***The GATT/WTO system has been founded on the fundamental principle of non- discrimation. However, the system has also allowed exceptional cases to this principle through several arrangements. ***The leading examples of these cases are Regional Integration Agreements (RIAs).The concept of regionalization, is associated with the development of the institutional conditions for the shift of goods and production between countries. ***In the center of the regionalization process there is a function of integration groups, which currently are of great importance in the world economy. ***The number, size, and degree of relationships between countries which participate in integration agreements make it an important phenomenon and unique feature of the current phase of globalizationThere are also many different attitudes on the relationship between globalization and regionalism (integration). Some join them, other contradict. ***Regionalism and globalization mutually support themselves in the sense that regionalism is often the stage of globalization.Regionalization may indeed by stimulating the local markets and by creating a competitive environment in the region enhance microeconomic forces necessary for responding to the needs of globalization. However, there are important integration features for the defense against globalization as a process of differentiating and marginalizing some societies. ***In the case of integration we can count on a better protection against volatility of financial markets and against monetary crisis.

****The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), or the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS or DAISH/DAESH in Arabic), is a militant group that has called itself the Islamic State. ****A terrorist group, as designated by Security Council under Resolution 2170, it has become synonymous with extreme violence directed against civilians and captured fighters. ****The Islamic State, known as ISIS, exploded into the public eye in 2014 with startling speed and shocking brutality. It has captured the imagination of the global jihadist movement, attracting recruits in unprecedented numbers and wreaking bloody destruction with a sadistic glee that has alienated even the hardcore terrorists of its parent organization, al Qaeda. *****Now let's make two things clear: ISIL is not "Islamic." No religion condones the killing of innocents. And the vast majority of ISIL's victims have been Muslim. And ISIL is certainly not a state. It was formerly al Qaeda's affiliate in Iraq, and has taken advantage of sectarian strife and Syria's civil war to gain territory on both sides of the Iraq-Syrian border. ****You can't understand ISIS if you don't know the history of Wahhabism in Saudi Arabia....For their guiding principles, the leaders of the Islamic State...are open and clear about their almost exclusive commitment to the Wahhabi movement of Sunni Islam. The group circulates images of Wahhabi religious textbooks from Saudi Arabia in the schools it controls.

The Jewish intellectual tradition has a long and complex history that has resulted in significant and influential works of scholarship. In this book, the authors suggest that there is a series of common principles that can be extracted from the Jewish intellectual tradition that have broad, even life-changing, implications for individual and societal achievement. These principles include respect for tradition while encouraging independent, often disruptive thinking; a precise system of logical reasoning in pursuit of the truth; universal education continuing through adulthood; and living a purposeful life. The main objective of this book is to understand the historical development of these principles and to demonstrate how applying them judiciously can lead to greater intellectual productivity, a more fulfilling existence, and a more advanced society. The application of these principles to daily life can make a real and profound difference in education, productivity, and personal happiness.

Did the Romans survey the lands that they conquered? This study puts forward evidence in support of the idea that geometric patterns can be discerned in the angles of road alignments and the position of forts and towns to suggest that the Romans surveyed Britain shortly after the invasion. With lots of maps and diagrams, Ferrar and Richardson combine cartography, history and mathematics to argue for the use of surveying and centuration in Britain, going on to suggest how and why this was carried out. Detailed examinations of the geometric landscape of The Mickle Ditch in Manchester, and of the Antonine and Hadrian's Wall are included.

The House of Mystery radio show has been on the air for ten years, broadcasting in over a dozen cities in the United States, including KKNW 1150 A.M. Seattle/Tacoma, and KCAA 106.5 F.M. Los Angeles - 102.3 F.M. Riverside - 1050 A.M. Palm Springs. I started the show to find out as much information on the world's mysteries in fields like Crime, Science, Religion, History, Paranormal, and more. Like most people, the stories and rumors I've heard, books I've read, or documentaries I've watched would seldom provide one direct answer to a question. Throughout my time recording interviews, I would seek out people who had researched a subject enough to have written a book, developed a documentary, or were involved in the event or topic enough to have the knowledge I was seeking. The strange thing I found was that in most cases, there was a popular or mainstream idea of what happened or was reported at the time of the event. But then most of the favorite writers who had books or shows about the event often disagreed with the current theory. They would go as far as to accuse the media of faking the story and hiding the truth from everyone. An example would be the JFK Assassination. There is a common theory reported by different government agencies and news media that most people in America accept as the truth. However, ever since the release of the original Warren Report on the assassination, hundreds of opposing theories have been promoted by authors and researchers. In this series, each volume focuses on one of the conspiracies discussed on the show. Each book lays out the case details, reviews the official reports, and then follows up with each of the alternative theories presented during the interviews with the person or people reporting on them. There will be no committed answer at the end of the book. The House of Mystery Interviews series does not attempt to solve the case. Instead, it provides a concise review of the crucial and fascinating points learned during the show's interviews. The book is an excellent reference for other researchers and a good overview for those unfamiliar with the case.In Volume 1 of the series, the focus is on the infamous Jack the Ripper, or Whitechapel murders from 1888 in London, England. We have interviewed well over 20 authors/researchers of the Whitechapel Murders on the show. The guests found in this book represent a particular type of research in the case. Some are Suspect Researchers (i.e., those having a specific suspect they believe is responsible for the killings). Their work lays out all the information supporting their theories. We had researchers who took a more scientific approach, as is the case with Michael Hawley, and then others who provided a list of all the suspects and the main elements of why each one was a suspect Also included in this book is what I refer to as "Spectacle Books" written about the case. For INTRODUCTION instance, the theory that the American H.H. Holmes was Jack the Ripper after a distant relative made the accusation; and the theory surrounding Catherine Eddowes's shawl, which some researchers claim to have Jack the Ripper's DNA on it. Discussion about the essential question concerning the actual number of victims is also included. Were there only five? We also include a researcher who examined the crime scenes and recounted their opinion of the murders.

