About the Short Stories The Key to the V: When the body of eccentric 75-year-old blues musician Jimmy Freeman, is found in his kitchen, the young woman who placed his rescue dog with him becomes the prime suspect in his murder. Add in a mysterious key, a rare, vintage electric guitar, along with a cast of endearing characters and you have a short story that is a quick read that keeps you in suspense. Using the eclectic backdrop of Toronto's unique neighborhoods, the first story in "The Rescue Dog Mysteries" series, follows a group of misfit dogs who find happiness with a woman who has learned to make her own way in the world. Freeman's Best Friend Dog Rescue: The second story in the "Rescue Dog Mystery" series finds Diane Daniels settling into her new role as the founder and director of Freeman's Best Friend Dog Rescue which she runs alongside her partner Marty Cohen, a recording engineer. On a trip to Ocho Rios, Marty rescues a tiny dog and brings her back to Canada to save her life. The quest to determine the true identity of the little "rescue dog" takes a dangerous turn when an unscrupulous person will stop at nothing to retrieve something hidden in the unlikeliest of places. The Christmas Window: The arrival of an expectant Husky and the discovery of an exquisite artist's rendering of one of the most beloved features of a historic property about to be sold to real estate developers, make the founders of Freeman's Best Friend Dog Rescue shelter determined to identify and locate the artist. With the addition of a feisty eighty-nine year old arts guild president and two young travellers to the established cast of characters, Michele Anne O'Neail's third rescue dog mystery celebrates Christmas in a way that Jimmy Freeman would most certainly approve of.

Winner, 2023 Best Book Award, Italian Association for the History of Economic ThoughtOne of the most original social scientists of the twentieth century, Albert O. Hirschman led an uncommonly dramatic life. After fleeing Nazi Germany as a youth, he fought in the Spanish Civil War, took part in antifascist activities in Italy, and organized an underground rescue operation in Marseille through which more than 2,000 people, including Marc Chagall, Arthur Koestler, and Hannah Arendt, escaped Europe. Hirschman moved across topics, methodologies, and disciplinary boundaries as fluidly as he did among countries and languages. His work is marked by a deep suspicion of all-encompassing theories, valuing instead doubt and a sensitivity to contingencies and unexpected consequences. In this intellectual biography, the economic historian Michele Alacevich explores the development and trajectory of Hirschman’s characteristic approach to social-scientific questions. He traces the many strands of Hirschman’s thought and their place in his multifaceted body of work, considering their limitations as well as their strengths. Alacevich puts Hirschman’s ideas into context, following his participation in the major intellectual and political debates of his times. He examines Hirschman’s pioneering work in development studies and his analyses of social change, the history of capitalism, and the workings of democracy alongside his activities in the postwar reconstruction of Europe and economic development in Latin America. A compelling intellectual portrait of a profoundly distinctive thinker, this book also reflects on Hirschman’s legacy and lasting influence.

R.O.A.R - Rude Opinions Aren't Reality: An Anti-Bullying Guide

Bullying has been and still is a huge problem in our society, particularly with children and youth. Suicide rates by youth who have expressed that they were victims of bullying have skyrocketed over the last decade. The reality is, we may never see a day when all people say positive words instead of negative ones; where people who may be experiencing their own insecurities, lash out on others. So what can be done to tackle this issue and protect our youth? R.O.A.R is geared towards victims of bullying and is a guide on how parents can address the issues with bullying. The basis of this book is to teach children and youth self-esteem and confidence by stressing that other people's opinions are not a their reality. While words can hurt, believing them can cause serious and irreversible emotional damage. R.O.A.R not only focuses on self-esteem and confidence, but provides children and youth ways to counter bullying using non-violent tactics and resources around them. My goal is to provide parents with no-nonsense tactics to collaborate with schools to put and end to bullying behavior. The F.A.A.B. Foundation also provides valuable services to parents who feel as though they are at their wits ends. Although we may not be able to stop bullying altogether, we can begin ensuring that our youth has positive self-images and the tools needed to combat and end their own personal ordeals with bullying.
