The first study of one of the most innovative of contemporary novelists, Liz Jensen, and of the "otherworlds" in her fiction. Liz Jensen, a British author of eight novels, is among today's most innovative writers. Her literary thrillers occupy the terrain between realism and science fiction. This first study of Jensen centers on the very diverse "otherworlds" she creates in each of her novels, which can consist of an indeterminate space of ontological instability, a zone in which real and unreal converge to destabilize the realist text, as in Egg Dancing (1995) and TheNinth Life of Louis Drax (2004). In other novels the otherworld relies on defamiliarization: thus in War Crimes for the Home (2002) the experience of war is transformed by being seen from a woman's perspective. In stillother cases, the otherworld spans the novel's entire topos, as in The Paper Eater (2000), the full-blown utopia at the center of Jensen's oeuvre. Jensen's work approaches contemporary social issues such as religious fundamentalism, ecological disaster, and assisted procreation. Simultaneously, it displays a number of characteristics of erudite fiction, including self-reflexivity, inter- and intratextual reference, parody, pastiche, and burlesque. Notwithstanding the "popular" elements of Jensen's work, Helen E. Mundler's study adopts a rigorously academic approach to it, referencing canonical works but also more innovative texts, particularly by contemporary women writers, as points of comparison. Helen E. Mundler is Senior Lecturer in English Studies at UPEC (Université Paris-Est Créteil) with a research affiliation at the Université Paris-X Nanterre-La Défense.

"Entangled," a stand-alone novella, concludes the battle of good vs. evil that permeated the series of "Daddy's Girl," "Pretty Little Girl" and "The Baby Thief." "Entangled" will reveal answers to questions raised in the earlier books (available in e-Book, print or audio book formats, as well as in Portugese and Spanish versions). "Daddy's Girl" tells how and why Armen Bedrosian, a pedophile, originates the story. For 20 years he sexually abused his teenaged daughter in this a prequel of good vs. evil. When Armen's 13-year-old daughter is kidnapped, she repays her ransom debt to daddy with daily sexual submissions. She later abandons the now Alzheimer's disease-afflicted father at a county fair. Detective Liz Roberts conducts an investigation to locate the daughter, and by doing so discovers long-lost secrets of her own past. "The Baby Thief" examines an OB/GYN that many considered a saint. But Liz Roberts exposes her as an intriguing monster who sells pregnant girls' babies. This series of intertwining leaves, includes an illegal love affair that results in murder. One reviewer wrote "The story is so gripping that I couldn't even stop reading to eat or sleep."

Liz Sutherland grew up with literally no identity. She has no memory of the first few years of her life, other than the jarring experience of being dropped off at a stranger's house when she was a child. She and her siblings lived with their "grandmother," who abused and mistreated the children every single day. When she finally escaped that life, Liz was thrust into the foster care system. The day she turned eighteen, she was put out on her own.Her book, No Ordinary Liz, chronicles her journey through foster care and beyond as she struggled to find her way in the world and discover her true identity. Along the way, this far-from-ordinary woman found out her birth story was more complex than she had ever imagined, filled with twists and turns that brought her through an incredible journey towards unraveling her past. This book, both memoir and guidebook, is designed to offer hope for those in and out of the foster care system, as well as support and resources for agencies, youth aging out of foster care, and foster parents.
