Polling at a Crossroads

Polling at a Crossroads

Survey research is in a state of crisis. People have become less willing to respond to polls and recent misses in critical elections have undermined the field's credibility. Pollsters have developed many tools for dealing with the new environment, an increasing number of which rely on risky opt-in samples. Virtually all of these tools require that respondents in each demographic category are a representative sample of all people in each demographic category, something that is unlikely to be reliably true. Polling at a Crossroads moves beyond such strong limitations, providing tools that work even when survey respondents are unrepresentative in complex ways. This book provides case studies that show how to avoid underestimating Trump support and how conventional polls exaggerate partisan differences. This book also helps us think in clear and sometimes counterintuitive ways and points toward simple, low-cost changes that can better address contemporary polling challenges.

Throughout the case study, the author offers tested and proven practices and tips so that these human flaws are not translated into drug product flaws. These practices and tips are critical and typically can only be learned through years of experience working in competitive drug development environments. A History of a cGMP Medical Event Investigation is ideal for students in biotechnology, pharmacology, engineering, and business management as well as professionals in biomedical and drug development. All readers will discover what can go wrong in developing and bringing a new drug to market. With the increasing concern over rural livelihoods and the food security of poor communities in developing countries, it is vital that land quality is maintained. Yet, land degradation is widespread and is lowering the productive capacity of the land in these countries. This practical handbook presents simple, non-technical indicators for assessing land degradation in the field. Based on the perspective of the farmer, the methods selected lend meaning to real farming situations, helping the field professional to understand not only the impact of degradation but also the benefits to be gained from reversing it. The handbook shows how to calculate indicators such as those of soil loss, explains the interpretation of results and in particular how combinations of different indicators can give conclusive evidence of the severity of land degradation. The focus of the book is firmly on understanding the farmer‘s interaction with the land, and how environmental protection, food security and the well-being of rural land users may be assured. With detailed figures, photographs, worked examples and sample forms based on assessment techniques validated by field professionals in Africa, Asia and Latin America, this will be an essential training manual will be invaluable for field-workers in NGOs and in governmental and educational institutions. It will also be of interest to researchers and academics in development, environment and agriculture.

This book is a compilation of thoughts, beliefs, and philosophies of an older writer; experienced, no longer trying to discover but rather trying to refine who he is. Educational degrees, professional endeavors, and life experiences are in place. His many failures and successes have been analyzed. He has plenty of time to write. Being older, however, he does wonder if he is becoming a curmudgeon, unwilling to bend, not wanting to change, not willing to learn anything new. The author's words create a document that is at the same time provocative and endearing.
