vanessa Kirkpatrick; and winner of the Seamus Heaney Centre Prize, Katharine Towers, who was also shortlisted for the Ted Hughes Award. The poets have donated their poetry free of charge so that all profits will go to The Book Bus. The following is an extract from Carol Rumens' foreword: The title of this anthology, Indra's Net, was suggested by one of its poets, the late Cynthia Jobin. She explained: "Indra's net is a metaphor for universal interconnectedness. It's as old as ancient Sanskrit and as 'today' as speculative scientific cosmology. It's what came to mind when thinking about nets and webs and interconnectedness ... and jewels and poems." There are many ways in which the metaphor suits the anthology. It's a book filled with poetic gems, of course, the work of a happy mixture of new and well-known writers, including prizewinning poets like Beverley Bie Brahic and Katharine Towers. The poems connect: poems always do. The poets may have shared their work and reached their global readership via the Internet. And then there's the most important net of all, described by Wallace Stevens as "The magnificent cause of being, / The imagination, the one reality/ In this imagined world ..." Historically, international student mobility has followed South-North and North-North patterns. However, recent literature show the growth in North-South and South-South patterns of student mobility. There has also been a rise in regional mobility. In what is referred to in the book as intra-Africa mobility, the books explores and analyzes the patterns of intra-Africa mobility based on seven African countries: South Africa, Kenya,Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal and Egypt. The editors and contributors addressthree central research questions: Why did the students choose the country they are studying in? Why did they choose the institution they are studying in? What are their academic and social experiences in these countries and their respective institutions? This book is the first comprehensive exploration of intra-Africa student mobility in a field that traditionally centers on the Global North.

This volume offers several empirical, methodological, and theoretical approaches to the study of observable variation within individuals on various linguistic levels. With a focus on German varieties, the chapters provide answers on the following questions (inter alia):Which linguistic and extra-linguistic factors explain intra-individual variation? Is there observable intra-individual variation that cannot be explained by linguistic and extra-linguistic factors? Can group-level results be generalised to individual language usage and vice versa? Is intra-individual variation indicative of actual patterns of language change? How can intra-individual variation be examined in historical data?Consequently, the various theoretical, methodological and empirical approaches in this volume offer a better understanding of the meaning of intra-individual variation for patterns of language development, language variation and change.The inter- and transdisciplinary nature of the volume is an exciting new frontier, and the results of the studies in this book provide a wealth of new findings as well as challenges to some of the existing findings and assumptions regarding the nature of intra-individual variation.
Der Band stellt zur Diskussion, ob der auf Friedrich Carl von Savigny zurückgehende und auch heute noch immer weitgehend unverändert Anwendung findende Methodenkanon der Gesetzesauslegung weiterhin zeitgemäß ist oder ob dieser nicht um Erkenntnisse aus anderen Disziplinen bzw. aus den rechtswissenschaftlichen Grundlagenfächern erweitert werden kann und sollte. Denn auf der Suche nach dem Verständnis einer Rechtsnorm werden zumeist nur der Wortlaut, die Gesetzessystematik, die Umstände der Entstehung einer Norm sowie ihr - mutmaßlicher - Sinn und Zweck betrachtet. Dies mag aus heutiger Sicht für die Rechtsanwendung insofern unzureichend scheinen, als neuere Ansätze und Erkenntnisse aus rechtswissenschaftlichen Grundlagenfächern wie auch aus anderen wissenschaftlichen Disziplinen keine oder nur sehr unzureichende Berücksichtigung finden. Aber auch losgelöst von den Canones gibt es innerhalb des Rechtsanwendungsprozesses diverse Einbruchstellen für jene Erkenntnisse, wie die einzelnen Beiträge des Bandes mit ihren unterschiedlichen Zugriffen auf die Thematik verdeutlichen.
