O mel tem sido amplamente utilizado como agente de cura ao longo da hist ria humana, para al m da sua utiliza o generalizada como alimento popular. O mel uma subst ncia doce produzida como fonte de alimento principalmente a partir do n ctar e das secre es das plantas pelas abelhas mel feras. Na presente investiga o, a atividade antimicrobiana de tr s amostras diferentes de mel, nomeadamente o mel de Kombu, o mel de Malan e o mel comercial, foi avaliada contra bact rias patog nicas (Staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus luteus, Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Salmonella typhi, Shigella flexneri, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa e Acetobacter baumani). As amostras de mel natural e comercial seleccionadas para o presente estudo foram recolhidas em Chetheri Malai, Harur, Tamil Nadu, ndia. O mel de Kombu, o mel de Malan e o mel comercial apresentaram uma zona de inibi o m xima contra Staphylococcus aureus. Em conclus o, o mel de Kombu apresentou uma maior atividade antimicrobiana contra agentes patog nicos bacterianos quando comparado com o mel de Malan e o mel comercial.
