The UK population has been ravaged. Nate must support his family, and Ruby is looking for somewhere to call home. And then tragedy strikes upon tragedy."The ground was a carpet of flesh and bones; thirty - or even twenty - feet away, it became almost impossible to distinguish body from body, body part from body part. Death's great road roller had been this way and slain everything in its path. Yet there were shimmers of movement, hands that answered classroom questions and arms that swam against a tide of innards where coils of intestines held them back. Faces without jaws; half-faces, eyeless faces, skinless faces; faces a mother would no longer recognise. Jagged and sharp were the protruding cheekbones and half-hanging bridges of noses. The mass was whole. It squirmed with life - the longer they looked, the sicker they felt. And yet it was impossible not to stare in awe; this beach of flesh that represented the humanity of now: nurses and doctors, labourers and homeless, the aged and the young; all just threads in this tapestry."

Swahili in One Week is easily accessible to those who struggle to learn languages or doubt their ability to do so. This book sets you on the path to fluency by teaching you the fundamentals of Swahili, which you can use as a base for future learning. The book is divided into seven days worth of subjects and practice exercises and includes Swahili-English and English-Swahili dictionaries. Many language textbooks are full of unnecessary information and simply list words and phrases to be memorized in a misguided attempt to build fluency. How is this book different? You will: A. Learn only the most essential vocabulary or dig deeper into subjects like local food and customs;B. Make learning a language the fun it should be;C. Save time by using the included study plan;D. Ability to have brief exchanges after just one day;E. Communicate in the language in basically any daily situation after one week; andF. Impress Swahili speaking friends with your quick progress in the language. The goal of this book is to give the reader-having no prior knowledge of Swahili-the ability to manage basic exchanges and, more importantly, an understanding of the language upon which they can quickly build to become a proficient speaker. This is why literal translations are used, by knowing "habari yako" means "news your" instead of "how are you," which is the non-literal translation, the language learner adds two unique words plus the phrase to their vocabulary.Compare this to the traditional language learning methodThe ineffective traditional method guarantees you will: A. Waste your time learning the wrong words;B. Have difficulty retaining words because you do not use them in conversation; C. Struggle to conjugate verbs and build sentences; D. Fail to understand the cultural context in which to use vocabulary; andE. Become frustrated and want to quitAll proceeds from this book will go to Tanzanian charities House of Blue Hope and AVC Tanzania.

Irenaeus, Joseph Smith, and God-Making Heresy

Irenaeus, Joseph Smith, and God-Making Heresy seeks both to demonstrate the salience of “heresy” as a tool for analyzing instances of religious conflict far beyond the borders of traditional historical theology and to illuminate the apparent affinity for deification exhibited by some persecuted religious movements. To these ends, the book argues for a sociologically-informed redefinition of heresy as religiously-motivated opposition and applies the resulting concept to the historical cases of second-century Christians and nineteenth-century Mormons. Ultimately, Irenaeus, Joseph Smith, and God-Making Heresy is a careful application of the comparative method to two new religious movements, highlighting the social processes at work in their early doctrinal developments.

Synoptic Composition

Synoptic Composition

The fascination with literary dependency in the most popular approaches to the synoptic problem has been built upon a faulty presupposition: that oral tradition is incapable of producing the word for word verbal agreement found in the synoptic accounts. Recent research in the area of oral tradition has shown that this is not the case, but we still rely on increasingly complicated literary models to explain the relationships between the Synoptic Gospels. This book engages in comparative analysis of Old Greek quotations found in more than one of the Synoptic Gospels, along with the material that surrounds these quotations. The resulting conclusions indicate that oral sources may better explain the similarities and differences found in the Synoptic Gospels, and that we ought to reexamine our foundational presuppositions in order to craft a better model for understanding the origins of the Synoptic Gospels. The hope is that the reader will join the author in seeking to better understand these books that include the climax of the greatest story of all time: the true story of people marred by sin, and their creator who seeks after them as he redeems all things to himself.

Live a life filled with joy and try to consciously consider how to bring joy to the lives of those around you as well. - Haydn Robarts Nineteen is a book of nineteen lessons learned from Haydn Robarts, whose short life profoundly changed all around him. Written by his father, it combines a personal memoir, universal lessons, insights from religion and science, and perspectives from Haydn and his parents. The result is a work that ultimately inspires an awareness, an awakening, and a mindset toward living this precious life with purpose and clarity. Haydn was a remarkable young man whose dignified response to his own suffering provides essential wisdom and hopeful possibilities for your own life. The philosopher is not influenced by praise or blame. He knows the truth and is not afraid, regardless of what happens to him in this world. --Tao Te Ching, LXVII In December 2018, during a family vacation in Canada, Adam was asked what he would choose to be if he were not an architect. He replied without hesitation, "A hospice nurse." Five years earlier, he had a profound experience accompanying his father through the final weeks of life before he died of cancer in Uganda. Adam could not have imagined then that nine months later he would begin to accompany his nineteen-year-old son, Haydn, through a battle with a rare brain cancer. Haydn graduated from this physical world in May 2020, one week before his twentieth birthday. Nineteen, Adam's first book, shares the beautiful and poignant lessons learned on his family's journey with Haydn.
