This book details how bias affects the brain, perception and decision-making--and identifies how these factors affect the field of dance. It applies social psychology to the events, communities, and teaching strategies in dance classrooms of all sizes and age ranges. Using critical theory as a framework, chapters define implicit biases and explore the power dynamics on and off the dance floor. Various examples of bias in dance education are examined in detail, as are the ramifications of prejudice and inequity. The book sets out the mechanisms that both exacerbate and disrupt the effects of biases, ultimately exploring practiced solutions for addressing bias in the dance classroom. It is intended to inspire dance students, teachers, administrators and arts stakeholders to begin new conversations that will allow dance classrooms to become more welcoming, inclusive spaces.

Simply Poetry "Season Of Life" "Metaphorically" represents the four weather seasons as they relate to the different seasons in our lives. Winter is cold and dark, represented in our lives as: sickness, death, cold relationships, financial hard times, etc. Spring represents the beginning of new growth in our lives, re-energized, rejuvenation, etc. Summer represents the new growth of Spring coming into full bloom; it's the season in our lives when all is well. Fall represents detachment, and preparation for the revisit of Winter: relationships begin the process of falling apart, we start robbing from this, in order to pay that, the first sign of illness is revealed, if it isn't one thing, it's another, etc. In addition to the poetry this book is saturated with Bible Scriptures, and insightful quotes that will help remind us to be grateful, content, and to stand firm in our faith within which ever season we're in. Because within our lives, like it or not, ready or not "Good, or Bad" just like the weather "this too will pass". Crystal A. Davis

From the foreword:"In Perfect Black, Crystal Wilkinson walks us back down the road she first walked as a girl, wanders us through the trees that lined the road where she grew up, where her sensibilities as a woman and a writer were first laid bare. In one of the first poems that opens the collection she is a woman looking back on her life, on the soil and mountains that first stamped the particular sound of her voice and she is deeply inquisitive about how it all fell into place: "The map of me can't be all hills& mountains even though I've been country all my life. The twang in my voice has moved downhill to the flat land a time or two."Perfect Black is a book of poems and legends about ancestry, culture, and the terrain of a Black girl becoming. It is a narrow and spacious terrain that enters the bloodstream of this black writing girl's body early. It is a country that she never truly exits even though different zip codes continue to fly through her wild, wondrous, winding life. We read and we hold on too.

Palliative Practices

Palliative Practices

The first book of its kind, this must-have resource examines the integration of palliative interventions from a disease-specific approach, providing practical guidance on caring for patients who follow a progressive, chronic disease trajectory prior to death. This uniquely practical book addresses all aspects of palliative care, going beyond theoretical information to advise practitioners on the most effective management of common symptoms and providing physical, psychological, and spiritual comfort to patients and families. The multidisciplinary focus of care is reflected by collaborative contributors and diverse authorship of an oncology/palliative care nurse practitioner, a physician, and a social worker. Expert authors in the field of palliative care - an oncology/palliative care nurse practitioner, an MD, and a social worker - represent the collaborative nature of caring for chronically ill patients. The most common illnesses that cause death in the United States are addressed in separate chapters on specific disease states: Cardiovascular, Pulmonary, Nephrology, Oncology, and Neurology. Case studies at the conclusion of each chapter illustrate important patient scenarios in the context of clinical practice. Comprehensive drug information for symptom management and comfort measures is provided in an appendix, as well as palliative care assessment tools and helpful website resources. An entire chapter is devoted to cancer pain. Objectives at the beginning of each chapter introduce the reader to concepts that will be addressed in that chapter. Each chapter ends with multiple-choice objective questions to test the reader's comprehension, with answers and rationales provided in the back of book. Prognostic tables demonstrate precisely how and when to integrate palliative interventions into the course of an advanced illness, identifying prognostic indicators where appropriate. Other important topics are covered with chapters on sleep, ethics, cultural and spiritual issues, and the dying process.

The story of King David, his childhood, his battle with the Philistines, his women, and the tragedy of his son Absalom, is full of excitement, but yet is only a part of his life. His relationship with the Lord God was the key thing, and he danced before the Lord. He was also the first King of Israel, and our story starts at the time when Jerusalem was conquered by Babylon, and its people taken away into captivity. They started to look back at the foundation myths of their history, and the story of David and Solomon, when the kingdom was at the height of its glory, seemed to be just the story to tell. So that is how the collection of stories of David came to be compiled into the books we can read today.

A reexamination of the biblical David, legendary warrior, poet, and king, by one of America’s most respected rabbis Of all the figures in the Bible, David arguably stands out as the most perplexing and enigmatic. He was many things: a warrior who subdued Goliath and the Philistines; a king who united a nation; a poet who created beautiful, sensitive verse; a loyal servant of God who proposed the great Temple and founded the Messianic line; a schemer, deceiver, and adulterer who freely indulged his very human appetites. David Wolpe, whom Newsweek called “the most influential rabbi in America,” takes a fresh look at biblical David in an attempt to find coherence in his seemingly contradictory actions and impulses. The author questions why David holds such an exalted place in history and legend, and then proceeds to unravel his complex character based on information found in the book of Samuel and later literature. What emerges is a fascinating portrait of an exceptional human being who, despite his many flaws, was truly beloved by God.
