The fourteen pieces herein are those sundry writings I have created sandwiched between some forty years of writing novels, penning assessment reports, editing the works of other authors, and trying in general to live as fully and as wisely as possible. Carry On is a collection of fourteen pieces of miscellaneous writings I have created over some forty years. All the works are fanciful, some more than others, and all were written with an eye toward helping me put the world into an understandable perspective. One of my favorite authors is Nobel Laureate Orham Pamuk. When asked once why he writes, he said it is because he needs to construct alternate worlds in order to understand this one. It is the same for me, even though at times it also seems like an affliction, particularly when I am lost in the labyrinth of a novel, wherein understanding comes only after much ado, time, and butting my head against walls have passed in a twilight realm of obfuscation and bewilderment. Be that as it may, it is my sincere hope that these short works of fiction and epistemological conjecture will entertain and perhaps encourage new perspectives in those who read them.

A thoroughly enjoyable fact-filled romp… a must-read for any fan of the Carry On films." - Daily Mail "We knew the Carry On films without really knowing them. Caroline Frost puts that right. A fascinating story." - Adrian Chiles "Essential reading for fans of the Carry On Films which were deceptively ahead of their times' - Tracy-Ann Oberman The completely updated, definitive history of Carry On, Britain’s largest film franchise, includes exclusive interviews and personal memories from this unique filmmaking era. It follows the series from the gentle capers of the 1950s, through the glorious golden age of the 1960s, to the creative challenges of later years. Take a happy walk down memory lane to enjoy Sid James's conspiratorial chuckle, Kenneth Williams' elongated vowels, Charles Hawtrey's bespectacled bashfulness and Barbara Windsor's naughty wiggle, as writer Caroline Frost explores the different ingredients behind their huge appeal. Frost sheds new light on just how much talent and hard work went into creating the laughs - and she examines the real-life struggles of the stars who found solace in their tight companionship at Pinewood Studios. Was Carry On really as sexist, racist and bigoted as critics claim? Frost takes a fresh look at some of the series' biggest titles and argues that, in reality, they were far more progressive than their detractors would have you believe. Finally, with constant speculation about a brand new era of Carry On, Frost asks - does this ever-popular series still have legs?

Elise, a young woman with a mysteriously ill son, returns to her childhood home years after running away with a lover. Now destitute, she begins to search for an object hidden somewhere in the house, which has been in a state of disrepair since her mother's untimely death. Her father, who fled political terror in in his youth, is frail and often dreaming. So it falls to Elise's older sister, who has never left home, to maintain family order. Unraveled by alcohol and her own longing for escape, "Aunt," as Elise's sister is simply known, is further disturbed by the child's illness and his mother's irresponsibility. To placate the child, she turns to the bedtime tale of the Three Little Pigs, which becomes increasingly corrupted with each telling. As Aunt struggles to take care of the child, she recalls -- with a mixture of jealousy and resentment -- the day her sister left home. Meanwhile, Elise continues her search, with consequences that will alter Aunt's life irrevocably.A writer of "obvious and extreme talent" (Los Angeles Times), Raffel uses starkly beautiful, stunningly precise language to etch this compelling portrait of a family torn apart by longing, miscommunication, and misdirected love. Meticulously crafted and utterly absorbing, Carrying The Body is ultimately about the inescapable emotional legacies passed from generation to generation, and our dreams of refuge and release.

First published in 1925, "Carry On, Jeeves" is P. G. Wodehouse's third collection of Jeeves and Bertie Wooster stories. All of the stories included in this volume first appeared in periodicals like the "Saturday Evening Post" including some that are reworked versions of stories that appeared in the 1919 collection "My Man Jeeves". In this volume, readers will find some of Wodehouse's most famous tales of the hapless and wealthy Bertie, his equally clueless friends, and his wise and pragmatic valet, Jeeves. The first story in the book, "Jeeves Takes Charge", introduces Jeeves to Bertie's life when he replaces his previous valet, who had been stealing from him. Many of the stories take place in New York and familiar characters, such as Aunt Dahlia, Bingo Little, Anatole, and Sir Roderick Glossop, make appearances in this collection. Wodehouse's tales are engaging, clever, laugh-out-loud funny, and enjoyably English in their sensibilities and dialogue. Jeeves, with his complicated plans and ability to solve seemingly any problem, is at his plucky best in this classic collection of Wodehouse stories. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.

The collection of short essays in Carry Me Home begins as a lament for what in September 2005 looked to be the lost city of New Orleans. Over the following two-and-one-half years, these brief essays become a lyrical celebration of the city and the people, and a journal of a 20-year expatriate's decision to move home after the flood. Mark Folse is a former journalist who, after a twenty-year remove first to Washington, D.C. and later to the upper Midwest, returned with his family to the city of his birth. He currently resides in the Mid-City neighborhood of New Orleans with his wife Rebecca, and their two children Killian and Matthew. He continues to chronicle his life in the city of New Orleans at his weblog Toulouse Street -- Odd Bits of Life in New Orleans (www.toulousestreet.net)
