James, aka Jimmy Mattock the second, had no idea where he was. He had awakened earlier when a clock chimed and found himself in a foul mood. His head felt as if soiled towels had been stuffed into his nose and pulled out through his mouth, by way of his brain. He had trouble opening his eyes due to the stickiness gluing them together. His mouth tasted like rotten cabbage with a side of fish head thrown in for good measure. His chest burned like a gasoline fire had ignited down his throat. In general, he felt like shit. He wondered why he was laying on the floor. He was drifting in and out of consciousness, and he thought his mind must be playing tricks with his body because it was difficult to tell what was what.He tried to methodically catalog his body parts. He felt his left hand, because he was lying on it and it hurt with a stinging pain. He knew he had a head because it was pounding so severely. He felt both legs, and then he sensed the rest of his body because it all hurt very badly.

My Kidney Lives: Dark, Darker & Light: Celebrating Life with Kidney Disease
Kidney disease chose me and I chose to fight, beat and ultimately celebrate my life with kidney disease. Since the age of eight years old, I have been living with kidney disease. My kidneys have been a source of motivation, inspiration, desperation and have controlled parts of my life. This is my personal story through poems and anecdotes how I endured kidney disease to live a grateful and blessed life. It is about my struggles and of course, happy times. It is about different chapters in my life that created who I am, but also shows who I was before and after my transplant. I was inspired to write about stages of my life to celebrate my life of living, breathing, and existing on this planet. I recounted my moments of darkness and light through poems and anecdotes. In this book, I share my joys and pains growing up with kidney disease, about being bullied and being told I was not good enough for college. My hardships and failures culminated into the grateful life I am living today.
The Darkest Hour: Shedding Light on the Impact of Isolation and Death Row in Texas Prisons
"... this book will inspire you to view all people through the lens of empathy and compassion ..." book foreword by Susan Sarandon "The Darkest Hour: Shedding Light on the Impact of Isolation and Death Row in Texas Prisons" by Dr. Betty Gilmore and Nanon M. Williams sheds light on the widespread impact of extreme isolation experienced by thousands of incarcerated individuals in Texas prisons - many of whom will be integrated back into society. This book presents an in-depth view of the Texas prison system with a specific focus on death row and solitary confinement. The impact of living in severely restrictive conditions is examined through a multi-disciplinary lens that incorporates scientific research and expert opinion and includes powerful narratives from men who have been incarcerated for 10 or more years and the people that surround them. Factors such as childhood history, attachment, biology, poverty, race and other social influences are explored in relation to the events that led up to incarceration and the subsequent ability to obtain fair treatment throughout the legal process. In-depth stories of trauma, survival and growth guides readers through the experiences of these men, and the efforts made to preserve their own dignity in the face of adversity.

What if at the end of Judge Dredd: Judgement Day a different strategy was used in order to stop the zombie invasion? Instead of Judge Dredd executing Sabbat the Necromagus this plan involves dropping dimension-bombs to shift the whole zombie horde into a different reality. This means disaster for all the other characters published in the pages of 2000 AD as the zombies infect everyone from Rogue Trooper to Sinister Dexter, from Ace Trucking to The V.C.'s. There is now a whole multiverse of zombies that need killing, and only a few heroes left to take care of business!

1066 is the most famous date in English history. On 14 October, on Senlac Hill near Hastings, a battle was fought that would change the face of England forever. Over the next twenty years, Norman culture was imposed on England, and English politics and society were radically reshaped. But how much is really known about William 'the Conqueror', the Norman duke who led his men to victory on that autumn Saturday in what was to be the last successful invasion of England? Mark Hagger here takes a fresh look at William - his life and leadership. As king, he spent much of his reign threatened by rebellion and invasion. In response, he ordered castles and strongholds to be built across the land - a symbol of the force with which he defended his realm and which, along with Domesday Book, England's first public record, attest to a powerful legacy. This book provides a rounded portrait of one of England's greatest rulers.
