A school walkathon A visit from Popo Six-year-old Ava's week has SUPER potential--with just a few snags along the way--in this spot-on third adventure in Vicky Fang's warm, funny chapter book series. Ava Lin is in first grade, and she's really good at dancing, making up games, and finding treasure. This week she's super-duper excited, because it's going to be the BEST WEEK EVER. First, her popo--Chinese for grandmother--is coming to visit, and Ava can't wait to show off the special acorn, button, Post-it note, hair clip, and inside part of a marker that she found on the school playground. And second, this Sunday is the school walkathon. If Ava and her best friend, Kushi, manage to walk twenty-five laps, they will each earn a gold medal But the week doesn't go exactly to plan--like when Popo mistakes Ava's treasures for trash, or when Ava discovers that fundraising for a walkathon is not quite as easy as she had hoped. Is there a way to make this week a super-duper happy one regardless?

Brand-new first grader Ava Lin is determined to find a best friend--even if she's a bit unclear on how to go about it--in this launch of a funny, super relatable chapter-book series. Ava Lin is six and a half years old, and she loves bubble tea, finding treasures, and animals (note the 117 varieties of pets on her wish list). She's very good at drawing and balancing pasta on her nose. And there's a Very Exciting Thing happening in her life right now: tomorrow is her first day of first grade Which means she gets a new backpack, new pencils, and a new lunch box. But what she really wants to get in first grade is a best friend, which isn't as easy as she thought. Ava's quest has her navigating some confusing social rules, with unintentionally comical results--but she always manages to wriggle out of her mishaps in ways young readers will find very familiar. With an engaging text, humorous graphic panels, and black-and-white illustrations, Vicky Fang draws on her Chinese American family's experience to create a heroine kids will instantly love.

Ava Lin's quest to earn the most kindness tickets in her first-grade class--and claim a coveted reward--leads to unanticipated results in this second chapter book in Vicky Fang's funny and heartfelt series. Ava Lin is six and a half years old, and this year she's in first grade. She's really good at making things and eating snacks and making lists. But what she really wants to be good at is earning enough tickets to fill her kindness bucket. In Ava's class, if you do something kind for someone, that person puts a ticket in your bucket, and whoever has the most tickets by the end of the week gets to choose a prize. Ava really wants to choose the narwhal eraser--she NEEDS that eraser--so she has to be sure she's the best bucket filler of the week, no matter what. But if you're doing nice things just so you can pile up tickets, is that the same as being kind to others? Especially if you manage to hurt your best friend's feelings along the way? With graphic panels and charming black-and-white illustrations, Vicky Fang brings back a lovable, sometimes bumbling heroine who wins the prize for heart and humor.

Lin’s richly tactile installation meditates on the upheavals of 2020, drawing on complex material histories and speculative multispecies narratives This book chronicles the creation of a newly commissioned body of work by Los Angeles–based artist Candice Lin (born 1979) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lin often investigates the legacies of colonialism by tracing the material histories of goods that circulated within global trade routes. For her Walker Art Center and Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts project, the artist brings together hand-dyed indigo textiles, plaster sculptures to be touched by visitors, large-scale ceramics partially inspired by Chinese tomb guardians and a hallucinogenic video featuring dancing cats and spam texts. Taken together, this multipart installation addresses the anxiety, isolation, fear and anger of this tragic year of pandemic and social upheaval, emphasizing touch, intimacy and a collective questioning of our precarious present and future. Texts explore Lin’s innovative use of materials and mediums and the theoretical frameworks that animate her art. A fully illustrated plates section documents the artist’s process of research, making and installation, and an annotated selection of Lin’s major past exhibitions provides important context for works made over the last decade.

Out Of My Church Hurt Came Ministry is a book of hurt but yet hope, discouragement but yet encouragement, not to tear down but to build up, helplessness but yet of hopefulness. "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is being done now, the saving of many lives (Gen.50:20, NIV)." This book is not to discredit God, it is to acknowledge that hurt happens in the church, it happened Kennedy Lin and it continues to happen even now. It was difficult for Kennedy Lin to understand the purpose of all the hurt, betrayal and disappointments she endured while in the church and with church people. She understands it now. She now knows, what the elders meant when they said, "You'll understand it all, after while by and by." Real revelation came when Kennedy Lin began to figure out why she was so different, why she didn't fit in with others, and why so many of whom she thought would be constant in her life was not. She realized the hurt and pain she experienced was all for her making (purpose, destiny, gifting, calling, and for ministry: KENNEDY LIN MINISTRIES). God knew she would tell the truth without prejudice or biases but with love for God and his people. Kennedy Lin believes strength come through trials and trials builds testimonies. WE ARE OVERCOMERS BY THE WORD OF OUR TESTIMONIES (Rev.12:11)Every person who has "gone through" CHURCH HURT know YOU ARE BETTER FOR IT NOW
