Grounded in current knowledge about bipolar disorder and its treatment, this book presents an empirically supported therapy program with step-by-step guidelines for implementation. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) for bipolar disorder is specifically designed for clients who have experienced many mood episodes and who struggle with chronic, pervasive depressive and residual manic symptoms. The authors provide everything needed to conduct the 12 weekly group sessions, which are supplemented by regular individual sessions. Reproducible tools include 29 client handouts and an Instructor Checklist. Purchasers get access to a companion website featuring downloadable audio recordings of the guided mindfulness practices (meditations and mindful movement), plus the reproducible materials, ready to download and print in a convenient 8 1/2 x 11 size. A separate website for use by clients features the audio recordings only.
International Environmental Law

International Environmental Law

Thilo Marauhn; Ulrich Beyerlin

Beck/Hart Publishing

International Environmental Law is a new textbook written for students, practitioners, and anyone interested in the subject. The overall aim of the book is to provide a fresh understanding of international environmental law as a whole, seen in the light of climate change, biodiversity loss, and the other serious environmental challenges facing the world. The book has also been kept deliberately manageable in size by careful selection of topics and by adopting a cross-cutting synthesis of regulatory interaction in the field. This enables the reader to place international environmental law in the broader context of public international law in general, revealing at the same time that international environmental law is experimental ground for developing new legal approaches towards global governance. To this end, the authors have combined theory and practice.Apart from discussing concepts, rule-making and compliance, the book looks at options for improved coordination, harmonisation and even integration of existing multilateral environmental agreements, analysing how conflicts between various environmental regimes can be avoided or, at least, adequately managed. The authors argue that an appropriate management of international environmental relations must address the North-South divide, which continues to be a major obstacle to global environmental cooperation. Furthermore, the authors emphasise the growing human rights dimension of international environmental law. This book is an ideal 'door opener' for the further study of international environmental law. Focusing on 'international environmental governance' in a comprehensive way, it serves to explain that each institution, each actor, and each instrument is part of a multi-dimensional process in international environmental law and relations.
European Republicanism

European Republicanism

This book presents current theories of European integration, such as federalism, neo-functionalism and liberal intergovernmentalism with their strengths and weaknesses. It is then argued that the combination of republican theory with public good theory, the res publica of public goods, could better explain European integration. Public good theory has, however, to be adopted in order to make it applicable to European republicanism. Finally, the book demonstrates how this new framework can influence further academic debates, such as on sovereignty and monetary integration, externalities of a common European market and the driving force of European integration. It is maintained that as the republican approach does not follow a pure economic logic, there remains space for political considerations and motivations. In this topical and interdisciplinary book, the author combines many important strings of European integration theory, history, economics and political sciences, which are clearly brought together into a coherent analytical discourse. Its strength is the interdisciplinary interaction between politics and economics, as well as theoretical and practical issues which are of high relevance for public debate in Europe. This book will be of interest to scholars and students interested in economic integration, as well as history and political philosophy.

Designing a Bottom-up Operations Strategy

Designing a Bottom-up Operations Strategy

Thilo R. Scholz; Arnd Huchzermeier; Torsten A. Kühlmann

Springer Nature Switzerland AG

This book focuses on top-down and bottom-up antecedents for employee engagement. It combines Operations Management (OM) with elements from Human Resource Management (HRM) and Organizational Behavior (OB) to answer the overarching question: “How is operations strategy formation influenced by the individual employee?” Dedicated chapters investigate key research questions, closing the integration gap between OM and HRM/OB. The book develops and statistically analyzes an operations strategy opportunity-motivation-ability framework. In addition, it examines how basic need fulfillment and organizational fairness relate to job satisfaction and performance. By doing so, the book helps readers to better understand employees’ preferences and enables operations managers to foster strategy-supportive behavior and job satisfaction more effectively in their workforces.
Simulating Conversations for the Prediction of Speech Quality

Simulating Conversations for the Prediction of Speech Quality

Thilo Michael

Springer International Publishing AG

This book discusses the simulation of conversations through a novel approach of predicting speech quality based on the interactions of two simulated interlocutors. The author describes the setup of a simulation environment that is capable of simulating human dialogue on the speech level. The impact of delay and bursty packet loss on VoIP conversations is investigated and modeled for the use in the simulation. Based on parameters extracted from simulated conversations, the author proposes extensions to the E-model, a parametric model standardized by the International Telecommunications Union, in order to predict the quality of the simulated conversations. The author shows that predictions based on the simulated conversations outperform models that rely on the transmission parameters alone.

The author deals with the origin of Ezekiel 40?48 within the literary genesis of the book of Ezekiel. For the first time these chapters are not viewed in isolation, but rather as a genuine final vision which, together with the various redactions of the book of Ezekiel, continued to grow. In addition to thorough literary study of Ezekiel 40?48, this monograph offers a contribution to the illumination of Israelite sociology of religion in the post-exilic period, for example in regard to the role of the descendants of Jehoiachin s exile or the Second Temple controversies in the theology of the cult."
