When his wife was diagnosed with TMJ (temporomandibular joint) problems and needed surgery, the oral surgeon told Randy Wilson that his wife would need to eat soft foods for six months. The author took this as a challenge and developed 200 meals that were soft, appealing and nutritious. The self-published version of the book sold 33,000 copies. It has been endorsed by oral surgeons, exhibited at conventions of the National Oral Surgeons, the American Dental Association, and the Registered Dietitians Association. Many medical professionals use the book in their daily practice, and the author now wants to reach a larger audience. The book contains helpful hints, a foreword by an oral surgeon, and a chapter by a registered dietitian. It is spiral bound so it will lie flat while you are cooking. It is not a liquid diet book, nor is it a blender cookbook. The recipes all have nutritional analyses. The book offers new and creative ways to prepare food for the person on a soft food diet. The rest of the family will also enjoy these recipes.

The Dying Beatitude, Book One of The DiCaro Family Saga, focuses on one of the most pressing problems America faces today, the crises within the healthcare delivery system.John DiCaro, an immigrant baker and family patriarch, the first of four generations, came to America with vivid memories of death and suffering as a boy in Italy. With the impossible dream of becoming a doctor himself, he transfers that dream to his only son, John Jr., now a typical, traditional 'family doctor' during the mid-twentieth century. The untimely death of Susan, his wife, sets the stage for the intensification of existing personality aberrations in their youngest child, five-year-old Tommy. This third generation of the DiCaro family; the sons and daughter of Dr. John and Susan DiCaro, each take a different path in life, but all play a crucial role in shaping the future of medicine in America as it exists today. Oldest son Johnny becomes a physician and joins his father's practice. Middle child Maria-a state's attorney and later, a U.S. Congresswoman-is obsessed by the plight of the elderly who in turn refer to her as 'the senior citizens' Joan of Arc'. Youngest son, the troubled Tommy, chooses a role which will dramatically impact healthcare; quietly and anonymously assisting HHS in achieving its ever increasing control of healthcare policy and enforcement in America. His marriage to the daughter of a powerful U.S. Senator broadens his base of power and insures his rise to higher levels of control, while maintaining the faceless and invisible form of an omnipotent bureaucrat. ... the oncoming headlights exploded into her eyes like two bright stars with blinding vertical and horizontal lines. The sheer panic lasted only a moment. Realizing the oncoming vehicle was in her lane, coming straight at her, Susan instinctively pulled the steering wheel hard to the right. But it was too late. The red pickup never changed course, hitting the DiCaro car head-on. Susan's hideous screams of disbelief and pain were dampened by the tearing, screeching sound of metal consuming metal. Join author Dr. Wilson as he travels with four generations of this Italian-American family while it reaps the bounty of John DiCaro Sr., the baker. Witness the good and the bad of medical practice, politics and federal bureaucracy from the 1950s to the early twenty-first century.Dr. Wilson is a retired family physician who lives with his wife Marilyn, RN, MSW, in Florida.

Anglican Chant and Chanting in England, Scotland, and America, 1660-1820
This book presents, for the first time, a history of English liturgical chant as performed in the Church of England and its transmission to churches in Scotland and the United States. In the mid-sixteenth century Reformation, the complex ritual of the Latin rite was replaced by a one-volume Book of Common Prayer in English. The general nature of the new rubrics, expecially for music, left many of the details of performance to be worked out in traditional ways. Thus the music evolved from its Latin roots in oral, and later written practice. The body of music that makes up the chanting practice of Anglican and related churches around the world is indeed diversified. Some texts of the liturgy are harmonized in four or more voice parts, often with organ accompaniment, and others are sung in plainsong. The largest group of chants, those for the psalms and canticles, has an idiosyncratic written form and a performance practice that continues to evolve in oral tradition. This music is commonly known as Anglican chant. Its origins in the seventeenth century and its codification in the eighteenth are explored in the choral establishments of the Church of England and parish churches in England, Scotland, and the United States.
The Policy of the Entente

The Policy of the Entente

Wilson Keith M.

Cambridge University Press
1985
sidottu
This collection of essays makes a major contribution to the growing debate on British foreign policy before the First World War, and mounts a sustained critique of the received interpretation that invites comparison with the work of Fritz Fischer on the foreign policy of Imperial Germany. The Policy of the Entente presents a realistic assessment of British priorities in the years before 1914, and considers the fundamental and conflicting pressures that determined the formulation of foreign policy. The author concludes that British policy, far from being increasingly Eurocentric, was emphatically imperial: indeed many of the difficulties faced by Britain's rulers stemmed from their inability to live up to this Imperial self-image.

J.M.W Turner: The 'Wilson' Sketchbook
A beautifully produced, pocket-sized near-facsimile edition of J.M.W. Turner's illuminating 'Wilson' sketchbook. Turner's sketchbooks were private things which he kept to himself. They might live for some time in his coat pockets or travel bags, to be pulled out as need arose. In the studio, they served as memory banks for future work. Of the nearly three hundred sketchbooks in Turner's house at the time of his death and now in the care of the Clore Gallery, the little book here reproduced is one of the most delightful and fascinating. It marks an important stage in the development of Turner's practice as a draughtsman and was in use when he was only twenty-one years old. It is a working notebook in which the pressing demands of an increasingly fertile imagination are given expression as it forges a new language for itself: a language that was radically to affect the history of both water-colour and oil painting in the romantic period and long afterwards. Originally marked with 'Copies of Wilson' on the cover, this charming little book is a testimony to the phase of student hood in Turner's development, Richard Wilson being the supreme exponent of landscape painting in the eighteenth-century in Britain. For Turner, whose lifelong ambition was to show the world that landscape paintings could be a vehicle for the noblest and most ideas, Wilson was, as this book shows, his hero and chief model. This edition of the sketchbook reproduces all these beautiful drawings and watercolours in facsimile, with an illustrated introduction by Turner expert Andrew Wilton discussing their background and impact.

Wilson Fitzpatrick will tell you he isn't a Martin Luther King. You can tell he admires what Rosa Parks did by simply not giving up her bus seat, but Wilson says he is no civil rights activist. In fact, Wilson may be a reluctant civil rights activist, but make no mistake, by leading with humility and example, he promoted equality for African Americans in the smallest of rural settings. This is the journey of Wilson Fitzpatrick. It begins in Kansas City, Kansas where he was born during the depression. He had strong parents, but Marshall did not give equal rights to African Americans. In order to get an education, he had to board a bus for a 30 mile ride to an all-black high school. His athletic skills gave him opportunities in the Air Force and at the University of Nebraska. He found that Papillion was not ready for a black coach, but he found acceptance in the small, rural community of Lewiston. His journey continues to this day. Listen to the stories his grateful students tell. All these years later, they still celebrate this outstanding educator and civil rights activist.