Volume 3 of the Interview Series, "Zodiac Killer," covers another serial killer who has stayed in the spotlight for years after their case has gone cold. It's been over 40 years now, and fascination with the Zodiac is still going strong. Experts passionately debate Zodiac suspects, Zodiac''s letters/ciphers, opinions, and theories. Even which murder victims to include in the case is widely debated. The House of Mystery Radioshow has been on the air for ten years, broadcasting in over a dozen cities in the U.S. It started as a way to interview guests knowledgeable in many of the world's mysteries involving crime, science, religion, history, paranormal, conspiracies, etc. The House of Mystery Interview series is a curated collection of interviews from the show. Each volume focuses on one of the mysteries, providing the background and reproducing the main points discussed in the interviews. There will be no committed answer at the end, as the Interviews series does not attempt to solve the case. Instead, it provides the most compelling aspects of each theory held by different experts. This series is an excellent reference for researchers and a good overview for those unfamiliar with the case. Online links to the actual interviews are included. The diverse mix of authors interviewed includes cryptologist and cipher expert David Oranchak, authors who propose their suspects are already convicted serial killers, authors who claim the Zodiac was their father, authors who offer new or already considered suspects, and an author who argues the Zodiac killer didn't exist at all and that Zodiac was a hoax.

Wyatt and Dashwood's European Union Law

Hart Publishing

First published 30 years ago, Wyatt and Dashwood's European Union Law was a landmark publication, designed and written for students taking degree level courses in EU law. In the intervening years new editions have appeared at regular intervals, firmly establishing the book as a reliable and authoritative text. Besides introducing generations of students to the intricacies of European law it has also been increasingly relied upon by scholars, practitioners and the courts as a valuable source of reference on this complex and ever-expanding body of law. While the book cannot cover every aspect of the subject matter, it nevertheless offers comprehensive coverage of those aspects of EU law most commonly studied at degree level. Part I introduces the history and foundations of the Union's primary law. Part II looks at the Union's institutions, decision-making procedures and competences. It also deals with the Union judiciary, focusing on direct actions before the Union courts and preliminary references from national courts. The constitutional fundamentals of direct effect and supremacy, effective judicial protection before national courts, general principles of Union law and the Charter of Fundamental Rights are dealt with in Part III. Part IV covers the internal market: free movement of goods, Union citizenship, workers, establishment and services, the services directive, mutual recognition of qualifications, corporate establishment and company law harmonisation. Part V deals with competition law: Articles 101 and 102 TFEU, the enforcement of Union competition rules and other related competition law issues. Part VI then includes a brand new chapter concerned with the EU's external relations, together with treatment of the legal effects of international agreements entered into by the EU. As with previous editions the aim is to provide an accurate, critical, pragmatic and original account of the subject, at times also offering unique insiders' insights. The book holds to its reputation as being both broad and profound, the ideal foundation for gaining a deep understanding of EU law. This edition reflects the law post-Lisbon. It has also been re-structured and re-designed, so as to facilitate ease-of-use. Its original authors, Derrick Wyatt and Alan Dashwood, continue to make a significant contribution. Michael Dougan, Eleanor Spaventa and Barry Rodger complete the team of authors working on this invaluable textbook and reference work. The 6th edition has already been cited in the Northern Ireland High Court by The Honourable Mr. Justice Bernard McCloskey [2011] NIQB 61.

Appropriate for a variety of undergraduate courses covering biology and genetics, including Molecular Biology, Microbial Genetics, Genetics (portion on Molecular Genetics), Biochemistry (portion on Molecular Genetics), Advanced Bacteriology or Microbiology. This innovative manual introduces students to all of the basic techniques of modern molecular biology using an integrated series of laboratory exercises that involve the cloning and analysis of the bioluminescence (lux) genes from the marine bacterium Vibrio fischeri. By organizing the exercises as part of a major cloning project, students get the sense of performing a complete cloning project, rather than just learning a collection of procedures. The manual is divided into discrete units with each demonstrating one or more aspects of the cloning project. Collectively, the entire series of exercises requires approximately three quarters to one full semester to complete with two laboratory periods per week. Smaller portions of the manuals are easily adapted to fewer lab periods.
Taxing Profit in a Global Economy

Taxing Profit in a Global Economy

This is an open access title available under the terms of a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence. It is offered as a free PDF download from OUP and selected open access locations. This book undertakes a fundamental review of the existing international system of taxing business profit. It steps back from the current political debates on how to combat profit shifting and how taxing rights over the profits of the digitalized economy should be allocated. Instead, it starts from first principles to ask how we should evaluate a tax on business profit—and whether there is any good rationale for such a tax in the first place. It then goes on to evaluate the existing system and a number of alternatives that have been proposed. It argues that the existing system is fundamentally flawed, and that there is a need for radical reform. The key conclusion from the analysis is that there would be significant gains from a reform that moved the system towards taxing profit in the country in which a business made its sales to third parties. That conclusion informs two proposals that are put forward in detail and evaluated: the Residual Profit Allocation by Income (RPAI) and the Destination-based Cash Flow Tax (DBCFT). The book is authored by group of economists and lawyers—the Oxford International Tax Group, chaired by Michael P. Devereux. It draws insights from both economics and law—including economic theory, empirical evidence on the impact of taxes, and an examination of practical issues of implementation—to assess the existing system and to consider fundamental reforms. This book will be useful to tax policy makers, tax professionals, academics, and anyone interested in tax policy.
