Crossing That Line: The Psychology of Poor People

In my pursuit of a more meaningful life, I've noticed how our internal differences are ignored by most self-help gurus and spiritual leaders. Their methods and teachings don't usually work for the majority of people because they don't consider how wide the psychological gap is between them and their followers. I didn't have to read a book about how poor people think. I grew up poor and I know that mindset first-hand. When we understand the psychology of poor people, it's easy to see why sharing information about wealth isn't enough to penetrate the soul of a poverty-stricken mind. Telling a person to think and grow rich before they even know they have the authority to think at all, is useless. If the mindset of poor people is better understood then how to help them would be more constructive. The purpose of this book is to take a closer look at the mindset of poor people, from my perspective. This book is for those who really want to help the poor, for those who may be poor and not know it, and also for people who want to resist and overcome the psychological effects of poverty.

Have you ever seen a ghost? Now you can see them in the comfort of your own home. In 1864, when J. H. Brown's Spectropia was first published, beliefs in spirits were reaching a high point. Mediums across the country were selling the idea of communication with the afterlife. And people were buying it. With the Civil War raging, death was plaguing America and grieving families were willing to cling to any hope of reconnecting with lost loved ones.As s ances conjured up spirits through rappings on walls, levitating tables, mysterious images in photographs, and other fantastic appearances, Brown decided to do something about it. He had had enough of "the absurd follies of spiritualism." As Brown notes in the pages of this book, "All the senses are more or less subject to deception, but the eye is pre-eminently so." With the sixteen color plates in Spectropia, he created a way for anyone to see ghosts through nothing more than science.Follow Brown's simple instructions and the spectres within these pages will take shape in your newly haunted house. Only for a short time though, after which they will vanish beyond the veil. This new edition republishes the original text and illustrations in FULL COLOR, and includes a foreword by author and founder of WeirdHistorian.com, Marc Hartzman. ABCnews.com has called him "one of America's leading connoisseurs of the bizarre."

It's all about doing and acting instead of knowing how to do and act. It's about changing constantly and surviving. When everybody looks at the ball, you need to look where the ball could be going. It's not about thinking inside the box or thinking outside the box or thinking there is no box. If there's nothing, you can start to think from zero.Aristotle said, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." You must embrace change by acting in the face of it. You must define your experiences in the moment they happen and with purposeful action. You must take your knowledge and use it, for knowledge is power and power used repeatedly leads to exponential growth.
The World Health Organization

According to its Constitution, the mission of the World Health Organization (WHO) was nothing less than the 'attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health' without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic status, or social condition. But how consistently and how well has the WHO pursued this mission since 1946? This comprehensive and engaging new history explores these questions by looking at its origins and its institutional antecedents, while also considering its contemporary and future roles. It examines how the WHO was shaped by the particular environments of the postwar period and the Cold War, the relative influence of the US and other approaches to healthcare, and its place alongside sometimes competing international bodies such as UNICEF, the World Bank, and the Gates Foundation. The authors re-evaluate the relative success and failure of critical WHO campaigns, from early malaria and smallpox eradication programs to struggles with Ebola today.
