Facsimile of 1944 Edition. The Ashley Book of Knots is an encyclopedia of knots written and illustrated by the American artist Clifford W. Ashley. First published in 1944, it was the culmination of over 11 years of work. The book contains exactly 3854 numbered entries and an estimated 7000 illustrations. The entries include knot instructions, uses, and some histories, categorized by type or function. It remains one of the most important and comprehensive books on knots. Due to its scope and wide availability, The Ashley Book of Knots has become a significant reference work in the field of knotting. The numbers Ashley assigned to each knot can be used to unambiguously identify them. This helps to identify knots despite local colloquialisms or identification changes. Citations to Ashley numbers are usually in the form: "The Constrictor Knot (ABOK #1249)", "ABOK #1249" or even simply "#1249" if the context of the reference is clear or already established. Some knots have more than one Ashley number due to having multiple uses or forms. For example, the main entry for #1249 is in the chapter on binding knots but it is also listed as #176 in a chapter on occupational knot usage. Contents: On knots -- Occupational knots -- Knob knots, single-strand stopper or terminal knots -- Knob knots, single-strand lanyard knots -- Knob knots, single-strand button knots -- Knob knots, multi-strand stopper or terminal knots -- Knob knots, two-strand lanyard knots -- Knob knots, multi-strand buttons, tied in hand -- Knob knots, multi-strand buttons, tied on the table -- Single-loop knots -- Double- and multiple-loop knots -- The noose -- Knots tied in the bright -- Clove hitch and other crossing knots -- Binding knots -- The turk's head -- Bends -- Shroud knots (multi-strand bends) -- Belaying and making fast -- Hitches to spar and rail (right-angle pull) -- Hitches to masts, rigging, and cable (lengthwise pull) -- Hitches to stake and post, pile and bollard -- Ring hitches -- Hooks, beckets, and toggles -- Miscellaneous holdfasts -- Occasional knots -- Lashings and slings -- The monkey's fist and other knot converings -- Flat or two-dimensional knots -- Fancy knots -- Square knotting -- Tricks and puzzles -- Long and short splices (multi-strand bends) -- Eye splices (multi-strand loops) -- Odd splices -- Chain and crown sinnets -- Plat sinnets -- Solid sinnets -- Practical marlingspike seamanship -- Decorative marlinspike seamanship (applied knots).

High school sweethearts, Brian and Ashley had moved to the big city shortly after getting married in search of better jobs. But after two years in the city, not only are they still struggling to make ends meet but their sex life has gone from somewhat satisfying to downright dull and uninspiring. Now, looming changes at Brian's job are threatening to put their apartment in jeopardy if they don't get a roommate soon. Fortunately, a chance phone call from Brian's old friend in high school seems to present them with just the break they need. Ashley had never approved of Brian's friend. Sure, Trey was good looking; a black Adonis in fact, but he was also a "Player." As the clear leader of Brian's pack of friends in high school, she could never understand why Brian seemed to look up to Trey so much. Conceited and overbearing, Trey seemed completely opposite of everything she loved so much about Brian. Still, maybe Trey had changed since high school. And they really could use a roommate right now to help pay the bills. Brian and Ashley have no idea that their new roommate, the ever domineering Trey, is about to take over much more than just their bills... As Ashley begins to experiences an extraordinary sexual awakening within, Brian finds himself struggling with an uncontrollable desire to see Ashley being "taken" by Trey in a way that only a powerful alpha-male like Trey can. If they bend to Trey's will, how far down this road will Trey take them? And will they be able to stop before going too far?

The Diaries of Anthony Ashley-Cooper, the Seventh Earl of Shaftesbury
Lord Ashley (later the 7th Earl of Shaftesbury), the 'Poor Man's Earl', is widely remembered as a leading aristocratic philanthropist whose concern for suffering and the oppressed victims of Victorian 'progress' saw him champion a range of social, industrial, educational, and health reforms. A deeply religious individual, his evangelicalism and sense of philanthropy as 'duty' make these extraordinarily rich and candid diaries a vital resource for understanding the motivations of a prominent philanthropist and Victorian social reformer. The Diaries of Anthony Ashley-Cooper, the Seventh Earl of Shaftesbury contain detailed accounts of his labours, religious and philosophical reflections, self analysis, and descriptions and criticisms of contemporaries, and offer thereby a fascinating insight into Victorian politics and social change. The full run of the diaries span the period 1825-85. This first volume, covering 1825-45, shows the emergence of Ashley as a passionate evangelical reformer and determined advocate for a range of domestic and international issues and causes. Ashley is seen maturing as a private and public figure, courting and marrying Lady Emily (Minny) Cowper and starting a family while searching for a role and purpose, reading, touring (Europe in 1833-4, and Britain in 1839), and studying, while also taking the first steps in his parliamentary career. Ministerial office did not last long but Ashley soon became a key figure in Tory political circles, working closely with figures such as Peel and Wellington, and establishing his own position on questions of social and industrial reform.

In Volume 1, Part Two (covering 1843-5), the questions and issues that would dominate his public work for years to come and which he had begun to address in the period covered in Part One feature more prominently. His discussion of important topics – such as religious questions (including here the intense debates over Tractarianism); industrial working conditions, especially for children; and the work of the lunacy commission – show how he had by this point found his voice and become established as a key actor in those fields. Part Two also includes a narrative of a further European tour (in 1843). The volume closes with a political journal for 1834-42, detailing Ashley's role in, and view of, the turbulent parliamentary history of the period.
