As the pressure rises and the exodus through the ring gates continues, opportunities abound for shrewd crews willing to take risks on Earth, Mars, and in The Belt. The changes brought about by the discovery of the protomolecule continue to disrupt the status quo, and tensions between the factions are white hot. Sol System provides information on the governments, corporations, and factions that vie for power and influence, along with expanded rules for trade and running corporations and other organizations. This beautifully illustrated sourcebook opens new ways to play and exciting new details on humanity’s homes. Sol System also offers a plethora of new adventure opportunities—political intrigue, spies, strange cults!—and sets the stage for the Free Navy Conflict sourcebook.

Alpha Centauri is a trinary star system that supports one planet in each star's solar system harboring intelligent lifeforms. The denizens of each planet are unique as are their problems and the opportunities they encounter. Snatraps live harshly on Sna that orbits Soileth, or Centauri Proxima; Zutans, whose doomed home is Zut, must engineer an expulsion of their planet from the gravity well of their star, Zu, or Alpha Centauri B; and Harmonians who live on Harmony in perfect harmony orbiting the magnificent blue light star that is slightly larger but considerably brighter than Sol, Alpha Centauri A, are ecstatic. The situation on Earth is as desperate as on Sna and Zut but suffers the distinction of being self-inflicted through the destruction of a human friendly environment and runaway overpopulation. Two entities, introduced in 'Morning on Delos' in human form, Pallas and Zannis, are now ethereal consciousnesses belonging to the level of Shepherds. They desire to assist first the Snatraps and then the Zutans with solutions to their specific problems, and they offer as well to guide humanity through their avatars on Earth, Judith and Philip.

This book discusses the synthesis of catalytic materials with improved and tailored functionalities via the sol-gel method. Beginning with a general outline of traditional sol-gel chemistry, the book gradually explores surrounding topics, such as the formation of porous structures, while guiding the overall discussion toward the synthesis of heterogeneous catalysts and focusing throughout on the structure-activity relationship in catalytic materials. Featuring several case studies covering major current industrial applications, the book is an ideal guide for researchers looking to tailor catalytic materials for a specific catalytic process and thus exploiting the versatility of the “traditional” sol-gel method.
Sol-Gel Chemistry Applied to Materials Science
Sol-gel technology is a contemporary advancement in science that requires taking a multidisciplinary approach with regard to its various applications. This book highlights some applications of the sol-gel technology, including protective coatings, catalysts, piezoelectric devices, wave guides, lenses, high-strength ceramics, superconductors, synthesis of nanoparticles, and insulating materials. In particular, for biotechnological applications, biomolecules or the incorporation of bioactive substances into the sol-gel matrix has been extensively studied and has been a challenge for many researchers. Some sol-gel materials are widely applied in light-emitting diodes, solar cells, sensing, catalysis, integration in photovoltaic devices, and more recently in biosensing, bioimaging, or medical diagnosis; others can be considered excellent drug delivery systems. The goal of an ideal drug delivery system is the prompt delivery of a therapeutic amount of the drug to the proper site in the body, where the desired drug concentration can be maintained. The interactions between drugs and the sol-gel system can affect the release rate. In conclusion, the sol-gel synthesis method offers mixing at the molecular level and is able to improve the chemical homogeneity of the resulting composite. This opens new doors not only regarding compositions of previously unattainable materials, but also to unique structures with different applications.
Sol-gel Based Nanoceramic Materials: Preparation, Properties and Applications
This book summarizes recent research and development in the field of nanostructured ceramics and their composites. It presents selected examples of ceramic materials with special electronic, catalytic and optical properties and exceptional mechanical characteristics. A special focus is on sol-gel based and organic-inorganic hybrid nanoceramic materials. The book highlights examples for preparation techniques including scale-up, properties of smart ceramic composites, and applications including e.g. waste water treatment, heavy metal removal, sensors, electronic devices and fuel cells. Recent challenges are addressed and potential solutions are suggested for these. This book hence addresses chemists, materials scientists, and engineers, working with nanoceramic materials and on their applications.
Sol-Gel Materials for Energy, Environment and Electronic Applications
This volume provides expert coverage of the state-of-the-art in sol-gel materials for functional applications in energy, environment and electronics. The use of sol-gel technology has become a hotbed for cutting edge developments in many fields due to the accessibility of advanced materials through low energy processes. The book offers a broad view of this growing research area from basic science through high-level applications with the potential for commercialization and industrial use. Taking an integrated approach, expert chapters present a wide range of topics, from photocatalysts, solar cells and optics, to thin films and materials for energy storage and conversion, demonstrating the combined use of chemistry, physics, materials science and engineering in the search for solutions to some of the most challenging problems of our time.
