Anglicanism In Australia

Anglicanism In Australia

Kaye Bruce

Melbourne University Press
1998
pokkari
Anglicanism in Australia is an important contribution to our social history. Its authors have moved beyond biography and histories of individual congregations to create a broad, complex, layered history. They assess Anglicanism's contribution to Australian social, political and cultural life. The book begins with a fascinating and thoroughly researched narrative account - which moves from the arrival with the First Fleet of an Anglican military chaplain, right through to the 1990s. Along the way it charts the nineteenth-century church buffeted by the pendulum swings of 'state aid'; the nationalistic fervour of wartime, and the political radicalism of the 1960s. In its second half, Anglicanism in Australia looks at Anglicans dealing with a broad spectrum of issues: the family, questions of gender, Indigenous peoples, the visual arts, the search for a national identity.
Tools for Complex Projects

Tools for Complex Projects

Traditional project management approaches assume that project contexts are unchanging and key factors, though complicated, are reducible to unambiguous elements for management and control. Whilst this assumption has simplified the task for writers and educators, it is increasingly being recognised that these techniques do not work in projects which may be described as complex (due to their size, technical difficulties, conflicting environmental and political constraints or poorly understood or shared goals). Tools for Complex Projects draws on research in the areas of project management, complexity theory and systems thinking to provide a ready reference for understanding and managing the increasing complexity of projects and programmes. The main part of the book provides a series of fourteen project tools. Some of these tools may be used at the level of the whole project life-cycle. Others may be applied ad hoc at any time. In each case, the authors provide: detailed guidelines for using the tool, information on its purpose and the types of complexity for which it is most appropriate, the theoretical background to the tool, a practical example of its use, and any necessary words of caution. This is an example of advanced project management at work; sophisticated tools that require a level of project and management expertise and offer rigorous and highly practical methods for understanding, structuring and managing the most complex of projects.

Love and humanity triumph amid the atrocities of World War II. In the final months of World War II, Sam Ryan takes his place as a new soldier in the 89th Infantry Division on the front lines in Europe. He's trained to kill but struggles with the thought of taking the life of another human being, a contradiction with the way he was raised. How, he wonders, will he ever reconcile the action his head dictates with the way his heart feels about it? On the other side of the war, Gerda Ziegler's heart aches over the monster her beloved Germany has become. But she confronts the Nazi soldiers who guard the Jewish-only sector in Zwickau and is appalled to learn that a Jewish baby will be killed because of a large birthmark. Can she manage to whisk the child away right under the noses of the brutal Nazis? Sam and Gerda face their enemies head-on, but they also battle internal elements on their own sides of the fighting that violate their shared values of humanity. They meet under the worst of circumstances but find a way to help each other through the trauma of war.

Kid Bytes goal is to spring children with mental disorders ahead to better lives.Dr. K and her godmother, Ann Berger, have come up with a companion piece for all parents and teachers. A Little Red Schoolhouse exposes that the same-old, same-old chatter about ADHD, EDD, OCD, Aspergers, sexual abuse, Bi-polar, and autism really does matter. Oddly, Kid Bytes was conceived during a reception after a "Living with Cancer; a Message of Hope" presentation by Fred Siverman, narrated by Anne Bancroft. During the informal chatter over designer coffee, Dr. K's ache to spread hope for sexually abused six-year-old Kelly and her classmates surfaced, then incubated when she began e-mailing her daily class notes to Ann half a country away. Dr. K's passion for teaching, spiced with her sense of fun, is fueled by the children's innate capacity for finding joy in their various afflictions. The evident affinity shared by the co-authors indicates Ann's retirement has been embellished with a newfound compassion.

We each long to belong in our world. We experience belonging when we know who we are, why we are here, and how we are to live. Yet how can we experience belonging in a world which is characterized by the phrase, "all is not well?" Daily the news media portrays graphic images of circumstances which cause pain, fear, sorrow, and anger among people across the globe. Because all is not well, the Call of our era is toward social change. Significant social change requires a change in our identity. Why? Because our identity determines our purpose. Our purpose determines our values system. Our values system shapes the way we live within and act upon our world. Therefore, the deeper spiritual Call of the era is one of recasting our human way of being in the world. How can we generate such personal and collective inner change? In response, this little book of big ideas offers principles and practices for changing our personal and collective identity, with particular emphasis on the Western cultural identity.
